Established in 1920, Anfora’s 13 million square foot factory in Pachuca, Mexico
specializes in the modern manufacturing of high quality ceramics used throughout
North America & Europe. Delivering a high quality porcelain with a 100% vitrified
body, Anfora products are fired at temperatures over 1200 degrees C & designed with
contoured edges to increase chip resistance.

the history of anfora
Founded in 1920 in Mexico City shortly after the
end of World War 1 and at the end of the Mexican
Revolution, Anfora began operation with a single
mixer and firewood bell kilns. The company focused
its manufacturing capacity on ceramic products for
the hotel and restaurant market. Over the years the
company became known in Mexico for the quality of
its products, thanks mainly to expertise of German
technicians who transmitted their know-how to
Mexican foreman and workers.
From the very beginning Anfora had a great advantage
of quality raw materials. While other manufacturers
imported most of their raw materials, Anfora
developed a body type with excellent quality and
a low cost. The technology used in the fabrications
and designs, as well as its service, allowed Anfora to
become the leader in the Mexican ceramic industry.
During the second World War, the Mexican government
took over the company’s management since the greater
part of it’s shareholders were of German origin. Five
years later, the government returned control to its
owners who faced the difficult task of restructuring the
company. From then on, Anfora became the leading
vitroporcelain manufacturer in Mexico. In the segment of
home use dinnerware, Anfora’s designs quickly became
the best known and most loved.
In 1946, Anfora started a sanitaryware line which has
evolved constantly to perform as one of the top rated
flushing systems in North America.

Coming from a closed economy, Mexico opened
its borders to low end chinese imports in
1987, which put the Mexican ceramic industry
into a tailspin. From 9 large scale-ceramic
manufacturers only Anfora survived, thanks to a
major reorganization which included closing the
old Mexico City factory and moving to what then
became the largest porcelain factory in North
America, Anfora’s Pachuca facility.
Anfora turned its entire production know-how to
vitroporcelain and modernized the production process
to improving quality. Today, German isostatic pressing
technolgies and a motivated team of highly qualified
workers are focusing in three main areas according to
Anfora’s corporate mission: service, design and quality.
Anfora has continued to improve its upward
trend in optimizing customer service, as well
as to develop a successful export line with our
distribution partners, Steelite International. Today
with more than 600 employees and 1.2 million
square feet of modern production facilities Anfora
continues to renovate itself through technology
and innovative designs to satisfy our customers.
