Hello Corvette Family!
Join NCRS Today!
We attended, and are reporting this month on the Mecum
Houston, Mecum Kansas City, Leake Dallas, and Barrett
Jackson West Palm Beach, FL.
May will include Auctions America in Auburn, IN and the HUGE
Mecum Indy Auction. We will be attending both.
We very much appreciate the work that Mr. Bill Kendrick
did at the Houston and Leake sale. He also assisted with
condition reports at Houston. Bill knows his Corvettes. He
currently owns a 63 and 68 Convertible, 2008 Roadster.
Also assisting this month with conditions at Kansas City is Mr.
Robert Hoffman. I met Robert and his wife at the Chicago
Mecum sale, and he is kind enough to help us out when we are
unable to attend.
Kudos go out to Jim Plihcik, Ben Labaree, Bob Kroupa and
many others for providing assistance with every issue.

Corvette trip of a lifetime?
Yours truly had a very unique opportunity on April 17. Thanks
to our good friends at www.buyavette.net, I was able to assist
with the transportation of a 2011 ZO6, and a 2014 Laguna blue
2LT seven speed coupe.
Depart Ft. Lauderdale, arrive Tampa 265 miles. Quick jaunt to
Lakeland FL. Inspection and familiarization of C7. Next stop
Atlanta, GA. 463 miles later.
Impressions:
The ZO6 is a wonderful car with the refinement of a fine
woman and the ability to turn into a thrill ride on wheels.
Jumping from that car to the Stingray was possibly like
checking out of a Marriott, and checking into the Ritz Carlton.
Once you get past the awesomeness of the exterior looks of
Chevrolet's latest generation of Corvette, The interior smells
like a glove and surrounds you in a similar fashion to a C4
close up and personal driving position, but that is the only thing
that reminded me of a C4. Familiarization with DIC
configuration is quite straightforward and has an amazing
amount of content and configurability. The stand out things in
my mind were the quality of the graphics and the now color
heads up display. Three analog gauges are comprised of a
tachometer, fuel and temperature gauges. Some of the details
and nice touches are the ability to have the NAV display in the
DIC and the cute touch is a C7 icon at you map position
instead of a generic vehicle. This car had ride control and
automatically enables the performance exhaust in
Performance and Track mode, a nice touch. While absorbing
the car I sensed that some cues from the fenders reminded me
of the view from a C3. Nothing comes close in its class to
exceeding the driver’s experience of the awesome Corvette!
GM Media, Corvetted - April 24, 2015 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Chevrolet today introduced the 2016
Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition – a road-going, track-capable
homage to the Corvette Racing C7.R racecars. It’s offered in
Corvette Racing’s signature yellow livery – or black – with
coordinated exterior and interior accents.
Only 500 examples of the C7.R Edition will be built and all will
include the Z07 Performance Package with carbon ceramic
brakes, as well as a specially serialized vehicle identification
number. They go on sale later this year.
“Corvette Racing’s legacy and technology were significant
influences on the development of the Corvette Z06 and the
new C7.R Edition honors the direct link between the racecar
and the production model,” said Harlan Charles, Corvette
product and marketing manager as he introduced the new
Corvette to thousands of Corvette enthusiasts at the National
Corvette Museum's annual BASH in Bowling Green. “It also
advances Chevrolet’s plan to offer special-edition models that
offer a unique, personal ownership experiences, which become
important parts of Corvette’s legacy.”
"The Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition offers capability matched only
by an elite fraternity of the world’s supercars and specialedition exclusivity that is sure to make it an instant collector’s
item" - Harlan Charles -Corvette Marketing Manager

I had the honor and privilege to meet Mr. Kurt Tanner at
Barrett Jackson last month. As many of you may know
from past Barrett Jackson auctions, Kurt is famous for
his restoration of Austin Healey cars. His work is well
respected and admired within our industry. He was very
kind to chat with me. Here is his bio from his website at,
http://kurttannermotorcars.com/history/
Kurt Tanner Restorations evolved into Kurt Tanner Motorcars,
a classic European sports car dealer located here in Southern
California. Kurt’s 25 years of restoring sports cars brings an
expertise to the market that can accurately identify and assess
a car’s condition, from basket case project cars, all the way up
to a Concours show winner.

