Dear DMLA Conference Attendees,
IT IS MY PLEASURE TO WELCOME YOU TO THE
20TH ANNUAL DML A CONFERENCE.
This year we are returning to the Hyat t Hotel in Jersey Cit y. With large business-class
rooms, great VIEWS OF THE NYC SK YLINE and only one train stop away from downtown
Manhat tan, the Hyat t is a comfor table and convenient location for our meeting.
The DML A Conference provides an oppor tunit y for us to take a break from our laptops and
shake hands over a deal, gain insight on the newest developments impac ting our industr y,
socialize with colleagues at the annual par t y and leverage travel time and expenses with
other industr y events like PhotoPlus and Visual Connec tions.
The programming commit tee and Executive Direc tor CATHY ARON of fer their years of
experience and fresh perspec tives with valuable sessions addressing relevant and timely
issues facing our industr y today. With session titles such as, “ The Death of Stock ” and “ The
Business of Free”, there are sure to be some CONTROVERSIAL AND THOUGHT PROVOKING
DISCUSSIONS. This is sure to be some of our best programming to date.
In an ef for t to be more inclusive and create new oppor tunities for our members, in 2014
for the f irst time, we have invited ever yone in the media licensing communit y to our
annual par t y: buyers, photographers/f ilmmakers, and licensors. Our event last year, held at
The International Center of Photography Museum was ex tremely well received. Following
this successful event, this year ’s DMLA ANNUAL PART Y will continue to expand our
invitation to those involved with media licensing to join us at the stunning Condé Nast
event space at the World Trade Center. This is a brand new venue, with DML A at tendees
being the f irst to enjoy this location.

ALEX STONE
Co-founder & CEO // Imagewiki
Alex Stone has a history of innovating and applying technology solutions to media and rights. In 2009 Alex Stone cofounded Catalogik software as a service platform for music companies to manage all aspects of their digital assets, from
ingestion to point of sale for synchronization licenses. In 2013, Catalogik was acquired by Rumblefish, the world’s largest
provider of micro-licenses and pioneer in licensing verification and royalty administration across various video sharing
platforms, and is currently being utilized to manage millions of music copyrights and digital assets globally. Since leaving Rumblefish, Alex co-founded Imagewiki, an initiative which seeks to bring revenue and control to image
copyright owners while bringing harmony to the image sharing ecosystem. Imagewiki’s software can automatically identify image content and allow online service providers (OSPs) to monetize user generated content and improve compliance
on their platform. Alex has been mentioned in Billboard and Techcrunch and has been a strong advocate for intellectual
property law and transparency of copyright.

After a turn at being a cartoonist and online fine art broker, Alan Capel started in stock photography as a picture
researcher and library manager at Tony Stone Images in the days before digital. He then focused on the development
of the sophisticated keywording approach implemented by Getty Images. Alan joined Alamy shortly after its inception in 2000 and as Head of Content is responsible for Alamy’s images and the recruitment and management of the
contributors who provide them. He developed Alamy’s strategy for social media and was most recently responsible
for their mobile phone app ‘Stockimo’. Alan is a regular speaker at photography industry events. He is a past board
member of PACA (now DMLA). He is a published photographer but much prefers drawing to taking pictures and has
co-authored four cartoon books.
ANNA DICKSON

Anna Dickson is currently Deputy Director of Photography at the Wall Street Journal. Her career spans 10 years in
the industry working in both print and online. Publications include Guitar World Magazine, Rolling Stone and Popular Photography. in 2010 she moved online to iHeartRadio where she oversaw 850 websites and events, including
the iHeartRadio Music festival. In 2012, Anna moved to Huffington post to launch Huffington., the iPad Magazine
before becoming Photography Director for Huffington Post and AOL. She’s focused her last few years on building
asset management and image based products for the newsroom, leveraging user generated content online and
social strategy for Instagram. CHAD NEWELL

CueSongs is the only company in the world to represent all the Majors as well as 350 Independent labels licensing music
from some of the top bands and artists in the world to professional content creators in the online video world. In less than
a year with CueSongs, Christina has increased revenues fivefold and brought her knowledge of licensing premium imagery
to the burgeoning world of short form video across the new platforms of YouTube, Vimeo, Vine and Facebook.

