Officer Assists Police with Arrest
A Message from the President
Over the years I have been asked many times to
talk about what makes G4S a leader in the security
industry. No matter if I am speaking to a room filled
with industry and business leaders or in a one-onone meeting with a potential client, my answer
focuses on one important point: Our G4S people
are, without question, the best in the business.
Every security officer who commits his or her
utmost attention to post details and professionalism
is an essential part of our success. G4S officers are
truly the ‘best of the best’ who work hard every day.
You are also an important part of your communities
as well. Many of you are participating in charity
events. So far this year, G4S officers and
employees have donated two thousand hours of
volunteer work in your communities.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL: USO Eric Reder is being credited with helping police apprehend
group of thieves what was burglarizing cars in and around a gated community. While
on gatehouse duties, Reder observed on security cameras three unidentified
individuals who were walking through the community. Officer Reder called the police,
who were coincidentally investigating a nearby stolen vehicle. The police took into
custody two people who were linked to the stolen vehicle and had committed numerous
vehicle burglaries inside the community. Police recovered stolen property and returned
it to the rightful owners. Officer Reder’s alertness and dedication to duty were
instrumental in the apprehension of these individuals.

Each summer we also honor our 2012 Officer of the
Year. The incredible story of Ruben Rendon is on
page 6. What you may not know is that Ruben
originally joined G4S because he was impressed
by the professionalism of G4S officers he saw in
his community.
If you are celebrating an anniversary with G4S this
summer, be sure to find your name among the
‘Celebrating Service’ list that is getting longer and
longer. So many people are working for G4S not
just as a job, but as a career. The story on Page 5
about Jason Ayala is noteworthy because he
started at G4S as a flex employee and in less than
three years he is now the operations manager in
our Los Angeles office. Jason is an example of a
motivated security officer who is now part of our
management team.
Again, I am honored to lead such an incredible
group of officers who perform at the top of the
security industry every day.

Atlantis, FL: CPO Howard R. Goff is being honored by JFK Medical Center for his quick
actions that disarmed a hospital patient who was threatening a nurse with a knife. When
the emergency room patient flashed the knife and made a threatening move toward the
nurse, Goff grabbed the knife and restrained the patient until police arrived. The man was
arrested. The nurse and Goff were not injured. G4S has presented Goff with a Certificate
of Valor.
G4S officers and personnel are the best in the security business. Their dedication and passion for their work is
unsurpassed. We honor our All Stars because they are men and women of character who lead our teams displaying
leadership, discipline, integrity and a “can-do” attitude.

USO Receives Florida West Coast ASIS Top Security Officer Award
’’
Lakeland, FL: USO Robert Burg is
being honored as the Florida West
Coast ASIS 2012 Security Officer of
the Year. In December 2011, Burg
was working at a higher education
campus when he saw a vehicle
traveling at a high rate of speed. The
driver then lost control of the car,
crashing into a power pole. Burg
called 911 and responded to the
scene where he found the car on fire
with the driver trapped inside.
USO Burg made several attempts to
pull the driver to safety, but the flames
forced him back. Luckily, a trucker
with a fire extinguisher arrived and
knocked down the flames enough so
that USO Burg was able to pull the
driver to safety.
Burg then dragged the unconscious
man away from the fire and rendered
First Aid until emergency medical
crews arrived. By then, the car was
fully engulfed in flames. The patient
was taken to the hospital where he
has since recovered from broken
bones in his legs and hips. G4S
honors USO Burg for his selfless,
lifesaving actions.

CPO Honored for Saving
Lives at Florida VA Clinic
St. Augustine, FL: CPO Benjamin Tucker is being called a
hero for saving the lives of a doctor and patients at the
Veterans Administration clinic. The patient, who tried to set
himself and the doctor on fire, was arrested. Police say a
man went to the VA clinic to get counseling and while he
was talking to the doctor, he poured gasoline on himself and
the doctor and tried to light a match. CPO Tucker jumped in
and was able to prevent the man from lighting the match.
After restraining the patient, Tucker evacuated others out
of the building. Luckily no one was injured. Showing
courage, strength and dedication, CPO Tucker put his life on
the line to prevent what could have been a disaster. We
honor Benjamin Tucker for his actions.
G4S Officer Commended
for Conduct During
Unannounced Visits
G4S Honors Baptist Health Care Inc.
Partnership
Rochester Hills, MI: G4S officer Todd Nichter is being
recognized for his work at a global chemical company
facility. The company has conducted three unannounced
site visits and each happened to occur during officer
Nichter’s shifts. The company leader wrote a letter to say,
“I have been impressed with officer Nichter’s conduct and
professionalism and I consider him to be an asset.”
Pensacola, FL: G4S General Manager Patrick Dawson is honoring Baptist Health
Care Inc. with the Pensacola Major Supporter Award. Baptist Health Care is the
Pensacola area’s only community-owned, not-for-profit health care system with more
than 6,500 employees. G4S recently featured our successful partnership with Baptist
Health Care in a Case Study. Dawson presented a framed copy of the document to
Senior Vice President David Wilderbrant and Director of Clinical and Support Services,
Doug Lurton.

