Carmeletta - Mt Carmel School
Carmeletta Our mission is to encourage each individual to achieve their personal best in a meeting place where Christ’s teachings are learned and lived. “Peace be with you! As the Father sent me, so I am sending you” John 20:21 Term 4 Week 7 18 November 2015 Sunday’s Gospel Reading from Mark 13:28-32 "Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see these things happening, know that he is near, at the gates. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. "But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." _________________________________________________________________________________ CALENDAR OF EVENTS Week 7 **SABBATH WEEK** 19 Community Council Meeting 6.30pm 20 Universal Children’s Day 22 Feast of Christ the King Week 8 25 Girls’ League Tag 26 Nominations open for student leadership 27 3TC Assembly 2.15pm _________________________________________________________________________________ 2015 TERM DATES Term 4 16 Dec End of Term 4 2016 TERM DATES Term 1 27 Jan 28 Jan 29 Jan 1 Feb 24 March 25 March 26 March 27 March 28 March 8 Apr Dear Parents, Teachers and Students, Citizenship Ceremony for Zuzy Webster Mayor Rowena Abbey conducted a citizenship ceremony this morning in the PAC to recognise Zuzy Webster becoming an Australian citizen. It was a great opportunity for the children to witness this special occasion and we congratulations Zuzy on this special day. Collaborating on Student Achievement (COSA+) One of our curriculum goals in 2015 was to improve student learning outcomes for numeracy through teachers working collaboratively. Last week saw the culmination of this work presented at a literacy and numeracy showcase attended by all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. Many thanks to Mel Allan and Esther Glover who prepared and presented our school’s COSA showcase. It was a huge effort and I am very grateful for the time and energy they each gave to bring it to reality. As well, thank you to all staff for their contributing activities, collection of data and for their enthusiasm to make this journey successful. The display and presentation was a true celebration of the work being done each day at Mt Carmel. Thanks also to Madonna Pianegonda, Numeracy Officer from Catholic Education, for her coaching and mentoring role in working with us over the last two years. 2016 Student Leadership The positions of School Captain, Vice Captain and House Captain at Mt Carmel School is the summit of student leadership in the school. Grey Wolf Award Last week James Gray was presented with the Grey Wolf Award, the pinnacle of the Cub Scout Award Scheme. This significant achievement is the culmination of three years of hard work. Congratulations James! Zuzy Webster’s Australian Citizenship Ceremony RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Let there be Peace on Earth Our School theme is “Peace be with you! As the Father sent me, so I am sending you.” This scripture verse comes from John 20:21. These inspirational words encourage us to extend Christ’s peace to others through our actions in our everyday lives. We are deeply aware of the tragic cycle of continuing violence around the world. As we each find our own way through the complex maze of inner feelings, it is useful to know that we are not alone in our struggles or in our hopes. Even as tragedy and suffering have occurred to so many people now and throughout history, there are also strong advocates with passionate, insightful voices calling for peace and healing. Trish O’Dell Primary Coordinator The School Vegetable Patch Learning about plants we can grow at school is fun. You can get your hands dirty being outdoors! We can be inspired to have a go at growing things ourselves at home and know what is healthy and in season for eating. We learnt about companion planting, and the difference between herbs, vegetables and fruits. We have planted strawberries, corn, tomatoes, pumpkins and climbing beans. The beans will grow on a tepee. The soil has been prepared because we have been practicing trench composting: where you put fruit scraps into the soil and cover it back over (the worms love it and there are no flies!).