Corvette Collector Market Outlook – Following
Houston and Palm Beach
Corvetted takes a look at where the Corvette market is headed for
2015 in the aftermath of the Houston and Palm Beach Auctions
Rick Tavel© - Corvetted – April 13, 2015
Since the uninspiring collector Corvette sales in the all-important
January auctions the Corvette market has been struggling to determine
if the results indicated that prices for America’s sports car were
undergoing a mere market price correction or if the disappointing
prices could be the beginning of more severe and longer market price
decline. Many Corvette market analysts were looking to the traditional
strength of Mecum’s Houston and Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach April
events as the litmus test that would provide more information, answer
the question and provide an outlook for the balance of 2015.
The first indicator we examined were consignments. Mecum’s Houston
event is historically one of the strongest Corvette venues in the country
and since the cancellation of their all-Corvette Bloomington Gold
auction last year anticipation was running high that we’d see a jump in
both quantity and quality of the Corvettes at this year’s auction. Two
weeks before the auction we had a major concern with only 70
Corvettes consigned at the time, far below last year’s offerings, but our
concerns were allayed when several sellers decided at the last minute
to have their Corvette cross the block, bringing the number of
consignments close to last year’s offerings. While many of those late
consignments were unremarkable examples, it is encouraging to see
the number come much closer to last year’s than we would have
thought possible a few weeks ago.
This 1967 Corvette L71 sold for $138.6K at Barrett-Jackson in Palm
Beach 20% above the price it sold for three months earlier in
Scottsdale. But it still sold for less than its Hagerty valuation. (Photo:
Barrett-Jackson)
Likewise, Palm Beach has traditionally been a relatively good Corvette
market for Barrett-Jackson so again our anticipation was strong.
Though consignments ended up almost mirroring 2014’s number. Like
Mecum’s docket there were only a few blue chip, high value Corvettes
offered and just looking at the number of consignments gave us little
indication in the future direction and strength of the Corvette market
moving forward. One encouraging sign however was Mecum’s 69%
sell through for Corvettes, which based on past auctions, was very
strong. Since Barrett-Jackson is almost entirely a “no reserve” event it
offered no information in that regard.
Taken on the whole, both auctions were successful in sales
performance for all collector cars, but in both auctions it was clear
Corvettes failed to bring the comparable prices to late 2013 and early
2014. As an example in 2014 the top Corvette seller in Houston was a
beautiful 1967 coupe which hammered for $725K, much stronger than
this year’s top seller a very fine 1964 “big tank” coupe which
hammered for $220K. Overall prices were not as strong as last year for
comparable models. At Barrett-Jackson in 2014, aside from the first
production Z06 VIN #001 that sold for $1M, several of the top
Corvettes sold for $165K. This year the top Corvette sold at BarrettJackson was a 1962 restomod that hammered for $175K but aside
from that single example only four other Corvettes managed to break
through the $100K barrier this year, half as many as in 2014 and none
but the restomod came close to the four Corvettes that sold for the
$160K price point last year. After the restomod the top seller was a
1967 Marlboro Maroon L71 coupe (LOT 467) which sold for $138.6K.
Another indication of the softening prices was that at both auctions
there was only one Corvette on their top ten seller list where in past
auctions Corvettes had up to four examples in the top ten. This year at
Barrett-Jackson the single example was the aforementioned 1962
restomod and at Mecum it was an excellent 1964 “big tank” coupe
(LOT S117) that hammered for $220K.

Mecum)
Aside from Corvettes, the strength of the all collector cars on the
docket at both events was exceptionally strong, but the Corvette prices
indicated that either the Corvette offerings were simply not as strong
as last year or the Corvette market was declining rapidly. After
analyzing all the facts we do not believe the latter is the case but rather
believe the results are a combination of both a market correction in
valuation and overall weaker consignments. In Corvette valuation and
pricing the market, though not as strong as 2013 and early 2014, has
undergone a 10 to 15% market correction and is off their “highs” of two
years ago. We believe the market has leveled off and stabilized at
those lower valuations and the Corvette segment of the collector
market is still viable and not in danger of falling much more in the near
term.
