PASS IT ON April 2011 Helpful information to enhance senior living provided by Pender Adult Services Alzheimers walk April 2 Many students see the local county requirements of graduation project as another hoop they must jump through in order to graduate. However, some students use this assignment as a way to give back to their community. Hanna Bell is a senior at Pender High School who is trying to give back to her community through her senior project. Hanna has researched Alzheimers disease and has created a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. Hanna’s grandmother had Alzheimer’s disease. The emotional toll that it has on families has encouraged her to want to learn more about the disease and help raise money to find a cure. During the time she has worked on this project, she has met many victims and families that struggle with these issues everyday. April 2 at Pender High School, the community of Burgaw and the surrounding areas will come together for the walk-a-thon “Moving to find a Cure” for Alzheimers. Hanna Bell has worked with Pender Adult Services to arrange the first annual Moving to Find a Cure 5K run that will begin at 9 a.m. and a mile or more walk will begin at 10 a.m. “My goal for this walk is to raise over $5,000 to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association,” Bell said. Corporate sponsors for the event include Burgaw Eye Care, Black River Health Services, and Pender Adult Services. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the association. For more information or to donate to the cause, contact Hanna Bell at 232.8401 or hbell172428@aol. Applications are also available at Pender Adult Services, 901 S. Walker Street, Burgaw.
