BULLETIN: October 2012
A message from the President:
Welcome back to everyone from all of our trips and adventured. I hope everyone had a great time and is now ready to
settle down and enjoy our wonderful weather, as the rest of the
world goes into a slow freeze.
I want to thank Betty and the board for conducting last months
meeting. If you were not there you can see in the Minutes p.2
that we will be splitting dinners between “Pot Luck” and Restaurant “Take Out”
Next month December will, of course, be our Christmas Party
see p.3. In January and February we will be getting our meals
from restaurants. March 2 will be our picnic and we will
probably bring in the meats and supplement it with “Pot Luck”
salads and desserts. April and / or May will be “Take Out” the
other “Pot Luck” and in June traditionally the club provides
the dinner. So except for the picnic you will only need to cook
one more time.
Also, I am really having a hard time with the team “Pot
Luck.”It is just too, well, American. Something that goes with
Tailgating and Square Dances. It does not belong to the rolling
Italian hills. I thought the Italians must have a much more
beautiful, lyrical, term. I have asked several people who speak
Italian and they said there was no equivalent. Joe DiFrancsco
asked his Italian Friends and they said “mangiare quel che
passa il convento" which really means to eat to make the best
of things. It is also sort of long. So lets come up with a term.
I’ll be asking at the meeting.
Have a Happy Halloween and Blessed all Saints Day,
Ciao,
Donna

Festival Italiano Anguria
(Italian Watermelon Festival)
Several weeks ago Elaine sent me these wonderful pictures. I “searched the web” to find out more about the Festival:
where it is held, when, and any other information. I found several sites with pictures but nothing else. I even searched
Google. It and Yahoo.It. If any of you know anything about this please let us know.
Members, If you have a suggestion for something you like about Italy, Italian culture or heritage. let me know. You can do the
research or send me your idea and I will research it. Donna [email protected]