Corvetted’s Corvette Collector Market Outlook: Though the market has
fallen 10 to 15% in the last six months we believe the market has
leveled off and stabilized at those lower valuations.
Here’s our analysis of what has happened over the last year in the
Corvette market.
First, after rapidly appreciating in late 2012, 2013 and early 2014, the
Corvette market leveled off and by late 2014 cars went unsold and the
prices began to decline primarily as a result of the over aggressive
price jumps in the previous months. We see the decline as a price
correction in the market with Corvettes selling 10 to 15% below the
prices the cars were getting in 2013. That drop in Corvette prices was
distorted even further in January at Barrett-Jackson where Corvettes
simply either did not sell or sold below the estimates. But, as we stated
in our analysis after the January auctions, we believe this was more a
factor of the traditionally strong Corvettes being overshadowed by the
hype and emphasis Barrett-Jackson placed on the Ron Pratt collection.
So the Corvette results at Barrett-Jackson in January have to be
discounted as a factor in analyzing future Corvette prices.
One example of this was a wonderful 1967 Corvette matching number
coupe that was hammered in Scottsdale for $105K and clearly worth
far more. In fact in our Scottsdale recap we said it was the ‘buy” of the
event. For unknown reasons the same car was again auctioned in
Palm Beach and this time the same Corvette that hammered for $105K
in January was one of the top Palm Beach Corvettes, selling for
$138.6K, 20% above the price it garnered three months earlier. The
Palm Beach price was far more indicative of the valuation, though it
still sold below the estimated value prior to the market correction.
Considering the market correction the car was still a good buy but
much closer to a realistic price. At Auctions America in March in Fort
Lauderdale a similar example sold for $160K.
Examining the Hagerty Valuation Guide, the benchmark of the collector
car industry, you can see the guide based on condition for a numbers
matching, 1967 427/435 L71.
The Hagerty valuation chart indicates that 1967 matching numbers,
427/435 L71 coupes in strong condition should bring above $150K.
Hagerty pegs the estimate for this example between $145K to $165K.
One area that has continued to show strength is the big block 427 and
454 third generation Corvettes and Barrett-Jackson had no less than
four cross the block. Though none had the highly sought after 454 LS6
or 427 L71 engine, they were strong 390 HP and 400 HP examples of
$25K ($27.5 with commission). Note that the 1970 and 1971 LT1’s will
continue to bring significantly more than the 1972 years.
Prices for fourth generation Corvettes will continue to be great buys.
Because their prices are already at bargain basement levels they will
dodge the market correction bullet and remain about where they have
been except for the ZR1s and Grand Sports, which will continue to
hover in the low to mid $20K range for ZR1s and more for Grand
Sports. The ZR1s should begin to show some appreciation for original
survivor examples. But if we were going to go out on the prediction
foundation for the Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes of the fifth, sixth and seventh
generations.
Fifth generation prices are all over the board with some outstanding
bargains out there aside from the Z06’s and Fixed Roof Coupes which
continue to demand strong prices. Though bargains can still be found,
all original, low mileage, unmodified FRCs and Z06s will begin
may take another decade but these cars will surely escalate in value
and while good examples are still readily available it may be wise to
$88K and Mecum sold a strong #2 1969 Red/Black 427/390 HP
convertible with air conditioning, lot S120.1, for $55K, a strong price
for a non solid lifter engine C3.
Here’s what we expect for the balance of 2015 in the Corvette
market.
Expect prices of first and second generation Corvettes to sell 10 to
20% below their 2013 highs. Even the big block Corvette pricing will be
affected but the 1967 427 L71’s should be less impacted than the L36
and L68s. The exception to the market correction will be the L88 and
L89 1967 Corvettes which should still bring close to record prices.
Expect continued strength in the third generation big block and LT1
Corvettes. The legendary third generation L88’s will be impacted by
the market adjustment seeing prices impacted by the same 10 to 15%
unless the example is a condition 1 survivor (then we may see prices
above $750K). Expect the ultra rare 1971 LS6 powered Corvettes to
be highly prized and continue to escalate in prices. It would not be
surprising to see an all original and documented 1971 LS6 to sell for
$400K and in the future demand prices close or equal to some L88s.
