Simplicity Tool Corporation makes no express or implied warranty against rust when using this or any other product. 122 SERIES CORNERS The 122 Series corners are available in electro galvanized steel (E) or primed aluminum (smooth (AP) or wood grain textured (WG)) as standard materials. Constructed with a right angle flange, these corners come with nail holes on the lip for bottom nailing, making these corners easier to replace if damaged. The 122 Series Corners are also available in copper or stainless steel (by special order only) and available in a wide variety of lengths and flange widths to cover most styles of wood siding. 122 Series Corners are designed primarily for wood siding. 122 Series Corner Textures 122 Series Corners Size Chart Retu rn Lip Length 3/8" 7/16" 1/2" 5/8" 11/16" 3/4" 6" Alum - - - - 6" Steel - - 8" Alum - - - 8" Steel - - - - 10" Alum - - - - 10" Steel 12" Alum 12" Steel - - - - - - - - - - - - Stocked - Non Stock (Special Order) Part Numbering Guide 122AP - 3/4” - Specifications Aluminum - . 016" Coated Aluluminum Material Steel - 28 Gauge EG Steel Texture Smooth and Wood Grain Face Width 1 3/4" on the bottom tapering to 1 1/4" on top Packaging 100/CTN 10” MATERIAL NOTIFICATION FOR 122E AND 121E Series + Texture 122AP 122WG 122E Lip Size 3/8” 7/16” ½” 5/8” 11/16” ¾” Length 6” 8” 10” 12” These corners are NOT galvanized for Rust Protection. This precut Junction Flashing allows for fast and easy installation and the ¼” Slip Fit Positioning Lip also insures quick and accurate placement every time. It is manufactured out of 0.016” primed aluminum and coated on the inside for full protection to protect against corrosive reaction with the siding. Simplicity Tool Junction Flashing is a full 6” wide to provide the 3” coverage on each side of the butt joint seam outlined by popular siding best practices. The Joint Covers protect the butt joint where two siding planks meet and provide an expansion joint to help prevent siding buckling. A wraparound lower lip hooks the siding and requires one nail to hold it in place. 0.016” aluminum covers are primed on the outside and ready to paint and coated for full protection on the inside. They are manufactured with either a smooth or wood grained texture and are available in lengths and return lip widths to fit all major brands of hardboard and cement fiber siding, including most profiled 12” and 16” shapes (see additional page for details). Face width is 13/16”. 140 Series Joint Covers 140 Series Flat Edge Retrofit Joint Covers 140 Series Rolled Edge Retrofit Joint Covers 140 Series Retrofit Joint Covers are also available for use typically after siding installation has been completed and the seams open up, or the siding was installed with too large of a gap at the seam to be covered by the regular joint covers. Retrofit joint covers do not have the rib on the back, so they are more flexible and will need fastening to keep the part in place. These joint covers are wider than the regular parts. Retrofit joint covers are not typically stocked, but are made in a wide variety of styles, widths, finishes and lengths. Off Stud Joiners are manufactured using 24 gauge, G-90 galvanized steel, preprimed for easy painting. The joiners creates a solid backing behind the joint producing a better caulk line and holds the bottom edge in line to provide a clean shadow line. . Quick Clips The Quick Clip, an improved version of the Aligning Clip, offers even easier installation with no visible shelf remaining after installation. The Quick Clips are available for either square edge or angled drip edge siding. The breakaway portion of the clip is removed with three or four quick up and down bending motions. Aligning Clips Aligning clips are designed for use with all makes of 5/16” square edge fiber cement and hardboard siding that requires a 1-1/4” overlap. The clips significantly reduce installation time, and effectively reduce the number of workers required to install the siding resulting in overall job cost savings. Each clip gauges the 1-1/4” set, while providing a shelf for the next lap to rest on while nailing. Aligning Clips are manufactured using G-90 galvanized steel, prime coated for easy painting. Once installed and painted, the small portion of the clip that is left exposed is virtually invisible. No part of the clip covers the exposed face of the siding. Off Stud Joiners Painted Installation Instructions for 199, 259, 279, 289, and 299 Series Corners 1. Install theLap siding as per manufacturers’ recommendations. While installing, please be sure to observe the following cautions: a. Be sure to run the siding long enough at the corners. The top of the planks should almost meet at the corners. If the siding is installed ‘short’ at the corners, the siding corners may not be long enough to adequately cover the siding at the bottom. See Figure 1. Figure 1 b. Be sure that the bottom edge of two courses line up. If not, one side or the other will have a gap when the corner is installed. See Figure 2. Figure 2 2. c. If you are bottom nailing the siding, do not nail within 4” of the corner. Starting with the bottom course, carefully slide the first corner up and under the second course. Continue until the bottom wrap around lip is fully fitted to the bottom courses. 3. Nail diagonally into the corner stud, using a galvanized nail with a head of at least 3/16”, and a length sufficient to penetrate the stud at least 1”. See Figure 3. Figure 3 4. While driving the nail, pay attention to the vertical and horizontal alignment of the siding corner. By drifting the nail left/right/up/down, it is fairly simple to ensure good alignment of the corner. Drive the nail so that the corner is snug, but do not overdrive the nail, as the corner will become distorted and have to be replaced. Do not use a power nailer. 5. Repeat steps 2-4, working from the bottom up. Trim the last corner to fit, and nail on the sides (top corner only). INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION FOR OFF STUD JOINERS For Easier Installation of Fiber Cement Siding The vertical joints of the planks shall occur at the framing members or between the framing members when an off stud joiner is placed on the plank end. The off stud joiner is positioned so that the bottom lip is resting on the adjacent solid course of planks. The plank is then fastened to the framing. The abutting plank is positioned and fastened into place insuring that the lower edges of the two planks align. The off stud joiner is located centrally over the joint. Restrictions on the off stud joiner locations are follows: a) All splices shall be located a minimum of two stud cavities from wall corner. b) Successive splices within the same plank course shall be located no closer than 48” from one another. c) All splices shall be staggered at minimum 2-foot intervals when located in the same wall cavity. d) Splices shall be at least one stud cavity away from door openings. OFF STUD JOINER MATERIAL NOTIFICATION FOR OFF STUD JOINERS These parts ARE galvanized for Rust Protection. We use G-90 (the heaviest zinc coating available to us) galvanized steel, which is then primed for paint adhesion. Despite these two coatings, these parts are designed to be painted after application. Premature rusting can occur if additional protection is not applied. Simplicity Tool Corporation recommends appropriate caution when applying this part to pre-painted siding. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION FOR 140 SERIES JOINT COVERS NAIL SIDING 1. Minimum one nail within 1/2” of the top of the joint cover, centered between the siding courses so as not to penetrate either siding. See Figure 1. JOINT COVER Figure 1 SIDING COURSE ABOVE 2. This nail is usually placed so as to be covered by the course above. Nail should have minimum 1/8” head, and be of sufficient length to penetrate the stud by at least 1/2”. See Figure 2. Figure 2 3. Optionally, additional nails may be added in the mid to lower portion of the cover. Nail size and placement should be as per above. See Figure 3. OPTIONAL NAILS Figure 3 IMPORTANT: It is important to place the nails such that they penetrate the center line of the joint cover, between courses of siding below. Do not nail into the siding being joined. The joint cover must float relative to both courses of siding being joined. Failure to follow this instruction may result in early failure of the installation.
