UK’s largest
Green facility will convert refuse into electricity
By Martin Ford
[email protected]
A STATE-OF-THE-ART multimillion pound power plant is
set to be built in Hoddesdon.
The “advanced thermal
treatment” plant in Ratty’s
Lane will be fuelled by waste.
The £60 million project is
the largest of its kind in the

anaerobic digester, is part of a
project granted planning permission in 2011, on a site
opposite the existing gas
power station in Hoddesdon.

petition, as neighbouring parish councils and Epping
Forest District Council cited
concerns over possible air pollution, contamination and
increased traffic. However,
Broxbourne Borough Council
backed the scheme and it was

approved by Hertfordshire
County Council.
The plant will create more
than 110 engineering and construction jobs during construction and 17 full-time
positions once operational in
the first half of 2017.
Mr Ayling added: “When we
visited some facilities, we
found there are so many procedures in place to ensure the
discharge is a lot cleaner than
