Genesee Valley Kennel Club 2 Club Meeting
GVKC May 9th Meeting Minutes Members attending: Marcy Kraus, Susan Ratliffe, Bruce Fisher, Sonny Kurtz, Audrey Thomas, Kris Fletcher, Martha Ihrman, Holly Cook, JoAnn Morgan, Frank Welton, Ophelia Lehman, Pat Roach, Marcia Noble, Letitia Hope, Sharon Aceto, Yelena Kuznetsova, Gini Denniger, Julie Jackson-‐Ray Guests attending: Jim Noble The General Membership Meeting was called to order at 7:35pm. Holly called for any corrections to the March and April minutes. No corrections offered and a motion to accept the minutes as submitted proposed by Gini, 2nd by Sonny, and approved by members. Holly circulated a list of payment received for catalog ads in the 2016 show catalog. Yelena is present to collect money for 2016 catalog ads at this time. President’s Report: Holly impressed on members that while the June Show is on the immediate horizon, it is very important that club members consider, at this time the direction of the club. Holly mentioned revision of the breeder’s guide, continuing to offer handling class to the community, and community education. Genesee Valley Kennel Club 3 Treasurer: Yelena reported the 2015 Tax were completed and submitted on time. She was notified that the club’s NYS Sales Tax Certification was due to expire and needed to be renewed to avoid steep penalties. She submitted the application for NYS Tax certification on line. Yelena provided a handout to members of GVKC Profit and Loss January 1 – May 9 2016. Total Liabilities and Equity $21,690.68. Handling Class: Several areas of concern. Typically, handling class would relocate to the Barbash residence in late spring. Club members reported this was an ideal situation in many ways. It was outdoors, no charge, adequate space and very enjoyable. Steve is at home yet still regaining his strength and it is unclear if using the Barbash residence is possible. Currently the handling class is well attended (15-‐20), at Barks and Recreation on School St in Victor. The number of people attending easily offsets the rental fee. JoAnn recommends considering Country Max. She states a second location would very likely involve new people in handling class, which may result in increased membership and it would increase the club’s presence in the Rochester community. Gini proposed a motion to pursue country Max as a handling site, 2nd by Martha and approved by members. Club members extended a huge thank you to Sandy for shouldering the responsibility of handling class in Steve’s absence. Sandy will pursue the option of using the Barbash location and JoAnn will follow-‐up with Country Max as a second site. Sunshine: JoAnn reported Ann and Steve Barbash continue to be the club’s focus. Steve is at home with the aid of his son, Micah, and Ann continues her stay at the Jewish Nursing Home. Support with meals by giving a $50 gift card from Tops was proposed by Gini, 2nd by Bruce and approved by members. A second gift card will be sent to Ann when she returns home. A thank you card from the club to Sandy for her support with handling class will be sent. Telephone: Martha reports an increase in calls inquiring about exhibiting and the new show location. Sonny reports she has received calls about designer dogs. She provides general education that is focused on how to locate a healthy dog. Discussion about putting this information in the website a possibility however, there still remains a number of people in the general public who do not use the internet and are very dependent on telephone contact. Gini offered to assist with locating appropriate pamphlets from AKC that could be sent out as a follow-‐
up to phone calls. Website: Kris reported the premium list will be posted on the GVKC website. People will be able to download forms related to the June Show. Corresponding Sec: Marci reported the club that it is once again time to nominate persons for the Distinguished Serve Award in Performance, Conformation and Companion. Marci also circulated a flyer sent to her about a Kennel for sale in Scranton PA. Discussion of nominations; Michael Pesare was proposed by Susan Ratliffe for the outstanding influence he has had on his breed. 2nd by Pat, and approved by the members present. AKC Delegate: Gini will pass on the 15 page Annual AKC Report to report. Due to the length of the report it will not be included in the newsletter. Please contact Julie at 585 899-‐0202 if you are unable to access the report either at AKC website or GVKC website. Genesee Valley Kennel Club 4 Show Report: 1. Holly requests people working on different aspects of the show list the things needed to complete their jobs. Submit your list to Holly, as it is time to either rent or order supplies for the show. 2. Holly reported there was an excellent job done with Ads. Approximately $1000 of income from the sale of Ad space in the show catalog. Holly circulated a list of Ad’s and the money collected thus far and encouraged everyone to pay. There are two agencies that have paid but no AD submitted. Until the Ad’s are located and confirmed she will not bank the money. The deadline for submitting an Ad is Friday, May 13th 12 noon. JoAnn suggested GVKC place an AD in the Pet Saver and Tops. The cost is minimal and hopefully will bring the public to the show. 3. The large banner flag for the show was on display. Holly encouraged people to put signage on the needs list and have signs professionally done. The signs can be used another year. Marci suggested a professional sign promoting membership to GVKC. 4. Stan was not present to discuss Vendors Holly will touch base with Stan. 5. Hospitality: Judge’s food needs to be catered. Empire food truck subcontracted by the Dome is able to serve breakfast and lunch however; the judges need to be able to eat lunch in a timely fashion. Holly suggested having lunch be catered by Wegmans. Dome is not allowing other food trucks. Holly will check into having hot dogs and burgers available. Jo Ann will check on Reed’s Ice Cream Truck. If Reed’s is not available people can purchase ice cream at the ice cream shop adjacent to the Dome. Julie will locate the flowers used at the winner’s circle. Ideally, a garden store will donate the flowers to minimize expense. 12 hospitality baskets will be made up by Julie to provide to judges. Pat proposed the club cover a rental fee for the plants if needed, 2nd by Sonny and approved by members. 6. Next Show Meeting is May 31st at 7:30pm at St. Lutheran’s Church in Pittsford. Old Business: First Meet the Breed this coming weekend. JoAnn reports that Country Max is including a Meet the Breed starting at 2:15 to 3:30 in the tent area at the new Country Max store in Henrietta. Members encouraged to bring their dog for a Meet and Greet with the public. The area under the tent will be taped off to restrict general public pets into the tent area. Marci will send out an email to members. Ex-‐pens could be used to help secure an area for the Meet and Greet. New Business GVKC Symposium May 22nd:” Anti-‐Dog Legislation Coming Your Why? What To Do About It! Gini reports the panel of speakers are traveling from far and wide. The AKC is supporting this symposium. Gini is sending the information to other breed organizations that would find the information very valuable. The flyer is available on the GVKC website and can be downloaded. Questions? Match: Susan Ratliffe reports that four dates are available for the match; 9/17, 9/18, and 9/ 24 and 9/25. Holly will speak with Rush Fire Department to secure the date selected by club members. Bruce motioned Saturday 9/17 be selected for a fall match, 2nd by Susan and approved Genesee Valley Kennel Club 5 by members. Susan encouraged members to recommend judges for the event. There was discussion on including Obedience and Rally as part of the match. The obedience and rally equipment is at Kris’s. Cheryl Wood was not present however sent an email to Holly and asked Holly to present the idea of a CAT lure course being set up. There is no training required for a dog to participate in the course. Susan proposed a motion to investigate the possibility of including a lure course at the match. 2nd by Ophelia. Holly will look into the possibility of setting up a lure courser at the match site.
