Dear Friends of Georgia Tech:
I hope you enjoy this publication that is meant to provide a welcome
and introduction to our move into the beautiful new McCamish Pavilion,
opening on our campus this October. This will provide a striking, stateof-the-art experience for Georgia Tech fans that will be magnificent, yet
cozy and comfortable. And, oh yes, as loud and intimidating as you’ll find
anywhere in college basketball.
This new building represents the commitment Georgia Tech is making in
pursuing the very best in college basketball. It positions our men’s and
women’s programs to compete at the highest level in the Atlantic Coast
Conference and nationally. It is also our way to thank our loyal fans for the
support shown over many decades. The memories created in Alexander
Memorial Coliseum through the years will never be forgotten. We want
this new facility to be a tribute to our tradition and history while ushering
all of us into a dynamic new era.
I want to thank the family of Mr. Henry F. McCamish Jr., who helped make
this dream a reality. I salute our coaches, student-athletes and fans for
making the best of the transition while the construction is completed. I
particularly want to thank Georgia Tech President G.P. “Bud” Peterson and
his administration for the vision and cooperation as well as the foresight
to see this as an iconic symbol which will welcome visitors to our campus
for many years to come.
I hope you’ll take the time to enjoy this look at what the future holds.

The New Home Of
The Yellow Jackets
Malcolm Mackey left as much of himself in old
Alexander Memorial Coliseum as anybody, and his
memories of the place -- particularly when he laid
out a Blue Devil in a 1993 game in AMC -- are as
indelible as can be found.
The Georgia Tech legend is ready, though, for new
digs for the Yellow Jackets. For him, McCamish
Pavilion cannot open soon enough.
“My top two memories are the pick I set on Bobby
Hurley in that arena and Dennis Scott hitting the
winning shot against North Carolina and running
out of the arena [in 1990], but it is overdue for a
makeover,” said Mackey, who remains Tech’s alltime leading rebounder with 1,205 from 1989-’90.
“When I first heard of the new place, I was like,
‘Dang. Everything is changing.’ I must have felt like
that for about two seconds, and then I thought . . .
it’s about time.”
Mackey and Tech fans won’t have to wait much
longer.
The family of Hank McCamish, Jr., donated a
significant portion of the estimated $48 million
makeover of AMC, and the new place is slated
to open next fall for the Tech men’s and women’s
squads.
Other than the impossible-to-forget roof (which
won’t leak any more), everything else will be new
although there will be a plaza on the west side of
McCamish dedicated to AMC, which opened in 1956.
Doug Hertz has been a Jackets fan for some 50
years, back to the days of coach Whack Hyder. He
can barely bridle his anticipation of McCamish even
after spending thousands of hours in the old place.
Like Mackey, Hertz will wax nostalgic about AMC if
you give him time.
He agrees, however, that time was up and not just
because of recrurring problems with the building’s
infrastructure.
“At its peak, it was a great home-court advantage,
but from a recruiting standpoint and a spectator
comfort standpoint it wasn’t the greatest,” said
Hertz, a season ticket holder dating back into the
1970s. “It’s going to have more comfortable seats,
be more wide open, have more televisions, and
more. I am looking forward to it.
“Given what coach [Brian] Gregory has been able to
recruit, that and the opening of the new building will
create a lot of excitement.”
With new club seating, better scoreboards, a
concourse that will allow fans a view of the court
for 270 degrees in addition to many more bells and
whistles, McCamish will bear the same basic bowl
shape as AMC yet with a cozier vibe.
Mackey, a freshman on Tech’s 1990 Final Four
team and a member of the Jackets’ 1993 ACC
championship squad, will never forget setting that
screen on Hurley. The Jackets, ranked No. 10 at the
time, beat No. 1 Duke that day, 80-79.
What made the old place special, though, had
nothing to do with design, shape, size or TVs.
“I think the biggest part was the fans; the students
were right there near our bench,” he said. “With them
going crazy so close to the floor, that was always
a good thing. I remember Chapel Hill [UNC] was
always easy to play even though it seated 20,000
because the students were so far from the court.
“We used to have the Thrillerdome rocking, and that
was due to the students who would literally sleep
outside so they could get tickets.
Good news: everybody will have a shot at an upclose view. There will be student seating along the
sideline and behind one basket, and floor seats for
uber-patrons like Hertz as well.
“This is going to be exciting for our fans, and more
comfortable,” Hertz said. “It’s going to be a great
homecourt advantage.”

be found on page 8. (Note: The process of seat selection
for women’s basketball will be released in April 2012.)