Overall third generation Corvettes are gaining renewed respect and
collectors can still find big block bargains like Lot 112, an all original
1972 LT1 that just hammered at Barrett-Jackson for the bargain price
of $25K ($27.5 with commission). Note that the 1970 and 1971 LT1’s
will continue to bring significantly more than the 1972 years.
But if we were going to go out on the prediction
limb we would begin “stockpiling” original condition C4’s for their
inevitable future appreciation, especially the ZR1s and Grand Sports. It
may take another decade but these cars will surely escalate in value
and while good examples are still readily available it may be wise to
add one to your collection. They were the Corvette generation that
brought performance back to the Corvette and unless you are old
enough to remember the ZR1 introduction you can’t fully appreciate
what these cars represented at a time when many had no concept of
what a real ”performance car” represented. These cars will one day be
recognized for the impact they not only had on Chevrolet and Corvette
but for setting the stage for a return performance cars and laying the
foundation for the Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes of the fifth, sixth and seventh
generations.
Fifth generation prices are all over the board with some outstanding
bargains out there aside from the Z06’s and Fixed Roof Coupes which
continue to demand strong prices. Though bargains can still be found,
all original, low mileage, unmodified FRCs and Z06s will begin
escalating in price. Because they are the prototypes for the popular
Z06s Fixed Roof Coupe that are all original documented examples will
be solid investments and in the future their prices will equal or surpass
a similar condition Z06 due to their limited production numbers. But the
key factor for FRCs will be the originality, documentation and condition.
Overall, the fifth generation Corvettes have always had a larger
following and never experienced many of the criticisms of the C4 and
as such fifth generation Corvettes still demand higher prices on
average than a C4.
Sixth generation Corvettes will continue their expected price free fall of
the last two years just like all models when a new generation is
introduced. For many the C6 is no more than a used car and have
suffered the depreciation common to most But the high performance
models, Z06, ZR1, and 427s will continue to demand strong prices.
So Corvette collectors can take heart that we appear not to be in the
same spot that the market was in just before the 2008 Corvette market
crash. Though there was a minor price drop in early 2007 similar to
what has happened recently it appears the market will remain relatively
stable through the balance of 2015. Next January should help decipher
market trends for 2016.

GTLM Corvettes Suffer Laguna Seca Disppointment
by Rick Tavel
Laguna Seca wasn't kind to Corvette Racing this year. (Photo:
Richard Prince)
Following the worst finish this season in the Tudor USCC
series the #3 C7.R drivers, Magnussen and Garcia, hold on to
a diminishing 2 point lead in the standings.
Corvetted - GM Team Chevy – IMSA - May 4, 2015 Though Corvette Daytona Prototypes took four of the top five
positions in their class inSunday’s Tudor United Sports Car
Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, things did not
go so well for the GTLM Corvettes fielded by Corvette Racing.
Corvette Racing’s two Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs finished sixth
and seventh in the Tudor United Sports Car Championship’s
fourth race of the season.
Lucas Luhr and John Edwards teamed to give the No. 24 IHG
Rewards Club BMW Z4 GTLM its first TUDOR Championship
victory and the IHG team their second consecutive win. Long
Beach winners Dirk Werner and Bill Auberlen placed second in
the No. 25 IHG Rewards Club BMW Z4, with Edwards leading
Auberlen to the checkered by 22.572 seconds.
The standings leading GTLM team had hoped to add the third
win of the season and their eighth Laguna Seca victory since
2000. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette
posted their best finish since a third-place result to start 2015
at Daytona. Milner qualified fifth but was blocked at the start
and had to cede two positions. Gavin drove the final 57
minutes and suffered a minor hit by a Prototype Challenge car
but otherwise had an uneventful stint.
The #3 C7.R team saw their points lead cut to only 2 after their
seventh place finish at Laguna Seca (Photo: Jan Magnussen
FB)
Two-time and defending Laguna Seca class winners and
leaders in the drivers’ point standing, Antonio Garcia and Jan
Magnussen found frustration early and often in their race.
Garcia started near the rear of the field after an overnight
engine change but quickly moved through the slower GT
Daytona field. Unfortunately he suffered right-front body
damage as two prototypes worked their way through in a battle
for the overall lead.
