Look after
our library!
Our school library is packed with great books, but it's
often left in a mess! Here are our suggestions for how to look after it.
When you return a book, always hand it to the library monitor to scan.
Don't just put it back on the shelf!
If you're looking for books and take one off the shelf, put it back in the right
place afterwards. Fiction books go in alphabetical order by the author's
surname. For example, Roald Dahl books go under 'D', not 'R'.
Remember that the alphabet runs down the shelves, not across.
This means that 'B' is on the shelf under 'A', not the one next to it.
Look at the label on the spine to help you see exactly where books go.
Remember your alphabet! For example, 'Blyton' goes before
'Byars'.
Non-fiction books go in number order. For example, '909 RIC'
comes before '919.8 PAL'.
If you're really not sure where a book goes, just put it in the
red box and a library monitor will put it away for you!
Don't leave books lying on the floor. Pick up any you
see on the floor.
Never throw or bend books. Treat them with care.
Don't push books to the back of shelves, or leave them
in a mess.
Remember that you can take display books out, but if you can't reach them,
don't stand on the shelves – ask someone taller to reach them down.
Want to read some very silly stories? We each completed a line, covered it up
and handed it to someone else to continue. Here's what we ended up with.
Once upon a time there was
an octopus with a moustache
who lived in a mansion made
of jelly and cake and loved to
knit jumpers. One day he met
a freezer. Suddenly he got
zapped by aliens... and in the
end they froze to death.
Once upon a time there was Stampy and Squid who
lived in Monstro City and loved to teach children.
One day they met a big fridge. Suddenly there was
an explosion... and
in the end they
got married.
Once upon a time
there was a fat
frog who lived in a
balloon and loved
to jump in slime.
One day he met
Mr. Snoodle.
