Choptank Electric couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the summer than to travel to Washington, D.C. for Youth Tour. Youth Tour was from Sunday, June 15, through Thursday, June 19. Choptank Electric had 25 students apply, and five high school junior students were selected. Those five were Omar Al-Ghusbi and Leah Miles from North Caroline High School, Alison Duck from Parkside High School, Rose Adelizzi from James M. Bennett High School, and Grant Richardson from Snow Hill High School. During the trip to D.C., our participants took a boat ride on the Potomac, visited the Newseum, the Smithsonian, the National Archives, and the Udvar-Hazy Museum, enjoyed a night tour of the D.C. monuments, saw “The Lion King” live at the Kennedy Center, experienced a congressional visit with Congressman Andy Harris. Since 1964, the nation’s electric cooperative utilities have sponsored more than 50,000 high school juniors and seniors to visit their U.S. congressional delegations, learn from energy and grassroots government education sessions, and sightsee in the nation’s capital. This year marked Youth Tour's 50th year traveling to D.C. and next year will mark Choptank Electric's 50th year of participation in the Youth Tour program!
