I chose to study at MIT because there were
small class sizes and my study could fit around
my work and personal life. Also, the accounting
degree was recognised by the New Zealand Institute
of Chartered Accountants which meant I could go
straight into the profession once I graduated. At
MIT you work on real-life situations and gain a lot
of skills that are in demand by employers.
In fact, my employers say one of the reasons they
employed me was because I had gained a lot of
practical skills at MIT; meaning I could hit the
ground running when I started working for them.
I now have the career I always wanted.

Lots of my relatives and friends are now in
their dream job after having graduated from MIT;
so that really inspired me to study here too.
My employers, the CMDHB, work closely with the
Faculty of Business and Information Technology to
ensure their courses are relevant to their specific
industry needs and say they prefer to employ MIT
graduates because they have the skills they want.
I enjoyed every moment of my time at MIT. The best
part was having real work experiences built into
my study programme so when I graduated I already
knew how to do the job I was trained to do. Also, the
staff made me feel welcome and got to know me
personally.

I came to MIT because I could study all three
disciplines of the performing arts: dance, music
and acting. It’s a really good place to build on your
talents and skills, and you also gain knowledge of
the industry. Everything about the course is great but
what really stands out is getting to work on your own
projects, plus the culture, the people, and the support
and love from peers and tutors. MIT has been a HUGE
help in getting me noticed by people in the industry
– theatre companies, the music industry, my phone
doesn’t stop ringing . . . it’s all about how you get your
name out there.

I studied hairdressing because I wanted to do
something creative where I would get to work with
heaps of different people. I chose MIT because of the
excellent facilities. Every day was different and always
interesting thanks to my amazing tutors! My favourite
part of the course was the practical work, especially
colouring and blow waving. I gained a really
awesome set of skills from MIT – these have really
helped me, especially when it comes to colour work.
My employers say I already had a lot of knowledge
when I started, and I’m eager to keep learning.

Tarragona Landscaping, New Zealand
As many people in my family work in the
horticulture industry, I was exposed to some aspects of
landscaping from an early age. I chose to pursue a career
in landscaping because it would allow me to be creative
and work with plants outdoors. My MIT qualification has
helped me achieve that dream. The study programme was
so much fun and every day was different. I loved the field
trips and learning all about landscape design. I also really
enjoyed building my own landscaped plot and learning
how to pour concrete, pave, build, read landscaping plans,
and look after plants. The tutors were always helpful and
encouraging too.

real profits. You will understand where
IT systems can provide value, how to
execute solutions in practice, and how
to integrate solutions with existing
systems in any business.
Specialist elective courses let you
choose the kind of IT specialist you will
become. You may specialise in software
development, data communication
and networking, or multimedia/web
development. Business elective courses
will help you to round out your degree
with non-IT skills relevant to the
professional environment.
Finally, you will graduate having
completed a real-world IT project for a
local business, ensuring you possess
both skills and hands-on experience
when you enter the job market. You will
leave MIT not only armed with a degree,
but also a portfolio of work as evidence
