2 GVKC General Membership Meeting – 12/14/15 Members Present: Letitia Hope, Marcy Kraus, Gini Denninger, Kris Fletcher, Ophelia Lehman, Pat Roach, Frank Welton, Sonny Kurtz, Sharon Aceto, Audrey Thomas, E. Heidi Alati, Susan Ratliffe, Steve Barbash, Holly Cook Guests Present: Harley Almond, Jeanette Burke, Todd Tarzia The General Membership Meeting was called to order at 8:11pm after everyone helped themselves to our holiday party food. There were no corrections to the minutes. Guest Introductions: Todd Tarzia and Jeanette Burke introduced themselves. They are attending their second meeting. Todd and Jeanette have a seventeen-­‐month old Great Dane which they are learning to show in conformation. We welcomed Kris Fletcher’s granddaughter Harley to her second holiday party. She has been showing dogs for three years. Genesee Valley Kennel Club 3 President’s Report: Holly provided the AKC with a site map and is currently working on the contract with Bill Gray’s Iceplex for the 2016 show (6/24/16-­‐6/26/16). We will have three rinks available to us at next year’s show. The walk through which was held in November resulted in good feedback from those present. Holly brought sign up sheets to the meeting and asked members to indicate how they can help at the 2016 show. If you were not able to attend the December meeting or did not have a chance to sign up at the meeting, please be sure to let Holly know of your interest and availability. Gini volunteered to serve as the emergency coordinator for the show. She will plan to take a CPR refresher course prior to June. The emergency plan for AKC has already been prepared. The Boxer Club has committed to us for an independent specialty on the Friday of our show weekend. The GSDC has also committed. The Afghan Club is in the process of researching their participation. Holly has been made aware of a possible trailer for purchase. Recording Secty (Julie): Absent Treasurer (Yelena): Absent Holly collected annual dues from those present. Corresponding Secty (Marcy): Marcy announced that the Club’s AKC member dues in the amount of $25.00 are due no later than January 1st. She provided Yelena with the invoice at the November meeting. Marcy shared an announcement from the Elmira Kennel Club about their upcoming 3/13/16 match at Southside High School. Pre-­‐Entries must be received by March 11. For further information visit Elmira Kennel Club’s Facebook page. Marcy reminded club members that their dues should be submitted to Yelena by January 1st. The Club received a notice from the IRS asking for our updated address. Marcy will follow-­‐up and provide Yelena’s address. Delegate’s Report (Gini): Will be distributed as a separate document. Handling Class (Steve): Class will be cancelled the next two weeks due to the holiday. The last class had five attendees which just covers the cost of the rent. Due to the size of the current space, Steve would like to arrange a visit to the possible new location which was proposed by JoAnn. He will contact her to look at the space in Henrietta. For now, class will continue to be held in Victor. Genesee Valley Kennel Club 4 Membership (Marcy): No report Website (Kris): No report Nominations (Marcy): Steve made a motion to cast one vote in the name of the secretary to accept the 2016 slate of candidates. Gini seconded. All in favor. Congratulations and thank you to the 2016 officers and board of directors. Old Business: Holly received word that the Tonawanda Club plans to hold a show at the Albion Fairgrounds during the 2016 Labor Day weekend. The show was cancelled in 2015. They are interested in talking with the GVKC about a possible partnership in 2017. They agreed to attend our 2016 show. Kris announced that she now has two live rats for her Barn Hunt practice site. The next session will be held on January 23rd at 1pm. She is looking into organizing a seminar at her home later in the spring. Contact Kris if you would like to make arrangements to come out with a dog to practice. New Business: Sharon Aceto inquired as to the rules regarding lifetime membership. She became a member in July 1991. Marcy verified after our meeting that the Club voted in 2006 to establish a lifetime membership category for those who have maintained membership in good standing for 25 years or longer: “Members, who have maintained continuous good standing for 25 years, shall
be deemed Life members with waiver of basic dues. (Passed 6/12/2006)”
Gini proposed we invite some legislative aides to one of our upcoming meetings for an educational
program. Pat suggested we look to partner with another organization that’s holding a legislative event.
There was strong interest in these recommendations.
Holly suggested we look into holding an event on June 24th which is our specialty day.
Gini proposed the idea of an art show for children in conjunction with our dog show. It could be held in
the lobby of the Iceplex. Local “celebrities” could be invited to judge the event. Gini offered to
research and plan an event for the 2017 show, and possibly a small pilot for the 2016 show. A potential
theme is “My favorite breed.” Let Gini know of ideas and if you are willing to help.
The general membership meeting adjourned at 10pm so that participants could enjoy the gift exchange.

Sharon Aceto and Frank Welton’s Bouvier “Bouvaces All Eyes on Me” took her class and was BOS
on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Syracuse Dog Show in November. She then went to the
West Springfield, MA show for two days and took the breed on Saturday. She was handled by Frank.
Susan Ratliffe’s Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier “Milo” took breed over specials at the recent West
Springfield, MA. He is just six-months-old.
Audrey Thomas’ Alaskan Malamute “Rocky,” picked up five single points and was also best of
breed. He will come back out in the spring.
