summer, but will do it in a big and
widely-promoted fashion Nov. 18 at its Summerlin and Henderson
locations. A special, African-inspired
event
celebrating
BeadforLife will also be held from
5pm to 8pm Thursday, Nov. 4 at
10400 S. Eastern Ave. in
Henderson.
According to Miller, MJ
Christensen has a goal of outpacing the $20,000 and $30,000 raised
by the Pittsburgh and Seattle jewelers and selling $35,000 worth of
jewelery to benefit BeadforLife.
“If we’re going to do this, we need
to do this well,” Miller said of the
local jeweler’s commitment to
raise awareness and funds for
BeadforLife. As they head into
their November promotion, Miller
reported that they are a third of the
way to their goal.
Ranging in price from $5-$30,
jewelry offered by Beadfor Life
provides income for women and
children in Uganda and also helps
“create bridges of understanding
between impoverished Africans
and concerned world class citizens.” The pieces are crafted using beads made from colorful recycled paper. All net proceeds
from sales are invested in community development projects, according to BeadforLife representatives.
BeadforLife was founded in
2004 and has “hundreds of thousands of people worldwide
partnering with the beaders and
sharing the BeadforLife spirit by
wearing the vibrant jewelry and
talking about how to end poverty.”
The beaders in Uganda have seen
a 500-700% increase in annual income, reports the organization, and
have been able to support their
children and families with housing, health care and education. In
addition to beads, BeadforLife participants in Northern Uganda also
gather shea nuts and press into
shea butter for cosmetic items.
These are also sold online and
through partners interested in helping to provide “income, food,
medicine, school fees and hope,”
according to BeadforLife.
Miller said that her experience
in working with BeadforLife
moved her “to learn more and see
the bigger picture and ways we can
get involved beyond this event.”
Miller visited BeadforLife’s U.S.
offices in Boulder, CO and has
become an advocate for the organization in her personal life as
well.
“We feel blessed to show God’s
love,” Miller said of her work
through MJ Christensen. “We truly
serve people, not sell them,” she
said of the jeweler’s guiding philosophy.

do the impossible. Every believer
has the responsibility of finding
out what the Word of God has to
say about what is ours for the taking, as it relates to every aspect of
our being. Everyone that has truly
come to Christ has within the
power to change and overcome
each and every obstacle by faith
(Philippians 4:3).
When we began to stand on the
Word of God by faith and declare
it, change begins and the impossible becomes possible. “This is
the victory that overcometh the
world,” declares the Apostle John
in his first epistle, “even our faith.”
Faith is what produces our victory
over adversity and the works of
darkness. Each of us has been
given a measure of faith to effect
change, accomplish the will of
God for our lives, and stand against
the dark forces in the world. I want
you to know that victory is what is
promised to those who believe and
exercise what they believe by faith.
That is why we must learn to truly
stand on the promises of God (2
Corinthians 1:20) and not walk
according to what we see (2
Corinthians 5:7).
CALL 888-4726
Based on your need and the
adversity taking place in your life,
get a scripture that covers the area
that you need covered by His word
and begin to quote the promises of
God until it begins to manifest.
Beloved, I challenge you to go into
the Word of God and begin pulling the promises of God down
from heaven into your homes,
jobs, churches, marriages etc. If
you do this, you can start living
according to the faith that you have
been measured and the JudeoChristian principles and promises
in the precious Word of God.
I want to share with you how
the power of faith has benefitted
my life, because every day is a reminder of how wonderful it is to
be a child of God. I was told that I
would never survive by the attending medical team assigned to me
when the last stroke occurred in
my life at the age of 51. I have been
blessed with the continuation of
my life here on earth with a greater
realization that “to live is Christ
and to die is gain” (Philippians
1:21). I have survived two strokes
that occurred in my life within an
eight month span of time. The second stroke was the worst of the two
because it left me without the ability to swallow, which hindered my
ability to eat or drink. There was
minor paralyzation of the limbs on
the left side of my body and the
report from the doctors initially
was that I would die. When they
saw that I was not going to die (after having kept me in ICU for two
months) they began to tell me that
my quality of life would be greatly
diminished.
However, I write this today having full use of my limbs both right
and left. The lord has extended my
days having just had my fifty-sixth
birthday and I eat what I want with
the ability to swallow it just fine,
praise the name of the Lord. It was
considered a miracle by the doctors who treated me and it was
truly the work of overcoming faith.
Had I accepted their report, I can
truly say that I would not be alive
today. It was by faith (and faith in
God alone) that I am here with my
health and strength. The moment
the report came in from the doctors that I would die I began to
declare “I shall not die, but live,
and declare the works of the
LORD” (Psalm 118:7). The profession of that Word is the reason
I can share with you that faith in
the power of God and His Word
saves and changes lives. There are
far more faith experiences that I
could share with my fellow saints,
but I have chosen to share the one
that suspended me between life
and death because faith is the reason that I am alive today. The Lord
saved my life against the odds!
Even the most grim and unremitting obstacles can be overcome
through faith in God. You must
have unwavering faith in God;
therefore, stand on His word, declare it, and live every day faithfilled. In doing so, you will walk
every day in overcoming faith.