This is the second loss in a row for the GTLM Corvette Racing
Team following victories in the two opening events, both
endurance events, at Daytona and Sebring. IMSA imposed
Balance of Performance adjustments prior to the Long Beach
race that was highly beneficial to the BMW Team and
detrimental to the Corvette Team. Since those adjustments
went into effect the BMW Team won both Long Beach and
Laguna Seca. while the best the Corvettes could muster was a
thrid at Long Beach.
In addition to the beneficial adjustments given to the BMW,
Ferrari and Porsche teams, perhaps the adjustment that will
hurt the Corvette team the most and have the biggest impact
on the season will show up in the two remaining endurance
events at Watkins Glen and Atlanta. All cars except the
Corvette were allowed to increase their fuel capacity while the
Corvette Team was required to reduce their fuel capacity by
3L. Unfortunately it appears that IMSA cannot help but
orchestrate the outcome of the chamionship. After winning
four consecutive races last year the Tudor USCC sanctioning
body, IMSA, imposed adjustments to the Corvette Racing
Team this is the same type of penalizing adjustments to the
Corvette team that virtually stole the 2015 GTLM
Championship from the Corvette team.
Magnussen and Garcia still have managed to hold on to the
top position in the standings but their lead has been cut to only
2 points following Laguna Seca’s off-podium finish.
CORVETTE RACING GTLM QUOTES
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R –
FINISHED SIXTH:
“It was a tough day in the office today. Tommy got balked at
the start by the Ferrari. It seemed that we could get up to the
back of our competitors but trying to pass people was very
hard. Just the way the pit stops turned out, it was me getting in
for the last hour of the race. We had a glitch getting me in the
car. I had a bit of a race with Jan coming into the Corkscrew.
We’ve raced each other for years and know each other very
well. I thought our car was quicker at the time, so I was able to
get by and pull out a gap. They had damage too. Then it was a
case of reeling off the laps and staying out of trouble. Some of
the driving by some of the other drivers in other classes was
very creative. Clearly some people haven’t gotten very much
experience in the cars they are driving or at this track. With our
competition seemingly having a performance advantage over
us, it feels like we’re sort of driving with one arm tied behind
our backs. Hopefully by the time we come back after Le Mans,
there will be a tighter rules package that will make for good,
strong competition."
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R –
FINISHED SIXTH:
"Right at the start, the Ferrari… I don't know what he did, but
he went and then he stopped. We can't pass before the
start/finish so we got kind of messed up there. I think I lost one
or two spots. Not too bad and just a little frustrating. From there
just running our race. Certainly we were not as quick at the
BMWs for sure, and the Porsches and Ferraris are fast enough
we can't really on pace compete with them. I had some good
battles with the Falken Porsche and one of the factory
Porsches there. For as bad as the traffic was, it was just
holding on, keeping the nose clean and giving Olly a car he
could race with."
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R –
FINISHED SEVENTH:
"It was tough today. Starting from the rear was unfortunate but
necessary. Our Corvette felt well-balanced and relatively fast
early as I moved up through the GTD cars. Then I had damage
when one of the prototypes slowed in front of me, and that was
pretty much our day. The balance and handling of the car
suffered. It is tough to pass here without damage but with it,
passing is nearly impossible. It was frustrating for sure for both
Jan and I because we couldn't fight with other cars in our class.
We definitely lost out on a couple of positions. But now we
have to regroup and focus on Le Mans."
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R –
FINISHED SEVENTH:
"Antonio had a fantastic start and got through the GTD cars.
Unfortunately he got caught up in the DP lead battle and had a
little bit of damage on the front. It really deteriorated the
handling of the car and made it compromised. So when I got in
the car, I was just trying to hold on to it. It was a handful. It is
hard to give any good feedback to the engineers with the setup
so compromised from the damage. We salvaged a few points.
We now have a break from IMSA as we test and head to the
biggest race of the year in Le Mans. Hopefully we can come
back from France and resume the battle for the championship."
Corvette Racings GTLM team next heads across the Atlantic
Ocean to the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 13-14 while the
Corvette Daytona Prototypes head to the Chevrolet Sports Car
Classic from Belle Isle Raceway in Detroit on Saturday, May
30.

