The 24th Annual
Komen San Francisco Bay Area Race for the Cure®
Will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 along the Embarcadero in
San Francisco. The Race is designed to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure series is the largest
series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, and raises significant funds and awareness for the fight
against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their
battle with the disease. The Komen Race for the Cure is an
opportunity for thousands of women, men and their families, running or walking, to spread the breast cancer message within their communities.
Up to 75% of the funds raised are re-invested right here
in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide breast health
research, diagnostics, screening, treatment, services and
education for uninsured or under-insured individuals. The
remaining 25% goes to fund the National Komen Research
and Grants program, working to discover the causes of
breast cancer and, ultimately, its cures.

epicurean artisans join together for an inspiring day of
premier food and wine tastings, chef demonstrations and

It all takes place outdoors at Justin Herman Plaza on the
Embarcadero, which is transformed for the day into a
European-style marketplace, taking full advantage of the
season’s gorgeous weather and the waterfront’s beautiful
views. Come feast, drink, and celebrate—all benefiting a
great cause: Meals on Wheels of San Francisco!
Meals on Wheels of San Francisco is a local non-profit that exists to alleviate the
food insecurity and loneliness experienced by seniors who wish to stay in their own
home but cannot shop or prepare meals for themselves.

The Mission of At The Crossroads is
to reach out to homeless youth and young
adults at their point of need, and work
with them to build healthy and fulfilling
lives. We focus on young people who do not
access traditional services and are disconnected from any type of consistent support.
We accomplish our mission through a combination of nighttime street outreach and
one-on-one counseling, and collaboration
with other service providers. We walk the
streets of the Mission and Downtown/Tenderloin at nighttime, bringing help to our
clients, rather than making them come to
us. We remove common barriers to service
by bringing our counselors onto the streets,
and shaping our support services around
the needs of each individual client. Our
goal is to help our clients build outstanding
lives, not just lives of subsistence.

as stroke, near-drowning, or severe electrical
shock. Approximately 80% of cardiac arrests
occur at home, so learning this life-saving
technique could save the life of someone close
to you, especially if you have family or friends
with heart disease.

How to Prevent the Silent Menace

Stress can be described as the anxiety we
feel when circumstances in our lives get a
little overwhelming. Usually these feelings of
anxiety fade away with time, but sometimes
the feelings linger. Unfortunately, stress
causes a variety of negative reactions in the
body. Stopping stress in its tracks can halt
these effects and prevent long-term physical
harm. Learn what stress is, what occurs in
the body when stress strikes and how damaging the effects of stress can be. During
this brown bag seminar, Chiro-Medical Group
experts will review a variety of tried-and-true
stress-reduction techniques and discuss what
you can do to reverse the effects of stress on
the body.