Daniel Norton is a Photographer, Director and DP with over 15 years experience in the advertising and editorial markets.
As Director of Content Production and Events for AdoramaPro, Daniel utilizes his industry experience and comprehensive
skill sets to accomplish the results demanded from any size production. Daniel also produces and hosts FREE weekly instore trainings at Adorama every Thursday as well as the Adorama TV series On Set with Daniel Norton.

David Charlec is the 500px Mobile Lead. David oversees the development of 500px mobile applications on iOS and
Android. His team is responsible for delivering 500px newest innovations and user interfaces.
David joined 500px in 2013 after his mobile application studio “Pulpfingers”, based in France, was acquired by 500px.
Pulpfingers was responsible for creating the first ever 500px third party application available on the App Store.
David started his career in 2001 as a web designer and developer before focusing on mobile applications in 2010. He is
also an avid portrait photographer.

David Los is the founder and CEO of Foap, a user-generated photography service that answers the growing demand from
brands, advertising agencies and consumers for real, authentic imagery. Leveraging his passion for the intersection of
photography and branded social media content, David launched the successful app and online creative marketplace in
early 2012.
At the age of 23, David co-founded Tripl (previously known as Vacation Relation), a social travel website that connected
travelers, locals and friends via Facebook, while pursuing a masters of banking and finance at Stockholm University.
David’s entrepreneurial endeavors began when he was just 16 years old: while studying at Södertörn University, he
launched an event company geared toward publicizing on-campus parties and other student-led events. A Swedish native,

Derick is Director of Footage at Shutterstock, a leading stock photography and footage company. He previously founded
fStop, a Berlin-based footage and imagery collection, as well as Listgeeks, a social network built around collaborative
list making.
Derick wrote and directed his first feature film, “Secret Everything,” in 2012. His favorite book is John Kennedy Toole’s
“A Confederacy of Dunces.”

Jennifer Perlmutter (JP) has worked with award-winning photographers and companies over the past seven years,

JOANNE BOREK

Ms. Borek is a Digital Marketing and Creative Leader offering 18+ years experience with a proven track record in integrated
marketing, social media, video, and e-business solutions. She held top level Digital Director roles at Havas and McCANN,
where she lead in developing and teaching 101-style training programs for inter-agency digital integration, created and
implemented agency digital process, and ran client lectures on digital strategy and social/emerging media for local and
global accounts.
After the past decade leading digital departments in large public agencies, Ms. Borek formed her own private group,
Exposure. Named after her passion for photography, and passion to bring her clients’ products or services to light,
Exposure purposely stays lean in size to give them effective strategies and production without the bloated process or costs
of holding companies. Exposure’s services are digital strategy, interactive and UX design, and visual branding for all industry
verticals.
Ms. Borek holds a BFA in photography and an MFA in Media Arts. Her publications include National Geographic, LA Times,
NY Times, and PDN. She lives with her husband and stepson in New Jersey.
JOAQUIN CUENCA ABELA

Joaquín Cuenca founded Panoramio in 2005, creating the biggest repository of user contributed, geolocated online
photography in the world. It was integrated into Google Maps and Google Earth and acquired by Google in 2007, where
Joaquín worked for 3 years.
In 2011 Joaquín co-founded Freepik with Alejandro and Pablo Sanchez. Freepik started as a vertical search engine of free
illustrations. In 2013 they bootstrapped the creation of their own illustrations, carefully designed in-house and licensed with
CC, and launched Flaticon where we replicated the same core ideas of monochromatic icons. Today the company employs
over a hundred creatives located all over the globe, and contains the biggest public, fully owned repository of illustrations
and monochromatic icons in the world. Joaquín is an active angel investor with a sizable position in other successful (and
some not so successful) Spanish companies.
JON PARKER
Co-Founder & Brand Director // Dissolve
Jon Parker is a co-founder and Brand Director of Dissolve, a stock footage company. For more than 15 years, Jon has helped
creative companies build their brands, market their products, and deliver consistent experiences.
Jon was a founding partner of Veer, a stock image and typeface company that was acquired by Corbis in 2007. Jon has held
senior creative positions at Corbis, Getty Images, and Adobe, and developed brand strategies for several other private
clients. Jon lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife Rory, a graphic designer. He’s obsessed with NYC’s urban and architectural
history, and appears to be on a personal mission to Instagram every old hand-painted sign in the five boroughs.
JULIE GRAHAME

