by
LAURA WADE
Twelve year old Alice suffers a terrible sense of loss when her
older brother is run down by a car and killed. This re-interpretation
of Lewis Carroll’s classic book follows Alice into her own
wonderland where Carroll’s characters help steer her toward
recovery. A fascinating evening for those who love the book and
possibly, an eye opener for those who don’t. It promises to show
the Crescent Youth Theatre at their very best.

When the usurped Duke of Milan and
his daughter, Miranda, are cast out to
sea to face certain death, the jealous
instigator of this plot little reckons
on the fate that awaits him. This tale
of revenge and reconciliation, love
and hate, comedy and near tragedy,
captures its audience as well as the
characters on stage with the magic
and wonder of Prospero’s island
and some of Shakespeare’s most
beautiful verse.
11 - 18 APRIL
Two one act plays devoted to those women and men
who work in clubs up and down the country. Share their
lives, aspirations, disappointments and ability to brush
themselves down and start again.
Rich in the most toe-curlingly funny observation with the
cast taking on a host of different roles at the click of a finger,
both plays veer from side-splittingly funny to where’s my
hanky? weepy. A must for all lovers of life.

SHELAGH STEPHENSON
A chip shop in London. A girl asks a boy for a pound. He
refuses. High on drugs, she stabs him to death. For his
family the need for revenge corrodes. When his mother
decides that the only way to halt this destructive spiral of
hate is to meet the girl face-to-face she little realises that
their initial disastrous meetings can lead to understanding
and conciliation. A brilliant, thought-provoking play to move
and inspire.

17 JAN PAULINE QUIRKE ACADEMY
THE AUDITION by Don Zolidis
A new teacher is bringing a production of A Chorus
Line to school. Though the hopefuls range from shy
to outrageous, and from diva-like to determined,
everyone has a chance to step into the spotlight. A
hilarious and heart-breaking look at the madness of
auditioning and the actors who brave the process.
Based on Puccini’s La Boheme, the iconic
Broadway musical follows a group of friends in
New York’s East Village through their own individual
hardships and struggles over the course of 525,600
minutes a year in their life. Impulse Productions bring
together a host of local professional talent for this
charity production which is guaranteed to both excite
and move you – and definitely leave you wanting
more. This performance contains adult themes
of a sexual nature, some strong language and
upsetting themes.

by Michael Morpurgo, adapted by Simon Reade
1916. Private Tommo Peaceful sits alone in a trench

brave lads out in France need you too.” He reflects
on the cycles of attacks and defeats, retreats and
Big Pushes that Tommo and Charlie endure with
their school mates Pete, Nipper, Les and Jimmy. He
thinks of his worried friends and family back home as
he contemplates his whole life.

ANNIVERSARY
TOUR
THE SPECKLED PEOPLE
Being one of the World’s most recognised Spiritualist Mediums
and Healers, Colin’s TV series 6IXTH SENSE has now been
broadcast worldwide for numerous years making his public
performances an international demand. This year’s tour will
once again see Colin Fry bring his own unique form of comfort
and upliftment to ordinary people living ordinary lives, proving
once again he is very much the People’s Medium.
Based on Hugo Hamilton’s best-selling memoir, the play tells
the story of a boy trapped in the language war between the
Irish of his Nationalist father, the German of his immigrant
mother and the English outside in the streets of 1950s Dublin.
A gripping, poignant and often hilarious drama unfolds as the
boy struggles with what it means to be ‘speckled’ – half Irish
and half German.
Evenings of Mediumship are not scientifically proven and
are presented for education and entertainment purposes.

THE FAITH MACHINE
by Alexi Kaye Campbell
Travelling from America to Britain to a remote Greek island,
this epic new play explores the relationship between faith and
capitalism and asks fundamental questions about the true
meaning of love. A sharp, funny, wise and wonderful play.
Set amongst Dublin’s Quaker community in 1850, THE SUGAR
WIFE offers an engrossing examination of sexual politics and
political morality. Hannah Tewkley is torn between her work
with the city’s poor and her husband’s prospering business. A
well-intentioned visit from an English philanthropist and a freed
slave, both scarred by the horrors of America’s Deep South,
challenges the Tewkleys to maintain their lofty ideals.

15-18 APR STAGE2
23+24 APR NEWMAN UNIVERSITY 2ND YEAR DRAMA
Shakespeare’s HAMLET is probably the most famous play in
the world and over its 400-year history has been interpreted in
thousands of different ways on stage and screen. Stage2 has
a long established history of presenting award-winning 5 star
Shakespeares that are clear and accessible to all ages and
all levels of experience. As usual we have plenty of twists and
concepts to provoke discussion and debate…
In 1969 student Jan Palach set fire to himself in Wenceslas
Square, Prague in protest at both the Soviet invasion and the
indifference of the Czech people. This neglected experimental
work shines a torch on Palach’s desperate and heroic final act,
ensuring his sacrifice continues to illuminate the world.
“If this production had found itself at Stratford rather than the
Crescent Theatre it would not have looked out of place.”
Behind the Arras on Stage 2’s The Tempest, 2013
Hamlet and his beloved father were inseparable – the teenage
Prince was schooled to rule in tandem, then take over when
ready. Gertrude was excluded from their plans and pacts.
(She began to look elsewhere…) Laertes was taught discipline
and leadership by his ambitious father Polonius, with a clear
path to the highest ranks of the military. Ophelia, vulnerable
and motherless, is of little interest to their father (until finally
she becomes useful…).
Claudius’ daughters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were
brought up with Hamlet but their relationship deteriorates badly.
Rosencrantz is given the ultimate opportunity to take revenge,
There may also be, or not be, other bits you recognise…
Please note this play will run at approx 3 hours including
interval.
