Seal of Authenticity
All of our decorative hand-crafted home décor and
dinnerware products are authentic products made by
prominent world-renowned Mexican artisans. They
are made 100% in Mexico and
the artisans place a sticker on
each of their products as a seal
of authenticity. This seal is an
eagle with the words of Hecho
en Mexico or Made in Mexico.
Beware of imitations. People all over the world go
to Mexico and try to copy their style and forms and
often mass produce them with very low quality. They
try to commoditize these cultural heritage relics
for their own profits. These products are often done
without the level of detail, precision and quality of
truly hand-crafted items from Mexico.
Authentic Mexican hand-crafted products are
extremely elaborate and are made by hand. Their high
quality and emphasis on detail is due to the time and
effort that goes into its production. Due to the fact
that they are done by hand, no two items are alike,
which adds to their uniqueness.
The Origins of the Products
Our diverse line of Copper, Pewter, Talavera,
Ceramic/Clay Pottery, Blown Glass, and Wrought
Iron products come from different regions of Mexico.
Copper
Our copper products are made by artists from the
world-renowned region of Santa Clara del Cobre.
Declared a National Historical Monument in 2001,
Santa Clara del Cobre is a small town near Patzcuaro
specializing in copper. It is located higher in the hills
about 20 miles south of Patzcuaro via a winding road.
Santa Clara was an important copper-producing
region long before the arrival of the Spanish
Conquerors, although no ore is now extracted from
the local mines.
Talavera
Talavera pottery is the Mexican variation of the
Spanish majolica ware originally produced in Talavera
de la Reina and other Spanish cities. Spanish majolica
was derived from Italian Renaissance Majolica, with
Moorish, Islamic, and Far Eastern influences. The
craft was brought to Mexico immediately following
the Conquest (1500’s) when the Spanish settled the
city of Puebla. This very beautiful glazed pottery was
originally produced in Puebla only by Spanish artisans
under strict guild control. Glazing had been unknown
in pre-Hispanic Mexico. The stylish pottery and tiles
were produced in great quantities by well-organized
potteries to meet the need for tableware, architectural
tiles, and utilitarian pottery in the New World.
Today Talavera pottery (named for its Spanish city of
origin) is made in the towns of Puebla and Dolores
Hidalgo. You can often see the influence of Moorish
designs in Mexican Talavera, but the Mexican
influence is there also in floral designs and copies of
famous Mexican paintings and other images.
Ceramic/Clay Pottery
For centuries, the towns of Tonala and Tlaquepaque,
in the state of Jalisco, have been home to exceptionally
talented potters whose beautiful works inspire the
admiration of pottery lovers around the word. Tonala,
which means “place from which the sun rises,” is a
quaint and peaceful village situated, like Tlaquepaque,
on the outskirts of Guadalajara.
When Christian missionaries arrived in Tonala,
around 1530, they named it the “factory of
paganism,” as it was here that the idols worshipped
in surrounding villages were made. Today, we could
call Tonala the factory of clay works of art. All these
beautiful ceramics are manufactured in a wide range
of brilliant colors. In addition, Tonala craftsmen
produce handicrafts made of paper-mache, brass and
copper, as well as clothing and handblown glassware.
Another village renowned for its pottery and splendid
handicrafts is San Pedro Tlaquepaque, where the
towncoat-of-arms bears the legend Prima Opera
Figlinae Homo, meaning “the first piece of pottery
was Man.” Tlaquepaque is one of Mexico’s most
prestigious handicraft centers.
How to Take Care
of Copper
Decorative items should be kept clean and dusted.
Copper is sensitive to air, and oxidizes (tarnishes)
faster in moist air. Coating with lacquer, if not
being used for food purposes, helps preserve
the finish.
Most pieces of decorative, modern
copper are protected by a factoryapplied, baked-on lacquer. Only
dusting and an occasional
washing with lukewarm,
soapy water are needed to
keep lacquered objects shiny.
Never polish them. Lacquer
must be removed from eating
and cooking utensils before using.
To remove lacquer, place the item in
two gallons of boiling water to which one
cup of washing soda has been added. The lacquer will
peel off. An alternate method to remove lacquer is to
rub with a cloth saturated with acetone or alcohol.
Here are some other recommendations on how to
take care of copper:
• Polish with Bar Keepers Friend® and fine steel
wool. Use plenty of elbow grease. Keep the kettles
extra bright by washing well with soap and
water after polishing.
• Dip half a lemon in kosher salt
and rub well. Then polish with
a soft cloth and beeswax for a
deep, lasting copper shine.
• Table salt and vinegar remove
oxidation from copper.
• To clean a copper kettle or
boiler, you need to remove
soap scum and hard water
deposits as well as oxidation.
Although a lightly oxidized copper piece
can be cleaned with salt and lemon
or vinegar, steel wool or a buffing wheel are required
for heavy-duty copper cleaning.
• Once your piece has a good shine, spray with a
brightening product to maintain the clean, bright
finish.
• Dust occasionally and wipe down with a cold,
damp cloth.
How to Take Care of
Polished Brass (Pewter)
True brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It tends to
oxidize (tarnish) quickly when exposed to air which
is a major reason why most brass is given a clear
coating of lacquer to prevent this condition. Most
conventional polishes such as Brasso®, Twinkle®,
etc. coat the raw metal with a thin
film of oil to help inhibit future
tarnishing. Additionally, most
metal polishes contain solvents
and detergents to remove
the tarnish, mild abrasives to
polish the metal, and oils to
act as a barrier between the
raw metal and air. Brass turns
“black” when cleaning due to
over-use and misuse of polish. The
biggest challenge to upkeep most metals,
including brass is the removal and inhibition of
tarnish. All substances, especially metals, oxidize when
exposed to air. Once tarnish is removed, a chemical
barrier should be created between the bare metal and
the air to inhibit the process from reoccurring.
Many people over-use and flood metal surfaces with
polishes believing that they are better protecting the
surface. The more polish, the more protection. Wrong
assumption. More polish creates a smudging
problem since fingerprints (human body
oils “dissolve” the solvency of the
metal polish. Additionally too much
polish may discolor the surface.
Only a trace amount creating a
THIN film should be applied.
Therefore, an adequate amount
of metal polish should be applied
and spread out an amount on an
absorbent cloth. Then, let the cloth
dry out for a minimum of 24 hours
before placement onto most metals.
Apply this trace amount of polish with
the grain of the brass with one hand while
buffing it out in a rapid motion (creating
friction) with the other hand. This burnishing action
will harden the polish (like “spit shining” a shoe)
and create a surface far more difficult to smudge
or discolor.
Olive Oil. Brass will look brighter and require less
polishing if rubbed with a cloth moistened with olive
oil after each polishing. Olive oil retards tarnish.