Julie Grahame has represented the Estate of Yousuf Karsh for rights and clearances for ten years. She is the publisher of aCurator.
com, a full-screen photography magazine, and the associated aCurator blog, one of the ten best photo sites named by the British
Journal of Photography and one of Life.com’s top 20. Julie is a consultant, portfolio reviewer, writer and speaker. She is a member
of American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP) and American Photography Archive Group (APAG); judges photography for
various non-profits, and is a contributing writer for PDN’s Emerging Photographer and EDU magazines.
KRISTY HOPPER
Manager of Campaign Services // Agency Access
Kristy Hopper received a bachelor’s degree in art history from Hofstra University and is currently working as the Manager of
Campaign Services at Agency Access. A strong advocate for employing a vanguard approach to the art marketing industry, she
works with her clients to build customized and consistent marketing campaigns. Her professional interests focus on researching
and proving that humanistic connections are more important then ever in a sometimes technologically restricted world. Her
current efforts to support her cause include monitoring and documenting campaign successes based on personal interaction
coupled with passive marketing materials. In addition, she holds expertise in the field of phone marketing and insists this form
of marketing is not a lost art if done right. She now serves as a guide-source for a staff of marketing professionals, assisting them
with achieving their shared goal of meeting and exceeding industry marketing standards.

He has been a working photographer in the commercial and corporate sector for 25 years, and in that time has been involved
with Photonica, Getty, Imagesource and Alamy as a stock contributor. He is also the co-owner of the interior archive picture library. Liam has a masters in Fine Art Photography and enjoys crazy golf, photography conferences, and science.

joining Getty Images in 2005, Lizanne was an instructor at the University of Washington and Seattle University and, before that,

Marisol Muñiz is the legal counsel at age fotostock Spain, S.L., a stock photo agency based in Barcelona, Spain with offices in
Madrid, Paris and New York and for the past fifteen years she’s been handling all legal issues for the company group.
Marisol graduated from the University of Montreal in 1991 with a degree in Law and in Political Sciences, specialized in International Relations. She also holds a Law Degree from the “Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona” and is qualified to practice law in
Quebec and Spain. Marisol is fluent in Spanish, French and English.
She left her position with an IP law firm in Canada to join a renowned Patent and Trademark firm until joining age
fotostock in 2000. She is collaborating with CEPIC in the antitrust complaint filed against Google Images and in the White
Paper sent by CEPIC to the European Commission outlining its views regarding the insufficient protection of images online
and providing policy recommendations on framing, host provider privileges and implied consent.

Michael is founder of Morguefile.com, a free photo website and mobile application. When Michael created Morguefile, the
intention was to create a resource for creative professionals, and built by creatives, as a tool and an open source of inspiration.
Since its creation in 2001, Morguefile has become a valued resource providing millions of downloads of its 360,000 photo
archive. Michael had spent 18 years in the advertising industry as an expert in digital production. He is originally from Secaucus
NJ, and currently lives in Long Island City with his wife and their twin girls, who are identical, and equally very cute.
MICK REED
CEO // Clippn
Mick Reed is an award-winning producer with roots in the independent film world and over 20 years of entertainment,
broadcast, and corporate credits. He has been a producer and consumer of stock footage throughout his career. A hands-on
expert in production-through-post workflows, Mick founded Clippn in 2013 to give content creators a single entry point to reach
multiple distributors.
Clippn has grown to reach 50% of the global market and offers a platform to handle the curation, editing, tagging, and delivery of
content for contributors and distributors alike. Mick’s nonprofit work is focused on introducing the world of filmmaking to
children living in underserved areas.

Mitch Martinez is an international director of photography based out of Philadelphia, PA. In addition to filming everything
from aerial cinematography and music videos to documentaries and feature films, Mitch also runs the top free 4K stock footage resource on his website – mitchmartinez.com. Clients and notable usage include Microsoft, HBO, Nike, Warner Brothers,

Nancy E. Wolff, a member of the Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment law firm of Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams
& Sheppard, LLC located in New York City, representing a wide range of creative individuals and companies in all areas of
digital media, licensing and publishing. She acts as counsel to the Digital Media Licensing Association and the PLUS Coalition,
Inc. a non-profit dedicated to creating standards in image licensing. She counsels clients in copyright, trademarks, licensing,
branding, and negotiates a broad range of contracts as well as performing fair use and libel vets. Ms. Wolff represents clients

Nancy Wolff is a frequent speaker throughout the United States and Europe on copyright, digital media, and licensing for
many organizations. She is the Vice President /President Elect of the Copyright Society of the USA, Chair of the ABA IP Section
Committee On Visual Arts, Dramatic Works and Motion Picture and serves on the ABA Copyright Reform Task Force. She was
ranked this year by Super Lawyers as one of the top 50 female lawyers in New York City.

