Movie Time @ Hastings War Memorial Library
Aubyn Live Theatre: Old People Are Revolting
Take your pillow & some snacks & hunker down to watch
your favourite toys come to life on screen. Visit the
Hastings Library for more info.
This event is Devon Williamson’s hilarious comedy about
seniors seeking revenge!
Once the 'makers & shakers' of their community, the
residents of Sunshine Village are now largely ignored, &
relegated to the sidelines of life. But the world is about to
find out how car salesmen, hairdressers, farmers & a
supposed High Court Judge can be!
When the city council decides to end its rates rebate for the
elderly, the pen pushers in town hall have no idea what
anarchy they are about to unleash. Using the United
Nations charter on the rights of self-determination the
residents decide to create their own independent Kingdom
& teach the wider community a lesson.
First they need to stage a revolt to get the council’s
attention & they manage to do this with spectacular style
that has to be seen to be believed. The resulting chaos &
shenanigans draw the attention of the local NZ &
international media.
Bursting with a cast of wonderfully eccentric & believable
characters & crazy shenanigans this play is great fun for
the cast & is brilliantly funny entertainment for audiences
from start to finish.
The Old People Are Revolting! is one show that well
deserves to go on your "must see" list.

Aubyn Live Theatre: Old People Are Revolting
This event is Devon Williamson’s hilarious comedy about
seniors seeking revenge!
Once the 'makers & shakers' of their community, the
residents of Sunshine Village are now largely ignored, &
relegated to the sidelines of life. But the world is about to
find out how car salesmen, hairdressers, farmers & a
supposed High Court Judge can be!
When the city council decides to end its rates rebate for
the elderly, the pen pushers in town hall have no idea
what anarchy they are about to unleash.

EXquisIT Exhibition (until 16 July)
Titled ‘EXquisIT,’ the 2 week exhibition will show a range
of works from EXIT – a collective of graduates from EIT’s
acclaimed visual art and design degree.
This, their 7th exhibition, will see 15 members of the 51strong collective coming together to present works
spanning a variety of genres – including painting,
sculpture, mixed media, photography & printed
materials. Coordinators of this year’s exhibition, Erica
Stephens & Sophie Watkins say with group diversity, there
is something for everyone. “The standard is high but not
the prices,” says Sophie.
Along with the coordinators, fellow EXIT members
Kathleen Arthurs & Amber Davison will curate the
exhibition while graphic designer Holly Cowan will produce
promotional materials.
Other exhibitors showing are Vonda Christensen, Sharon
Wrigley, Makiko Smith, Martina Magee, Emanuel Dunn,
Fraser Duncan, Eve Kireka, Rin Lundall, Pagan Moon, Pita
Kire & Raewyn Paterson.
Alongside the high quality exhibition pieces, the upcoming
show will also include a ‘cash & carry’ table, which will
include smaller works from the artists, ranging in price
from $10-$70. The cash & carry concept was borne from
the idea of giving both artists & the public the chance to
present & purchase works with a more affordable price
tag.
Formed in 2011, EXIT offers a way for former students to
stay connected & provides a vehicle to promote their
works. The name EXIT refers to the fact that the artists are
ex-EIT, & exhibitions are often named around the word EXIT, EXIST, CO-EXIST & now EXquisIT.

The Cubic & Structural Evolution Project: Olafur
Eliasson (until 28 August)
The cubic structural evolution project, 2004, is a hands-on
installation by Danish-Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson.
Comprising of 1000s of pieces of white Lego bricks
scattered on a large table, the work invites Gallery visitors
to become ‘architects’ by using the Lego to create
endlessly re-forming structures limited only by
imagination.
Towering cityscapes emerge out of the rubble of Lego
bricks & constantly evolve as new visitors contribute to the
work through construction, modification, destruction & reconstruction – processes inherent to the lifecycle of any
metropolis.

Restless Idiom: James Cousins (until 31 July)
James Cousins’ painting practice pivots around questions
of how a painting might function: how do we understand
the status of an image? What systems guide our
understanding? What processes could be used to disrupt
these assumptions? Restless Idiom is a selection of
Cousins’ recent work from between 2014–2015.
Hastings City Art Gallery, Eastbourne St, Hastings

Tēnei Tonu can be interpreted as “always here” & this new
exhibition shares stories of those who have always been
here – tangata whenua. These are the kaitiaki custodians
not only of this land, but also of the connections to
whakapapa genealogy & to culture. Taonga on display will
include a 9 metre waka that was gifted to the museum in

Lalique (until 2 Oct 2016)
As a young man, René Jules Lalique revolutionised
jewellery with his opulent Art Nouveau designs. Then at
middle age, he shifted his focus to glass & became the
most celebrated glass maker of the Art Deco period.
Elegant forms, lavish ornamentation, & an enduring love
of nature are common threads that run though Lalique’s
extensive output spanning more than 6 decades.
While his handcrafted jewellery was characterised by
sinuous line & a high level of detail, Lalique’s glass vases
embody the simplified forms of the modern age, in which
the machine was embraced & methods of mass production
refined. An exhibition of vases by René Lalique from the
Jack C Richards Collection.
MTG Hawkes Bay, Tennyson St, Napier
10.00am – 5.00pm
$10.00 per adult (museum entry)