For 2016, Chevrolet is helping
design-challenged Corvette
Stingray and Z06 buyers choose cool, coordinated
interior and exterior colors with three new design packages: Spice Red,
Jet Black Suede, and Twilight Blue. Red, white, and blue might’ve been
more patriotic, but we think red, black, and blue definitely look better.
For the Stingray, all three also include a rear spoiler and require
ordering a 3LT model as well as Magnetic Ride Control (which no
longer requires the Z51 package, although this bundle is compatible);
Z06 versions are available for the 3LZ trim level. Both coupes and
convertibles can be thus outfitted. From there, the breakdowns are as
follows:
Spice Red Design Package
This has nothing to do with awful tween fiction. Instead, you get a dark
blue interior and a blue top (on convertibles), as well as your choice of
Night Race Blue, Arctic White, Shark Gray, or Blade Silver paint. The
wheel fitments for the Stingray and Z06 models are the same as with
the Spice Red cars, and buyers get their choice of gray or black brake
calipers. The vents on every car—there are many more on the Z06,
obviously—are rendered in Shark Gray, while Stingrays get chrome
badging. A red, white, and blue tri-color stripe package is optional.
The design packages are coming online as part of a host of equipment
changes visited upon the C7 for 2016, which includes the wicked C7.R
Edition Z06
Jeff Gordon to Drive Corvette
Z06 Indy 500 Pace Car
Five-time Brickyard winner will lead pack
for 99th running of the Indianapolis 500
This one combines a Spice Red interior and (on convertibles) a
matching red top, and it also has red brake calipers. Arctic White,
Blade Silver, Shark Gray, and new Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat
(dark red) are the available exterior paints. Stingray versions get
polished “Motorsport” wheels, while the Z06 gets a pearl-nickel-finish
“Blade” wheel and chrome exterior badges.
Jet Black Suede Design Package
The JBSD features black sueded microfiber upholstery and sueded
microfiber on the steering wheel and shift knob. Convertibles get a
black top. Can be ordered in the following exterior colors: Black
(naturally), Arctic White, Blade Silver, and Torch Red. Includes black
wheels with a red stripe as well as red brake calipers. Additionally, the
hood vent is done in satin black, and a glossy black trim panel is fitted
to the interior. Stingray models also get “Carbon Flash” badging.
Twilight Blue Design Package
INDIANAPOLIS – Five-time Brickyard 400 winner and
four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon will
drive a Corvette Z06 pace car for the 99th running of the
Indianapolis 500 mile race, May 24 at the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway.
It is the 13th time a Corvette has served as the official
pace car, dating to 1978, and the 26th time a Chevrolet
has led the pack for “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
Corvette has served as the pace car more than any
other vehicle in the race’s history.
Gordon, who grew up in nearby Pittsboro, Ind., is no
stranger to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In 1994 he
won the inaugural Brickyard 400 – the first-ever
NASCAR race at the Brickyard, and has visited the
winner’s circle there four more times. That makes him
one of only two five-time winners at Indy in any series.
Michael Schumacher won five Formula One races there.
“It’s great to have Jeff Gordon serve as this year’s pace
car driver,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice
president of performance vehicles and motorsports. “He
is a true champion who has earned the respect and
admiration of competitors and race fans alike. It will be
very special to have Jeff lead the Indy 500 field to the
green flag, behind the wheel of the most powerful and
capable production car ever from Chevrolet – on a day
he’ll also be competing in the Coca Cola 600 NASCAR
race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”
With 650 supercharged horsepower, a seven-speed
manual transmission and a track-capable chassis
system, Gordon will have no trouble keeping in front of
the race field in the production-spec Corvette Z06.
Featuring an Arctic White exterior and Adrenaline Red
interior, only its unique Indy graphics package and safety
strobe lights distinguish it from other production models.
“Indy is hallowed ground for racers like me and I couldn’t
be more thrilled to drive the Corvette Z06 pace car
around the track that helped drive my success over the
years,” Gordon said. ”The Indianapolis 500 is one of the
most celebrated races of the year and an event I always
dreamed of racing while growing up in California and in
nearby Pittsboro. I’ve won five NASCAR races at IMS
and the track will always be a special place for me, so to
be able to participate in such a historic day will be
something I remember for the rest of my life.”
