Term1 - Week 3
P/1/2 CLASSROOM
We had a great first full week back, lots of energy and
smiles which were lovely to see!
This week we will be looking at the
sound a;
ants on apples a, a, a.
Our writing focus for this week is
making sure we have our letters sitting
on the line and we only use capital letters when they
are required.
Tuesday was our special swimming session where our
Preps got the chance to come and experience
swimming at school!
In Maths this week we will be focusing on number.
Preps will be aiming to understand numbers to 20,
One’s to 100 and Two’s will be focusing on counting
sequences that are increasing and decreasing.
Remember: MARC books for Wednesday
Elsie worked hard on this narrative. It has an
introduction, problem and resolution:
The Fire
One day Bow the dog and Elsie were
eating their sandwich. Bow stole her
sandwich. Then Elsie smelled smoke.
They ran outside. It was coming from
town. Their Mum ran them down to town.
There was a fire. There was a little girl in
a house. Bow ran in. Elsie screamed “no
Bow”. Bow ran as fast he could. Bow led
the little girl out of the fire then the
firemen came and put out
the fire.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE:
In light of the recent hoax threatening phone calls to
Victorian schools over the last two weeks we would like to
confirm that our school has not received such a call but
we wanted to inform you that, like all schools, we have an
emergency management plan in place for situations like
this, and we practise it throughout the year. Those
schools which did receive a threatening call enacted their
emergency management plans and they worked well.
The safety and wellbeing of our students is always our top
priority. If you have any questions please contact the
Principal, David Tyler.
Every term our school holds emergency response drills.
Due to these current events, we held our Off Site
evacuation drill today with the Toora Police in attendance.
GRADE 2/3 CLASSROOM
Homework
Student were given a special homework task last night.
The challenge was to do something for someone at
home to make them smile and say 'thank you’.
(Without asking or promoting them to do so!). I’m
proud to say a good number of our student successfully
completed the challenge. Apparently, one of our grade
2 students cleaned up the breakfast dishes! I wish that
happened at my house. :)
Spelling Program
Follow pre testing on Tuesday students have a list of 5
words to practice with at home. The words are in there
small spelling book which should travel in the home
reader pouches. (We are awaiting a supply of the new
pouches for some of our grade three students.

Grade 4/5/6 CLASSROOM
Over the last week in the 4/5/6 class we have
been learning about homophones and hyperbole.
We have also started doing some Artwork for the
Foster Show. Some people are doing drawings
and some are making Robots out of old computer
parts. By Zane and Isaac.
SCHOOL STUDENT STEERING COMMITTEE
Tuesday was the first meeting of our new Toora
PS Student Steering Committee. We began by
looking at data from some student surveys to try
and identify some areas in which we can improve
as a school.
Our students have already come up with some
great ideas. We will be meeting at the same time
next week, Tuesday 11:30am for about half an
hour and would love some parents to come along
and get involved. Let me know if you’re
interested!
Thanks, David
SCHOOL COUNCIL
We will hold our first School Council meeting of the year next Thursday 18th February at 4:00pm. The Annual
General Meeting will be held at our March meeting. This year we have two positions vacant on School Council for
a Term of two years. School Councillors play a very big role in the direction and running of Toora Primary School.
If you would like further information please speak to a current School Council member or Mr David Tyler.
Nomination forms are available from the Admin Office.
CAMPS SPORTS & EXCURSION FUND
The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps ensure that no student misses out on the opportunity to join their
classmates for important, educational and fun activities. It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the
Government's commitment to breaking the link between a student's background and their achievements. CSEF
will be provided to eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.
If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF.
A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the
school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.
The annual CSEF amount per student is: $125 for primary school students $225 for secondary school students
Contact the school office to obtain a CSEF application form or download from the CSEF website
PARENTS & FRIENDS ASSOCIATION (PFA)
NEWS
Parent & Friends Association first meeting of the year - Friday the 12th February at 8:30am - 9:30am in the school
meeting room.
We will be discussing:
- School BBQ
- Toora Pear Party Stall
- Foster PS Fete Stall
- Looking at a fundraising calendar for the year
Annual General Meeting - 26th February at 8:30am. Nominations will be taken for the PFA roles of President,
Secretary, Treasurer & general committee members, so it is a great way for people to become involved with our
Parents & Friends Association and have involvement with their child's school.
It is our hope that all parents consider themselves members of our PFA and as such will assist its activities when
and where they can. Parents and Friends Association has traditionally held both a fundraising and social role for
our school community. A very exciting fundraising proposal is currently being written up that will not only benefit
our school but the wider Toora Community. (Watch this space!)
Please watch the term calendar for times of meetings. Alternatively, the PFA & School Facebook updates for
upcoming events and other ways in which you can be involved.
Services provided include our fabulous Mother's Day and Father's Day stalls and vital fundraising (Trivia Night
2015) to support continual improvement of materials and equipment for our students.
