2016 // BAY OF FIRES [ ii ] WINTER ARTS FESTIVAL
For those of us who may not be so “right brain”
inclined, the festival aims to inspire and give
insight into the inner creative workings of the
artistic mind by allowing patrons to get up
close and personal with artists through various
workshops and the popular studio trail.
Now in its fourth year, this event has continued
to grow in appeal and stature, and attracts
artists and artisans from across the state.
Catering for every artistic penchant, desire and
age group, you will certainly need the full four
days to ensure you get the full Bay Of Fires
Winter Arts Festival experience.
Designed to celebrate the arts in all forms,
the festival encompasses just about anything
you can imagine from blacksmithing and glass
blowing to sculpture and painting.

2016 BAY OF FIRES
“Artizano” presents the best of the best in local art and artisanship at
select special events. Twelve artisans are making this very special trip
to the East Coast and all their beautiful works will be on display at the
Trade Training Centre located in Groom St. (SEE OUR MAP).
Among the artisans you’ll discover creative pieces of fused and
slumped glass from premier glass and metal artisan, Lisa South.

Annie Desantis produces fine silver jewellery from recycled materials.
Ask her about pieces that “used to be a hot water cylinder”! Julie
Irvin is a Collograph print maker with her work inspired by the natural
world. LandR Artistree is the creative output by Lesley Collins and
Raymond Hill. Both artisans work with wood in two very different
styles that side by side displays just what can be done with timber.
Have you ever heard of Pyrographic Art? Come and ask Lesley.
Chris Mitchell is a wood turner making beautiful timber products, for
those interested in an insight to the day to day working life of a full
time professional woodturning craftsman.
Lyn Broomhall is a very talented jeweller working with chain-maille
and other metals to develop some truly intricate and delicate pieces.
Jennifer G Frost is a silversmith and artist in mixed media, from which
she produces jewellery, silver bowls, spoons and art pieces. What
can’t Jennifer do? Come and see what she has presented this time.
June Hope is a textile artist working with hand-felted materials.
She artistically combines the finest Australian alpaca and merino
fleece often with silks and other fabrics & fibres. Sally Ridgway enjoys
spinning up exotic yarns with a focus on 3D felting, hand dyed silk
fabric and wool roving. Her felt purses are simply stunning.
Rita Power has this Philosophy: “Take a simple basic shape, add a huge
dollop of colour, stir in texture and creativity … and there you have
it, Rita’s recipe for fun garments and accessories”. Her business is
Ripping Yarnz! And her garments and pieces are as original and unique
as Rita herself.

MEL HILLS WILD ART
Growing up on the spectacular
East Coast of Tasmania, Mel
developed a fascination for all
forms of wildlife, and early on, an
obsessive interest in birds.
A childhood roaming the hills and
coast around Orford, progressed
into extended bushwalks which
nurtured a deep love of the
Tasmanian landscape with its’
exquisite light qualities and
intriguing denizens.
Mel specialises in wildlife
art, scientific illustration and
watercolour landscapes.

Evelyn Antonysen is a very talented artist and this is a common thread
throughout the works she creates, but to define her talent within a single
genre would be a mistake. By her own admission Evelyn is an art addict.
She paints extensively so her works are always a one-off original.
Exhibit starts at the special time of 9.00am.

Other exhibitors are also on show in the driveway of the Centre
