It sure did zoom by to me and I know the next three weeks will do the same as we buckle down for the last few weeks of the semester and the numerous activities that fill SCAPA’s calendar. Today, the University of Kentucky’s MIC Program is sending nine students to shadow some of our students in the middle school. The MIC Program stands for Master of Arts in Secondary Education with Initial Certification. This program accepts bachelor-degreed students in fields other than education and gives those students a chance to earn their masters degree and a teaching certificate. The program takes one-year to complete, yet it is very intensive requiring 34 hours of credits. Students in the MIC Program can earn their teaching certificate in one of five areas: Business/Marketing, English, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies. Our first middle school social studies teacher, Dr. Jeanette Groth, is one of the program coordinators. Please welcome the visiting students as they see what an awesome place SCAPA is. Have a good week, Beth Art Lease at the Bodley-Bullock House On Friday, November 19th, SCAPA’s art department participated in the Gallery Hop downtown. The prominent Bodley-Bullock House, located in the heart of downtown Lexington at 200 Market Street across from the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning, featured 96 pieces of artwork created by our fourth through eighth graders. The crowd that perused the exhibit was terrific and we leased 33 of those pieces that night. In addition to the pieces leased immediately, some good contacts were made and we are hoping some more pieces will be leased in the next few weeks. Excellent work Mr. Love, Mrs. Rizzo, and all the art students. As always, the students and parent volunteers had loads of fun constructing the magical (and delicious) creations. Although sticky beyond belief, these houses are made with love and go to support a great cause – The Salvation Army. The houses will be decorations for the season and then auctioned off with the proceeds going to the help the homeless in Lexington that use the facilities on Main Street. Thanks Sandy, Ruthie, and Paula Shafer, as well as Mrs. Waterbury-Gunn and Mr. Beers for always making time for this fabulous community service project.
