SUMMER 2008 Spend your summer with the Naperville Park District! The summer season is a great time to get out and enjoy some quality free time, and we can help! With a wide variety of sports, arts, recreation programs and events, we have something for everyone in your family. National City has joined the family of the Naperville Park District as our Athletic Park Partner and we thank them for their continued support. We invite you to take a look at the upcoming program offerings for the summer and register by visiting www.napervilleparks.org or calling 630-848-5000. Please note that registration is currently in progress for some of the programs in this flyer. We encourage you to visit our website for additional information on other programs and events being offered, or refer to our Summer 2008 Program Guide which will be delivered from April 19-22. The pass is $60 and provides the pass holder with the ability to bring up to two additional guests. This pass is available for purchase only until May 10. Centennial Beach is open from May 24-September 1. Groups will be responsible for their own project pick up and distribution. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. HOW TO REGISTER FOR SUMMER 2008 PROGRAMS! We encourage our customers to register online for Park District programs using our fast and easy RecEnroll registration system. Online registration for the summer 2008 session begins Wed., May 7 at noon. Log on to www.napervilleparks.org today and select the “Click Here for Online Registration” button to get started. Registrants will need to have a PIN and bar code number in advance to use the online system. Hard copy registration forms will be accepted from the first day of Program Guide delivery for processing on May 7. Forms will be entered in the order they were received. Athletic Park Partner, 2008-2011 4 Children’s Lunch-Hour Entertainment Pack a lunch, bring sunglasses and an umbrella and then join the fun on the Riverwalk near the Warming House. You’ll be treated to a variety of exciting performances, including magic acts, juggling shows, musical productions, and more. Performances are geared to the young and young at heart. All shows begin at noon and last approximately 40 to 45 minutes. June 10 - Ken Schultz Show The Flying Fool (aka Ken Schultz) puts on a high-energy show of wacky tricks, comedy and amazing fire-throwing, juggling feats. A master of juggling, comedy acrobatics and mime, Ken Schultz will paint a permanent smile on the faces of adults and children. June 12 – Amy Lowe Amy Lowe is a multi-award winning singer, songwriter, and storyteller; she has over 20 years experience as a performer. June 17 - Little Nashville Little Nashville is a high-energy children’s musical performance featuring the stylings of today’s country music. June 19 - Dave Rudolph’s Halloween Spooktacular Enjoy Halloween in June with a ghoulishly delightful show. Dave will entertain goblins of all ages with his fun songs and stories to raise the hair on your funny bone. July 8 – Jeanie B! Jeanie B! delivers a live show that is a dance party with young and old alike jumping to their feet and singing along. July 10– Chuck Field and Ziggy Chuck Field, a comedy ventriloquist, will entertain you with a fun program for the entire family. July 15 –Balster Magic Show Tim and Robin Balster present magic, illusion, and comedy with music, special effects and dance. July 17 – Circus Boy From Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Circus Boy blends stand-up comedy with circus skills. Friday Flings Come have some Friday fun with us! Personalized, fling-specific passes are mailed to early registrants. Those who register less than five days before an event should pick up passes at the Park District Administration Building. Children without passes will not be allowed to participate. Cancellations due to inclement weather will be made on site. Anyone purchasing a pass after June 5 must pick up from 320 W. Jackson Avenue. Sports and Games Galore - June 13 Children will play a variety of outdoor games such as t-ball, soccer, kickball, capture the flag, parachute games and variations of the game tag. Mini Kids Carnival - June 20 Step on up for a good old time. Join us in playing a number of mini carnival games, such as Bozo Buckets, ring toss, bean bag toss, candy grab, pick a duck and basketball throw. A jump around inflatable will also be part of the event. Children will take home fun prizes. Water Works - June 27 A wet and wild fun time to be had by all. We will play cold potato, bucket brigade, wet sponge toss, slip and slide and water balloon toss. Participants may wear their swim suit and bring a towel. Olympic Day - July 11 Join us in the 50 yard dash, the long jump, jump rope, shot put/disc throw, an obstacle course, high jump and a relay race. An inflatable will also be part of the event. Each child will receive an award. Mud Madness - July 18 We will create a giant mud pit just for you to play in. Games will include tug of war, limbo, steal the bacon and slip and slide. Wear old clothes and shoes because even the grand finale wash down won’t get your clothes clean. Guaranteed muddy fun for everyone! Fee: 5 $10.00(R)/$15.00(N)/single event pass $42.00(R)/$63.00(N)/season pass G O L F L E S S O N S : J U N I O R AC A D E M I E S AND JUNIOR CLINICS* Junior golf academies and clinics are six-hour programs for kids age 7-9 and 10-15 with little or no golf background. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of putting, chipping, full swing and etiquette. We recommend having a fairway wood, the 5, 7, and 9irons and a putter. Each student will receive a participation gift. Junior academies are offered May-July, Junior clinics are offered AprilOctober. G O L F L E S S O N S : PA R E N T / J R C L I N I C & G O L F * Naperbrook Golf Course offers a program for parents and children to begin a lifetime of good times together. The program includes four hours of instruction including full swing, pitching and putting. After an hour on the driving range and putting green, each group will play for an hour and a half. There will be limited golf instruction on the course. The program is for kids 7 and up. G O L F L E S S O N S : J U N I O R L E AG U E S * Springbrook and Naperbrook golf courses offer a seven-week program for youth ages 11-15 with a minimum of two years of golf experience. All participants will be pre-screened for the proper skill level the first week of the program. Those who do not meet the requirements of this program will be given a full refund. Participants in this on-course program must know and display proper golf etiquette. Participants will play nine holes and receive a meal each week; students also will receive a participation gift, and a golf rules book. *Participants should provide their own clubs and are eligible for a 10% discount on club purchases. Springbrook and Naperbrook are non-metal spike facilities. If so, bring them to Springbrook or Naperbrook golf course to enjoy some family golfing fun any day of the week! The accompanying parent(s)/guardian(s) pay $20 and children 17 and under are free! Parents/guardians are responsible for upholding all golf course policies and procedures. Family Golf begins one hour after Super Twilight. Tee time reservations are recommended. 6 Millennium Carillon at Moser Tower and Visitor Center T he 14-story-tall Moser Tower is home to the Millennium Carillon, a 72-bell instrument that began its annual summer recital series in July 2000. The Millennium Carillon and Visitor Center will reopen for visitors in May 2008. Admission is $3 for ages 5 and older; children ages 4 and under are admitted free. Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 2008 Moser Tower & Carillon tour hours of operations: The Carillon and Visitor Center will be open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. beginning Saturday, May 3 through Sunday, October 26. Friday tours will be added to the schedule beginning May 23 (the Friday of Memorial Day weekend), and run through August 29 (the Friday of Labor Day weekend). Friday tours also will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All dates and hours are subject to change due to various factors, including potential weather-related closures. June 10, 2008 Frans Haagen Kampen, NL Visitor Center: Hours of operation for the Visitor Center will be the same as the Moser Tower & Millennium Carillon hours. From within the Visitor Center (formerly known as Netzley House), directly adjacent to the tower on its west side, visitors will learn about the Carillon and area history, including the Riverwalk's creation and Centennial Beach through interactive exhibits. Patrons also will see the practice clavier and view a six-minute video highlighting "three gifts" to the community of Naperville. Admission to the Visitor Center is free.
