Everyone who knows a Scout has witnessed the values
that Scouting instills, yet the 25,000 Scouts in our
community represent only 12% of our youth.
Funding is essential to increase Scouting’s impact. Every
dollar of your donation stays local and extends Scouting to
more young people here in northwest Oregon and
southwest Washington.
“The Friends of Scouting campaign is the central
fundraising activity of Scouting. Please join me in
supporting this great cause of developing kids!” – Jake
Nichol, CEO, Leatherman Tool Group. Let’s all make a
difference and become Friends of Scouting today.

Plan Your Units Program
“If you fail to plan then you plan to fail”. It is time to
conduct your annual program plan. Packets with
resources and calendars were handed out at the May
Roundtable. Sit down and map out your monthly unit
activities, secure facilities, assign duties, and get ready for
FUN! Most importantly develop a unit budget and
spending plan. Each unit type has a PowerPoint
program available to help them plan. Don’t forget to plan
your budgets. Go to www.cpcbsa.org/planning for more

amazing turnout, with a majority of the Troops able to
attend. Thanks to you guys, we are one step closer to
getting our Merit Badge Counselors trained, and registered. We appreciate all your time, efforts, and questions
in making helping making the Thunderbird District

Changes coming to the Cub Scout
program in 2015
Beginning with the 2015/2016 program year the Academics & Sports Program will go away, and with it the
belt loops and pins which support that optional part of
the Cub Scout program. The volunteer task force, pursuing its objective to simplify advancement in Cub
Scouts, recommended that the activities of the most popular belt loops be BUILT INTO the core activities of
Cub Scout advancement.
You can see info on the new program at scouting.org/
programupdates, it is built around a series of adventures. Each adventure is roughly three den meetings
worth of content, themed but multidisciplinary (touching
on multiple program objectives –character, citizenship,
etc). To earn ones badge of rank a boy must complete
seven adventures (mix of defined and elective). The
progress recognition device for Tiger – Bear is an
“adventure loop” or “adventure pin” for Webelos/Arrow
of Light. Each rank has a number of electives to support
a boy’s further involvement and year-round programs. These also are supported by adventure loops/
pins.
The result is that each of the ranks is structured and recognized in the same manner (versus the current differences by rank). The task force feels strongly that this
will make the den leader more effective at quality program delivery if he/she is not having to relearn program
structure with each rank.
