Kirsten Parr
At Illini Central, I have had the opportunity to work as both a 1st grade Inclusion teacher and
as the Director of Teaching and Learning, a role that I am enjoying for my third year. It has
been exciting to get to know the faculty and staff, students, and community through different
capacities. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work in the district where we live and
where our children attend school!
In my role as the Director of Teaching and Learning, I enjoy the ability to work closely with the
students, teachers, and administration in the areas of Title Services, Response to
Intervention, Curriculum and Instruction, and Assessment. I became a member of the faculty
at Illini Central Grade school in August of 2013.
This is my 3rd year serving as the Director of Teaching and Learning at Illini Central. Prior to
this position, I was a 1st grade classroom teacher.

children Charlie, Eli, and Anna keep us very busy! We love living in the country and have felt
very welcomed by the communities of Mason City, San Jose, and Easton. We were both
raised in small towns and schools and feel extremely fortunate to be able to give the same
experience to our children.
I grew up in Ashland, so living in Mason City allows for my children to be located close to both
sets of grandparents!
Our children, Charlie (12), Eli (10), and Anna (almost 7), keep us very busy! They are active
in 4-H and show Angus cattle.
In my spare time, I love to read and spend time with my family. We spend a lot of time
traveling to cattle shows.

Childhood Education. I received my Masters in Teaching and Leadership from St. Xavier
University in 2003. I am a lifelong learner, and have accumulated various courses from other
universities along the way. In 2013, I became a trained Reading Recovery teacher through
National Louis University. There is always something new to learn and different approaches
to try! My quest for knowledge led me to begin the pursuit of my administrative certificate
from the University of Illinois Springfield in 2015.

spend as much time with family and friends as I
can...never is enough! I love being able to crew for my
good friend’s hot air balloon. Such an amazing hobby
that I’m lucky enough to be involved in. So much fun to
be able to go to various hot air balloon festivals around
the state throughout the summer & fall or to just enjoy
local flights bright & early in the morning or on a nice
summer evening! I am a big shopper and always love
finding that good bargain! Also in the summers, I can
usually be found in a pool relaxing, enjoying the sun &
just being outdoors.
