President’s Message
Greetings,
It has been my privilege to serve on The Shepherd's Center of Kernersville's
Board of Directors for the past four years. Several years ago, we adopted the
slogan, "Together we can…change one life at a time." During this time, I have
witnessed a significant increase in the number of volunteers, as well as a
growing commitment to our Annual Giving Campaign. The Shepherd's Center
is led by an energetic and purpose driven staff. They are highly committed to
maintaining the quality of life and welfare of those who are aging or disabled
in this community.
Non-profit organizations such as The Shepherd's Center are only as strong as the members of
communities in which they serve. We are fortunate to serve the Kernersville community. As the
aging population increases, we must likewise increase our efforts to help meet their needs. Looking
to the future, our hope is that you will continue to partner with us to change one life at a time.

Executive Director’s Message
Looking back over my 17 years with The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville, I
am humbled and inspired by the wonderful services offered daily through our
ministry to assist and enrich the lives of our neighbors who are aging or
disabled. We are continually touched by the giving spirit of this community
through both financial and volunteer support! YOU are the reason The
Shepherd’s Center continues to grow!
Getting to know our service recipients and volunteers is an absolute pleasure.
When I first came to work with The Center someone asked me which part of
my job I liked the best – working with those whom we serve or the volunteers. The answer
continues to be the same; I am constantly amazed by the human spirit and how gracefully those we
serve rise to the challenges of aging and disabilities, and I am equally amazed at how many
individuals give so much of themselves to help others. So often we learn long after something has
happened that our wonderful volunteers have gone the extra mile to make sure our service
recipients are served.
What we have achieved in 2013 is the result of the generosity of our supporters, grantors, and
volunteers. Thank each of you for helping us to improve the lives of these special individuals by
enabling their quality of life to be enhanced.
Our future success will be in our ability to maintain sufficient resources to meet the daily increasing
number of individuals we are serving. AARP reported that in 2011 the first of the baby boomer
generation turned 65, and nationally for the following 18 years boomers will be turning 65 on the
average of 8,000 per day. The “Silver Tsunami” has just begun, and the future needs will be
phenomenal to say the least.
My reward continues to come from witnessing our community helping these individuals achieve a
better quality of life, and it is an honor to be a part of this special journey!
