In order to gain the true love of Allah Ta’ala and His beloved Rasul (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) we have to follow the sunnah (i.e. the way of our Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) in everything we do. It is necessary for every person to follow the sunnah throughout our lives till we finally leave this world. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has given us guidance in every step of life, be it learning, teaching, doing business, getting married, being a parent, being a child, eating, sleeping, drinking and even going to the toilet. In one Hadith, Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] has mentioned that I have left behind for you two things. As long as you hold firmly onto these two things, you will never go astray. The Book of Allah (Qur’aan) and My Sunnah. Allah Ta’ala declares in the Holy Qur’aan; “Say if you love Allah Ta’ala, then follow me (Hadhrat Muhammad [sallallahu alayhi wasallam), Allah Ta’ala will love you and forgive your sins.” From this verse of the Qur’aan we understand that by following the sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] we will attain two great benefits. 1. We will become the beloved of Allah Ta’ala. 2. Our sins will be forgiven. All the Sahaabaha [radi Allahu anhum] strictly followed Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] in all his mubaarak sunnats. We should try and make it a habit to learn one sunnah a week and practice upon it. We should also try and teach these sunnats to our families and friends. True success of every person lies only in following the sunnah way of Nabi [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. A true lover of Nabi [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] must follow him in every aspect of his life. May Allah Ta’ala grant us all the true love of Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). 2 Important Sunnats Every sunnah of Rasulullah [sallalahu alayhi wasallam] is important. However, two sunnats that are very important for us to practice upon, yet many of us nowadays are leaving them out completely. One sunnat is for the girls and the other for the boys. The sunnah for the boys is that at all times a male’s trouser / kurta should remain above his ankles. Nabi [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] has said: “Allah Ta’ala does not show mercy on a male who allows his trouser / kurta to flow below his ankles.” The sunnah pertaining to the girls is that at all times their hair should be covered. In madrassah, school and even out of school a girl must keep her hair covered. May Allah Ta’ala make our lives shine with the mubaarak sunn ah of Rasulullah [sallallahu alyhi wasallam]. Aameen. Two stories of the Sahabaahs’ love for the Sunnah Story No. 1 Story No. 2 Hadhrat Uthmaan’s (RA) steadfastness on the sunnah Hadhrat Huzayfah’s (RA) does not forsake the sunnah On the occasion of the treaty of Hudaybiyyah, Hadhrat Uthmaan (radi Allahu anhu) went to Makkah as a messenger of Nabi [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. He stayed in Makkah at the place of his cousin. Hadhrat Huzayfah ibn Yamaan (RA) is the conqueror of Iran. When Iran was attacked, its ruler Khosroe, invited him to his court for negotiations. When he entered the court, food was served to him which he began to eat. Whilst eating, a morsel of food fell onto the ground. When he left to meet the leaders of Makkah, his izaar (lower garment) was well above his ankles reaching upto half of his shins. It was the order of Rasulullah [salllahu layhi wasallam] that every male should keep his izaar above his ankles. The cousin of Hadhrat Uthmaan [radi Allahu anhu] told him that the leaders of Makkah regard it as a mark of honour to have their trousers hanging below their ankles. Thus, he suggested to Hadhrat Uthmaan [radi Allahu anhu] to lower his izaar otherwise the leaders of Makkah would look down upon him and the meeting with the Makkan leaders would be spoilt. On hearing this advice, Hadhrat Uthmaan (radi Allahu anhu) gave this decisive reply, “No, I cannot lower my izaar, because the izaar of my master is like this.” It is the teaching of our Nabi [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] that on such occasions the morsel should be picked up, cleaned and eaten, as it is Allah’s gift of sustenance and none knows which part of the food contains Allah's special blessing. When Hadhrat Huzayfah (RA) intended to pick up the fallen morsel from the ground, a man sitting by his side tried to stop him from that act, as it might degrade him in the eyes of the King and his courtiers. In reply, Hadhrat Huzayfah (RA) uttered this wonderful sentence: "Should I give up the Sunnah of my beloved Nabi for the sake of these fools? I cannot do that, irrespective of what the Iranians think of me.” He did not care how the leaders of Makkah would behave. Under no circumstances was he prepared to give up the Sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. Look at the steadfastness of the noble Sahaabah on the sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. Bringing alive a dead sunnah Honour, dignity and respect can only be achieved by strictly adhering to the noble sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. Rasulullah [sallallahu alyhi wasallam] has mentioned, “Whosoever brings alive even one of my sunnats in a time when my ummah is involved in corruption and evil, i.e. will be granted the reward of a hundred martyrs.” He who loves my Sunnah, loves me and he who loves me will be in Jannah with me [Hadith]. Once again we have entered the month of Rabiul Awwal. Last year with the grace and mercy of Allah Ta’ala, many pupils recited abundant Durood Shareef during the month of Rabiul Awwal. Al-hamdulillah we all managed together to recite 30 269 940 duroods. May Allah Ta’ala accept it and make it a means of attaining His everlasting pleasure. Aameen. Insha Allah, once again this year with true love in our hearts for Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] and complete ikhlaas (sincerity) let us try and reach a target of FIFTY MILLION DUROODS upon our beloved Rasul [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. Let us once again also try and get our parents, brothers and sisters, neighbours and families involved in this durood recitation. The more durood we recite, the more barakah (blessings) Allah Ta’ala will grant us in our homes. Insha Allah. Daily record the number of durood that you have recited on the ‘Rabiul Awwal Chart’ and hand it in to your Mu’allim /ah at the end of the month. The Ta’limi Board will Insha Allah do a final count and inform everyone of the total number of duroods that all of us together have recited upon Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] this year. Please ensure that when reciting durood shareef, we recite with great respect. May Allah Ta’ala make this a means of us getting into the habit of reciting durood shareef daily throughout the year. May He accept this little effort and make it a means of attaining His everlasting pleasure. May He make this durood shareef a means of gaining the intercession of our beloved Nabi [sallallaahu alyhi wa sallam]. Aameen. Parents Column Dear Parents Assalaamu alykum warahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu Al--hamdulillah this months theme, “The importance of practicing the sunnah.” All our children will be taught the Al importance of the sunnah at the madrasah. Bringing the mubaarak sunnah into our lives is a true sign of our deep love that we have for our noble Master Sayyidinah Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. Let us help our children to practice and inculcate the sunnah into their lives by encouraging them to practice on every sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam]. Daily teach them one sunnah from the book “100 sunnats”. This book is available at your local madrasah. Daily after supper read out one sunnah and encourage them to practice upon it. Remember, the true upbringing of our children lies on the shoulders of the parents. Once again the children as well as their families have been challenged to recite 50 million durood shareef during this month of Rabiul Awwal. Please try and encourage them to recite as much as possible. Was Salaam Dear Children Assalamu alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu.