Like Gordon, Chevrolet has a long, shared heritage with
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Chevrolet was
founded in 1911, the year of the inaugural 500-mile race,
and the Chevrolet brothers – company co-founder Louis,
Arthur and Gaston – all competed in early Indy 500
races. Arthur Chevrolet competed in the 1911 race and
Gaston Chevrolet won it in 1920.
“Jeff is a great choice to lead this year’s starting 33
drivers in Indianapolis 500 to the green flag,” said J.
Douglas Boles, president of the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway. “Jeff has such a strong connection to
the state of Indiana and the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway and his appearance in the Corvette Z06 pace
car reinforces Chevrolet’s important place in the past,
present and future of the Indianapolis 500 as well. We
also look forward to seeing him back here on July 26, to
see if he can make it six wins for the Crown Royal 400 at
the Brickyard.”
“Jeff Gordon is a NASCAR legend, an icon of global
motorsports and has a special history of success racing
at The Brickyard in Indianapolis and the Coca-Cola 600
in Charlotte,” said Brian France, NASCAR chairman and
CEO. “This is a unique honor for him to be recognized in
this way by our partners at Chevrolet and Indianapolis
Motor Speedway. The day certainly will be another
special one in the storied history that Jeff already has
written at Indianapolis and Charlotte.”
About the Corvette Z06
The Z06 rejoined the Corvette lineup for 2015 as the
most capable model in the iconic car’s 62-year history. It
stretches the performance envelope for Corvette with
unprecedented levels of aerodynamic downforce – and it
is the first Corvette Z06 to offer a supercharged engine,
an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission and,
thanks to a stronger aluminum frame, a removable roof
panel.
The new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine is SAEcertified at 650 horsepower (485 kW) at 6,400 rpm and
650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm) at 3,600 rpm – making the
2015 Corvette Z06 the most powerful production car
ever from General Motors and one of the most powerful
production cars available in the United States. With the
available Z07 package, its capability enables:
0-60 mph acceleration in 2.95 seconds with the eightspeed automatic and 3.2 seconds with the seven-speed
manual transmission
Quarter-mile times of 10.95 seconds at 127 mph with the
eight-speed and 11.2 seconds at 127 mph with the
seven-speed transmission
Lateral acceleration of 1.2 g
60-0 mph braking in only 99.6 feet – the best of any
production car tested by General Motors.
The Z07 package adds adjustable front and rear aero
components for unprecedented aerodynamic downforce,
Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires for enhanced grip,
and Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that
improve braking performance and contribute to greater
handling through reduced un-sprung weight.
The Z06 also offers an all-new, industry-leading
Performance Data Recorder that enables users to record
high-definition video, with telemetry overlays, of their
driving experiences on and off the track.

Monterey circuit has been good to Corvette power since 2012
debut
Team Chevy Release – Corvetted – April 30, 2015 DETROIT (April 28, 2015) – Off first- and third-place finishes at
Long Beach, Chevrolet’s Corvette Daytona Prototype program
heads up the California coast to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
and the fourth round of the TUDOR United SportsCar
Championship. The Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix is
the first two-hour, 40-minute race for TUDOR Championship
cars and is a return to four-class racing for the first time since
March.
Corvette DPs have found success at the 2.238-mile, 11-turn
circuit that sits just off the Monterey Peninsula. Since its first
race at Laguna Seca in 2012, the Corvette DP has won twice –
VisitFlorida.com Racing in 2012 and Wayne Taylor Racing in
2013 as part of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.
Richard Westbrook was part of the winning lineup in 2012 and
is back in the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP alongside
Michael Valiante. Westbrook was the pole winner in 2012 (he
also set the fastest race lap) and 2013. The latter year saw
Jordan Taylor and Max Angelelli win for Wayne Taylor Racing.

their second win for 2015 (Photo:mazdaraceway.com)
Taylor and brother Ricky are coming off a victory at Long
Beach, the first at the circuit for the Corvette DP.
VisitFlorida.com Racing’s No. 90 Corvette DP and Wayne
Taylor Racing’s No. 10 Konica Minolta entry are two of the four
Corvette DPs entered for this weekend’s race at Laguna Seca.