Nuno Silva is a photographer who started his career in the technology sector and progressed to the space where artistic
expression and technology meet. Having worked as an IT Manager he became fascinated with web technology and digital
content. His passion for digital artwork and interest in photography matured into a successful portfolio and lead position
within the Content team at iStockPhoto, owned by Getty Images. Nuno further developed a reputation as a commercial
photographer and artistic project manager working for large corporate clients and agencies. Building upon an experienced
career, with over a decade of industry knowledge, Nuno become a founding member of the Stocksy United co-operative
in February of 2013 as Director of Content. In early 2014 he left Stocksy to join the team at 500px as Director of Content,
working on their innovative commercial licensing product. Through his role at Getty Images, Nuno was honored to be a
guest judge for the Sony World Photography Awards for two consecutive years in a row.

Patrick is the Associate Creative Director, Social at Mirum Canada-the J. Walter Thompson associated global digital agencies. After taking a brief hiatus from advertising at Rocket XL (now Dare), he joined Apple but then the world of social media
advertising came knocking once more.
Starting at Grip as a community manager for a variety of Labatt and Yum! Foods brands (KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut), he quickly
moved up the ranks to Associate Director, Creative content, overseeing and producing social creative content for Grip’s portfolio.
Patrick has been involved in campaigns for Taco Bell’s “Eat Your Words” and the launch and content of Stella Artois’ Global Instagram, including their live coverage of the Cannes Film Festival and Wimbledon last year. Patrick was also responsible for the daily
development and production of social content for Honda and Acura in Canada before making the leap to Mirum. Patrick brings a

Sabria and his co-founders created the world’s first visual marketing platform for collecting, curating and showcasing

headquarters, Sabria oversees the company strategy and direction in the marketplace. Sabria is a graduate of Universitat
Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona with a degree in Telecommunications Engineering and conducted his thesis in distributed video coding at Purdue University, Indiana. He then joined The Boston Consulting Group, where he worked for three years

Paul Melcher brings more than 20 years of experience in photo licensing, technology breakthrough and leadership roles for
world-renowned photography companies. He was named by American Photo as one of the “100 most influential individuals
in American photography.”
Mr. Melcher is currently a strategic consultant for visual tech startups, an advisor, and the founder of Kaptur Magazine, the
first online publication solely devoted to the visual tech industry.Mr. Melcher has held top executive positions at companies such
as Stipple, Rex Features, Digital Railroad, Corbis, ImageDirect, Zymmetrical and PictureGroup.

Paul Pierson, partner and design director at Carbone Smolan Agency, uses design as a platform to tell stories, engage
audiences, and simplify the most complex messages. A believer that the most exciting design comes from sound strategy and
new technology, he has built stunning physical and digital solutions for high profile clients such as Morgan Stanley, Credit
Suisse and W Hotels & Residences.
Paul recently worked with the Boston Consulting Group to reinvent their entire global photography system using user

Peter Krogh is a photographer, author, publisher, and cloud services product architect. He’s worked as a commercial
photographer for 30 years, helping clients like PBS tell their stories. He served on the ASMP Board of Directors and as its Digital
Standards and Practices chair.
In 2005 Peter wrote The DAM Book, Digital Asset Management for Photographers (O’Reilly), which has been published in four
languages and cemented his reputation as a leading authority on asset management and workflow. He is a principle author
and past project director for the dpBestflow.org website, funded by the Library of Congress. In 2012 Peter received the Library
of Congress’s NDSA Individual Innovation Award for his work helping photographers understand the digital photo ecosystem.
In 2013, he created DAM Useful Publishing to release his own books, and those of other independent authors. He currently

Sarah Fix, VP Creative and Member of Blend Images, LLC, is responsible for overall creative direction, marketing and
photographer development. She began her career in stock photography in 1993 at Westlight as an Account Executive and
was promoted to become Managing Photo Editor. Westlight was acquired by Corbis in 1997, where Sarah became Manager of
Content Development and was responsible for Pan-Asian content development. In 2003, Sarah moved to Brand X Pictures

Scott Braut is Head of Content at Adobe, where he drives the overall content strategy and operations for Adobe’s Creative

of experience in the photography industry, he has written and published photo books, introduced new cameras to the world