Ordering
All products in this catalog may be purchased
only through a Sol & Luna Galleria demonstrator.
Demonstrators are independent contractors and are
not employees of Sol & Luna Galleria. To help your
demonstrator ensure the accuracy in taking your
order, always include the item number, description,
and price of each item ordered. Your demonstrator
will provide you with one copy of your order. Please
retain this copy for your personal records. You have
the right to cancel your order within three days of
placing it. Ask your demonstrator for more details.
Delivery
We ship through the best carrier available. Product
is usually ordered once a sufficient pallet quantity is
gathered. While we will do our best in shipping you
the product as soon as possible, we strive to deliver
within 6-8 weeks after an order has been placed. Sol
& Luna Galleria shall not be liable for any delay in
shipment caused in whole or in part by circumstances
beyond Sol & Luna Galleria’s control.
Guarantee
We guarantee products to be free from manufacturing
defects upon delivery. Please keep in mind that while
we will do our best to sell products with the utmost
quality, these products are hand-crafted and are not
always 100% error-free. Missing items, incorrect
shipments, and defective or damaged merchandise
must be reported to the demonstrator within 30 days
of the delivery date. This guarantee does not cover
merchandise damaged through accident of misuse.
If you should require assistance, please contact your
demonstrator.
Exchanges & Refunds
The products are manufactured in Mexico once an
order is placed and since our manufacturers often
do not accept any refunds once the order has been
shipped from their manufacturing sites, Sol & Luna
Galleria will not be able to accept any product refunds
unless there is a product defect. In some instances
that you find you have bought a product that has not
met your expectations, you can make a request for a
credit towards a future Sol & Luna Galleria product
purchase. Sol & Luna Galleria reserves the right to
review each case individually and accept or reject any
request at any time.

product, you may choose to give us basic information:
name, email address, mailing address, ZIP code,
phone, and credit card numbers. This allows us
to process your transactions more efficiently, and

agree to comply with a customer’s requests to not

Limitations
While our intent is to inform our demonstrators and
consumers of discontinued items, Sol & Luna Galleria
reserves the right to discontinue products without
prior notice. In addition, since these products are
hand-crafted, the products might vary somewhat in
size from the images and descriptions shown in this
catalog, and this difference in size shall not be deemed
a manufacturer defect.
