He qualified in medicine from London University and practiced as a physician for many years. Dr Chai established and managed his family’s portfolio of farms in Canada and Australia and currently supervises the group’s real estate, hotel and restaurant portfolio. The family have bought and sold numerous properties and developments under Dr Chai’s aegis; current holdings include Inverlochy Castle Hotel, with its Michelinstarred restaurant, Rocpool Reserve and Blanefield in Scotland, and diverse properties across the world. Norbert Lieder has worked in the hospitality industry for 23 years. He did his apprenticeship and graduated from hotel school in his native Hamburg, Germany. Subsequently he worked in management for Kempinski and Hilton International, and at the Datai in Malaysia. He held general manager positions at hotels in Asia, the Caribbean and Scotland before becoming GM of Inverlochy Castle Hotel. Under his stewardship, Inverlochy has been transformed to being “The Best Hotel in Europe” according to the respected Travel & Leisure magazine and has won numerous other awards. Profitability has similarly been transformed. Lieder is now in charge of all the properties owned and managed in the ICMI portfolio. John Green has worked in the hospitality industry for the last 20 years. After graduating from university he began his sales & marketing career with Conrad Hotels, then moved into managerial positions with Four Seasons & Regent Hotels, and The Landmark London. He was general manager at The Hempel for three years prior to setting up John Green Communications (JGC) in 2004. John has an extensive knowledge across all market segments and together with his team is focused on business development within the portfolio. John brings one of the industry’s foremost international sales teams to ICMI and works closely across the world with Norbert on the marketing front. Albert Roux, OBE, is one of the world’s most renowned, and influential chefs. In 1967, he and his younger brother Michel opened Le Gavroche, in Mayfair, Britain’s first ever Michelin-starred restaurant. Albert still oversees operations at what is now a legendary, twoMichelin-starred institution. He began Albert Roux consultancy in the mid-1980s and started working with Inverlochy Castle in 2005. He now works closely with ICMI, creating concepts and menus, helping recruit brigades and staff and bringing his peerless standards to the kitchens. The acclaimed cuisine at both Rocpool Reserve and Inver Lodge Hotel has been developed and overseen by Albert. Darius Sanai is Editorial Director of Condé Nast Contract Publishing, overseeing a number of luxury titles created by the world’s foremost magazine publishing house. He has launched eight magazines at Condé Nast. A multilingual former newspaper foreign correspondent, and educated at Westminster School and Oxford University, he commentates on the luxury and travel industries for a number of publications. He also runs his own branding and marketing consultancy, and advises private clients on matters ranging from online strategy to wine purchasing. He sits on the boards of a number of companies in the hospitality and travel industries. Kerry Watson has been involved with Inverlochy Castle since she was 12. Her career has encompassed living and working in Denmark and Australia and managing a Relais & Chateaux hotel in Scotland. She joined Inverlochy Castle in 2005, was appointed GM of Rocpool in 2008, and to her current position in 2010. She is a much-loved face among ICMI’s guests and runs operations with quiet efficiency. inverlochy castle, Scottish Highlands Part of the ICMI Collection Inverlochy Castle is located amidst the scenic foothills of Ben Nevis overlooking its own loch. Built in 1863 by the first Lord Abinger, the castle was a private residence until 1963. Queen Victoria herself visited in 1873 and commented in her diaries ‘I never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot’.