Preserving Christian Abstinence during Courtship
By Shaun Maddox
Answer Single’s Columnist
The best gift you can give to
your future wife or husband is your
purity, and this is possible only if
you have practiced Christian abstinence during courtship. For others, it’s really difficult but for those
who respect and follow the Bible,
it’s possible not to engage in sex
during courtship. To be able to
observe Christian abstinence during courtship, here are five helpful tips.
1. Read the bible and be inspired with the passages especially
on how to avoid lust and intimacy.
It is written in the Bible specifically in Hebrews 13:4 that “Marriage should be honored by all, and
the marriage bed kept pure, for
God will judge the adulterer and
all the sexually immoral.” While
you are in courtship stage, it is also
advisable to read the Bible for inspiration and spiritual support.
2. Another way to observe
Christian abstinence is to be
choosy of the things that can entertain you. Mass media can have
an impact on our values so make
sure that what you watch, listen to,
or read will not distort your thinking and character. If you want your
date to be entertained, you can
watch wholesome movies or educational programs that would even
allow your intellect to grow.
3. It’s better to go on group
dates to avoid intimacy and further
temptations. During group dates,
you can think of rewarding activities such as playing group games,
visiting historical places, or going
to church. If you need to discuss
things privately, you can go to public places such as restaurants or
parks. Through this Christian ab-

Kenton Williams built on the works of his predecessors by forming the
organizations best partnership to date with the United Way of Southern

The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas would become a United Way agency
opening doors to provide more resources to the community that they
serve. Mosley would return for a second term to restore his vision of
brotherhood and collaboration further growing the 100 to new boundaries. Recently, the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas elected their fourth
president, Brian L. Pauling who looks to start the next decade by strengthening the leadership within the organization while developing a succession plan with younger and new leaders getting more involved.

stinence is definitely possible to
achieve.
4. Have self-discipline. Once
you know how to manage yourself
and you know what is right and
wrong, you will be able to conquer
being tempted. Remember that sex
is a gift and not to be abused. Reserve this to the person you are
willing to commit to for a lifetime.
If you want to avoid the temptation of getting intimate, avoid getting close together especially in
private places.
5. Always pray to God for guidance. Everything will just follow
if you trust in Him. He knows what
is best for you. Christian abstinence will never make your life
miserable at all. It will actually
bring you to a more promising future.

New Zealand’s Rapture Ruckus Rocks Vegas
By Mandana Divanbeigi
The Answer Staff Writer
Christian musical group Rapture Ruckus rocked their first-ever
performance in Las Vegas during
the Oct. 18 Unite event at Epic
Church and shared with the crowd
a bold and definite love of Christ.
Members of the New Zealand band
weren’t always believers, though.
As the trio readily admits, it has
been an interesting road to Las
Vegas.
Brad Dring, the founder and
lead singer of Rapture Ruckus,
dedicated himself to Jesus Christ
and Christian rock in 2001. Prior
to that, “All I wanted to do with
my life was get high and surf, the
New Zealand Dream,” Dring admitted as he laughed.
Dring said, “I had dyslexia in
High School and so I dropped out.”
Luckily for the singer, he said, his
mother was a devout Christian
who shared the Word with her son
and never gave up on him. “My
mom encouraged me to do musicals. I knew how to play the drums,
so I started auditioning at the age
of 19,” Dring recounted.
Dring testifies that he met God
and surrendured to Christ in his
friend’s car. “He turned my world
around and now I’m doing what I
love to do every day,” he said.
“I feel like God called me to be
light. I’m never going to be the guy
that bashes anybody, but I just
want to be really clear on
where I stand, you know,” answered Dring when asked why he
talks about God in between songs.
Other members of Rapture
Ruckus are Michael Aitofi and
Ross Nansen. Dring and Aitofi
have wives who accompany them
on tour, along with their manager,
Matthew Waterhouse.
Aitofi, the guitar player of Rapture Ruckus, is a recent addition
to the band.
“I am actually Samoan but I
grew up in New Zealand, same as
Ross, and that’s where I met Rapture Ruckus about two years ago,”
said Aitofi.
Aitofi’s brother started playing
in the band first, about 10 years
ago, Aitofi said. “At that time, I
just studied music with them, but
I didn’t join the band until years
later,” he explained. Now, Rapture
Ruckus is an important part of
Aitofi’s life and ministry.
“We’ve got a really important
message and we’re
not afraid to share it with people
who haven’t heard it,” Aitofi said.
He added, “I grew up playing
rugby, a well-known sports game
in New Zealand. I always wanted
to either play rugby or be a rock
star. Now I get to travel and love
what I do for the right reason.”
Nansen plays the drums and is
the youngest and newest member
of the band. “I fell in love with
Rapture Ruckus two years ago at
the Parachute Music Festival and
have been with them for eight
months now,” said Nansen.
Production
manager
Waterhouse was an automation
engineer at Cirque du Soleil in
Hong Kong, China.
“The show in Hong Kong was
much like the ones here. I’ve also
done concert events in the past. I
used to run a concert in New
Zealand. I met Rapture Ruckus and
worked on a few festivals with
Brad (Dring),” said Waterhouse.
The members of Rapture
Ruckus said they’ve had awesome
experiences during many of their
shows that keep them on the Christian path. Dring recalled, “I met a
guy in prison once and played the
guitar with him. Two years later,
he came out of prison and approached me at church. We hung
out together and became friends.
“I’ve always loved Michael
Jackson, Queen and just anything
that’s massive in the stadium. I
love playing, entertaining and creating an atmosphere,” Dring said.
Rapture Ruckus was one of
eight bands performing at Unite.
Other artists included Paradigm,
Rachel Ryen Sneed and Marlin
Watson. Developed by Michael
Chapman, Unite is the music
venue at Epic Church which features a monthly “collision” of
Christian bands with proceeds benefitting various causes.
“There are more than 500
Christian bands in Las Vegas and
Unite’s purpose is to be a venue
for these artists, big or small, to get
together and perform for one
cause,” Chapman said.