TUDOR Championship Prototype leaders Joao Barbosa and
Christian Fittipaldi will team again in Action Express Racing’s
No. 5 Mustang Sampling Corvette DP.
In Action Express Racing’s No. 31 Whelen Engineering/Team
Fox Corvette DP, Eric Curran and Dane Cameron will share
duties.
“Laguna Seca is one of the more challenging tracks we visit in
the TUDOR Championship,” said Jim Lutz, Chevrolet Program
Manager for Corvette Daytona Prototypes. “The temperature
fluctuation, cloud cover, and sand and tire rubber on the track
can make finding grip difficult. It requires a stable car with good
handling and braking. Typically the lighter P2 cars have had an
advantage but our Corvette DPs have improved in the areas
where we needed to make gains. It should be a competitive
event and another good points for Team Chevy.”
For the 2015 TUDOR Championship, all Corvette DP cars are
running with updated Chevrolet bodywork that reflects the
Corvette C7 production line.
The frontal area sees a striking change in design from the
previous generation Corvette DP, including updates to the
hood surface, headlights and radiator inlet area. The rear
window area also has been updated. The Corvette DP will take
styling cues from the C7 including the rear taillights.
At the heart of the Corvette Daytona Prototype is a purposebuilt 5.5-liter Chevrolet LS9 V-8 engine developed by ECR
Engines. The peak output is 560 hp as the power is regulated
by a pair of sonic air restrictors that are mandated by the
International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) – the
sanctioning body of the TUDOR Championship.
The Corvette DP also features a new engine management
system from Bosch Motorsport for 2015 and a continuation of a
six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle-shift. The brakes
feature six-piston calipers with carbon rotors. Without the
driver, the Corvette DP weighs 2,285 pounds.

CORVETTE DAYTONA PROTOTYPE QUOTES
CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 5
MUSTANG SAMPLING CORVETTE DP: “It’s always great to
lead the points. We will try our very best to leave Laguna with
the points lead. Long Beach wasn’t the weekend we expected,
so we are planning to turn things around for Monterey. Passing
is very difficult in Laguna. With all the different classes you
might see more overtaking, primarily when you get a guy
caught behind lapped traffic. Our car was good last year, but
João had contact with another car toward the end of the race
and that really hurt our chances.”
JORDAN TAYLOR, WAYNE TAYLOR RACING NO. 10
KONICA MINOLTA CORVETTE DP: “It’s nice to head to
Laguna after our win at Long Beach. We’ve had strong runs at
Laguna the past two years with a win and a second, so we
have good history there. We know our car this year has the
pace to compete for poles and wins. Last year, we struggled a
little with outright pace, and that made the sprint races a little
tougher. It’ll be a little bit of a longer race than Long Beach –
more pit stops and more strategy – but, thankfully, we have the
best guys for that.”
DANE CAMERON, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 31
WHELEN
ENGINGEERING/TEAM
FOX
CORVETTE
DP: “Laguna Seca has always been a home event for me.
Growing up in Northern California it was always the race at the
end of the season I got to attend with my dad. It’s still great to
go back because you get to see a lot of the people you grew
up karting with and friends you went to school with. This year
I’m bringing my wife and kids out to be part of the event, so it’s
really exciting. The track itself is tricky. It’s a high-speed track
but lacks a lot of grip because you have all the sand that gets
kicked up on the racing surface. Turn 6 can be tough. It’s a
high-speed corner and blind, and it also sets you up for the
Corkscrew, which is legendary. Overtaking can be difficult, and
with more cars this year there will be a bigger premium on
track position.”
RICHARD WESTBROOK, VISITFLORIDA.COM NO. 90
CORVETTE DP: “Racing at Laguna Seca is great. The track
has a rich history in all forms of racing, so it’s great to be able
to compete there in our VISITFLORIDA.COM Chevrolet
Corvette DP. You have a lot of passing opportunities which is
great, but it also means that you have opportunities to be
passed, or sometimes people think they can get position on
you and pass, but they really can’t. You have to stay alert, take
advantage of opportunities to pass when they present
themselves, and push the car hard for two hours and forty
minutes.”