TICKET FAQs
How do I purchase season tickets for the 2012-13
season when Georgia Tech opens McCamish Pavilion?
Current season ticket holders (Philips Arena in 2011-12)
will have first priority for season tickets in McCamish
Pavilion and assigned seat selection times in A-T Fund
priority point order.
Men’s Basketball Wait List
Individuals who currently do not have 2011-12 men’s
basketball season tickets must join the wait list in order
to be notified about ticket availability. The wait list is
the best opportunity to be notified if any season tickets
become available. If seats are available following the
first priority allocation, requests for new season tickets
will be filled by those that are on the wait list and by
Alexander-Tharpe (A-T) Fund priority points. Those who
are requesting to be placed on the wait list must do so
by May 1, 2012. To put your name on the wait list, please
visit www.ramblinwreck.com/mccamishpavilion. Your
non-refundable wait list deposit will be applied to the
purchase of your season tickets.
When McCamish Pavilion opens, can I keep the same
seats I had in Alexander Memorial Coliseum?
Due to the renovation, your Alexander Memorial
Coliseum seating location no longer exists. McCamish
Pavilion will have an all-new seating layout.
What can I do between now and the opening of
McCamish Pavilion to optimize my seating location?
Additional donations to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund will
continue to increase your A-T priority points and your
overall ranking. This may be a good time to consider
making a pledge or planned commitment. The seat
selection process for McCamish Pavilion will be completed
in order by A-T priority points. The priority point cutoff
date is March 16, 2012. Gifts and commitments made
after this date will continue to count towards your A-T
priority points, but will NOT count towards your 201213 men’s basketball season ticket seating priority. If you
have additional questions, please contact an AlexanderTharpe Fund staff member at 404-894-5414.
When will seat selection for McCamish Pavilion take
place?
Season ticket holder online appointment times will be
assigned and communicated (via mail and email) in
April 2012. Seat selection will begin in May 2012 and
conclude in June 2012.
Will I be able to visit McCamish Pavilion in person to
view available seating?
Based on the current construction timeline, in person
tours of McCamish Pavilion will not be available during
the seat selection process. However, the Athletic
Association will provide an online experience that will
allow you to view a 3-D seating model of McCamish
Pavilion.
Will I have an opportunity to view the online 3-D
seating diagram before my seat selection?
Yes. The seating diagram for McCamish Pavilion is now
live online at: www.ramblinwreck.com/mccamishpavilion.
What is the process if I want to sit with other friends or
family members?
You may choose to select your seats so that you are
able to sit next to a family member, friend, classmate or
colleague. All persons in your group will be assigned the
same selection time. The average point total of your
group will be used to determine the group seat selection
ranking within the Alexander-Tharpe (A-T) Fund priority
point system. ALL individuals within a group must submit
a written group seating request (group seating request
application can be found online at www.ramblinwreck.
com/mccamishpavilion) to the Georgia Tech Ticket
Office no later than March 23, 2012 in order to schedule
an appointment time together.
How will seat selection work for McCamish Pavilion?
The Georgia Tech Athletic Association will offer current
men’s basketball season ticket holders the most efficient
and customer-friendly tool available to facilitate your
desire to self-select seats. The online seat selection
process will be based upon a 3-D seating diagram of
McCamish Pavilion, developed by Ballena Technologies.
In May of 2012, the seat assignment process will be
conducted online and will provide the convenience of
self-selecting seats from your home or office. The Seat
Relocation Management System (SRMS) will implement
an online experience for season ticket holders to choose
seats at a specific time. A customer ID and Pin# will be
provided to season ticket holders for login purposes.
Appointment times will be staggered every 5-10 minutes.
Appointment Times
Season ticket holders will be provided with a predetermined appointment time to go online and select
from available seats. Each season ticket holder will be
notified in advance by mail and email notification of their
appointment time to select their seats.
Should a season ticket holder NOT be available for
their seat selection time, a seat selection proxy (proxy
application can be found online at www.ramblinwreck.
com/mccamishpavilion) can be assigned on their
behalf for an Alexander-Tharpe Fund or ticket office
staff member to select your seats online during your
appointment time. Those who wish to have an Athletics
representative select their seats must return a written
and signed proxy by May 1, 2012. Please contact the
ticket office for additional information at 888-TECH-TIX
or the Alexander-Tharpe Fund office at 404-894-5414.
Online Selection
Specific instructions will be provided to each season ticket
holder when appointment times are communicated. At
the assigned appointment time, a season ticket holder
will log-in to the online seat selection program with the
Customer ID and PIN Number provided by the ticket
office. It will be important to accurately complete all
steps of the online seat selection process, including
understanding the procedure for ticket payment.
What if I miss my appointment time?
Those who miss their scheduled appointment may login
to self-select seats at any time after their appointment
has begun. The time slots for future season ticket
holders have a start date, but not an ending date (while
the process remains open if ticket availability still exists).
Therefore, you can select your seats any time after your
designated start date, but not before that date. Please
note that if you miss your scheduled appointment time,
other season ticket holders will self-select seats at their
appointment time and preferred seats may not be
available.
