COAXIAL SYSTEM
This Video Surveillance System is a Basic CCTV system design using coaxial cable with a solid bare copper
center conductor and a 95% bare copper braid for the video signal. This system also incorporates an
18 AWG 2 conductor cable to supply power to the camera and a multi conductor cable for the pan, tilt
and zoom controls if necessary. Usually the cable runs from the camera to a monitor, switch, multiplexer
or recorder.

UNSHIELDED TWISTED PAIR (UTP) SYSTEM
This Video Surveillance System uses video baluns to send the video signal over unshielded twisted pair
cable instead of coax. With the use of a composite cable which consists of two pairs of category 5e and
16 AWG 2 conductors under one jacket, you can supply the camera with power, video signal and (PTZ)
control over one cable. Advantages to using twisted pair cable over coax are listed below.
· Immune to noise
· Transmit over longer distances, 8,000’, with distance equalization
· Lower labor and cable cost
· Easy wire installation
· Cabling is lighter and takes up less space, 1/10th the size of coax
· Surge suppression for high lightning areas

UNSHIELDED TWISTED PAIR (UTP) LINKS™ SYSTEM
The Links System uses 4 pair 22 AWG UTP category 6 cable to carry video, power and control signals
from the camera to the head end. This system uses a cable design that conforms to
EIA/TIA 568B and allows the end user to upgrade to IP digital video surveillance equipment without having

FIBER OPTIC SYSTEM
The Fiber Optic System conver ts the CCTV video (also data & audio) from coax to multimode or
singlemode fiber and back to coax. These systems are usually used for extremely long cable runs. There is
also a security advantage to using fiber optic cable instead of other cable media. The cost of plenum fiber
optic cable is less than RG-11 plenum coax and at times makes a fiber solution very attractive.