G4S Security Team Assists
with U.S. President Barack Obama Visit

San Antonio, TX: The President of the United States visited the
Dominion community for a political fundraiser at a private home where a
team of G4S officers worked with U.S. Secret Service and San Antonio
Police Department to ensure a smooth visit.
Two G4S security officers were embedded with San Antonio Police and
Secret Service agents at checkpoints providing local area expertise.
G4S Sergeants Arsenio Mason and James Banks volunteered for the
prestigious duty.
“It was an historic event and I wanted to be a part of it,” said Sgt. James
Banks. “It was a great experience. Everything worked great and
everybody was doing what they were supposed to do. It felt like a
team effort.”
Sgt. Arsenio Mason said, “The Secret Service agent and police officer I
worked with were very in tune to their job. They were very cordial,
informative and job oriented. It was exciting knowing the President was
near. I’ve never been around a President before.”

Although the visit impacted Dominion community traffic, delays proved
minimal due to great communication. G4S Major Raul Hernandez,
a 23 year veteran said, “Most residents knew when not to be on the road.
The Homeowners Association did a great job of keeping everyone informed.”
The entire Dominion security team played a role in a flawless
collaboration between the community, the Secret Service, and the San
Antonio Police Department to ensure a successful, safe event.
People were still talking about the President’s visit days after the event.
The most common question our G4S security officers were asked was,
“Did you get to see the President?” We could tell you, but…

Jason’s Boss Shares his View

I was first hired by G4S in February, 2010 as a CPO
Rover, which was a position in which I was not
guaranteed any specific number of hours per week.
I was told that if I was “flexible” and “available” I could
do very well for myself. This did not discourage me
because after speaking with my boss, Keith Boles,
he offered me what other companies did not: An opportunity for a career.
He was very ambitious from Day One. He worked extremely hard
to be noticed by the Field Supervisors until he became one. As Field
Supervisor he was committed to meeting every client and every
officer to promote professionalism in performance and uniform
appearance. He excelled far beyond the performance of some
tenured supervisors. Even now, he takes time to mentor, inspire
and motivate officers — encouraging them to take college courses
towards an AA Degree in Criminal Justice so they can qualify for
the CPO Program. Soon, I began to hear PRAISE from many of
my clients about the “NEW” Field Supervisor we hired and how
“impressive and articulate” he was.
Jason joined G4S not looking for a job, he wanted a career.
I made my mark by excelling in all jobs assigned to me. Soon, I was given the
opportunity to be an Area Supervisor. Again, it was a great opportunity to learn and
move up. In 6 months, I was then promoted again to position of Bank Captain,
covering our Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley offices. These benchmarks
prepared me for my biggest challenge of all: Becoming an Operations Manager for
G4S Los Angeles.
I achieved all of my goals with in my first year at G4S.
When I hear the G4S name, a few things come to mind: Innovation, cutting edge
technology, the future of global security, and most of all — opportunity. I would have
to say it is the opportunities that G4S offers every employee that is its biggest
strength. G4S mentors all of its employees and this has allowed me to flourish. It
sets this organization apart from any other company in the industry.
G4S has done so much for me, but I know this is only the beginning, and I am
looking forward to a bright and prosperous future.
It wasn’t very long before Jason applied to be a Bank Captain, and
with his reputation and performance, he was the obvious choice for
this prestigious position. He then excelled in this role as well which
made it obvious that he was ready for the next step into a
management position.
Today, a little more than 2 years after he was hired, he is now the
Manager of Operations in Los Angeles. He continues to raise the
bar with innovative ideas, ensuring that our contract requirements
are met and that we exceed customers’ expectations. Jason has
motivated many to succeed as he strives daily to not only “Talk the
Talk” but “Walk the Walk” as well. Jason leads by EXAMPLE, and
he is THE EXAMPLE that hard work and dedication will PAY OFF.
G4S Receives Prestigious Seven Seals Award
Orlando, FL: The Florida Committee of the Employer Support
of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) recently honored G4S
with the elite Seven Seals Award at its Annual Planning and
Awards Conference.
The efforts of G4S and its employees to support the U.S. military,
specifically the efforts of national guardsmen and women, were
recognized in a ceremony for employers and ESGR volunteers.
The elite Seven Seals Award is the only Employer Support of
the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) award that bridges both the
employer and the ESGR volunteer recognition awards program.
The award was presented by ESGR officials to G4S Vice
President Eddy Esquivel.
The Florida ESGR Chair personally selects the Seven Seals
Award recipient. ESGR is a branch of the Department of
Defense that was originally created to promote cooperation
between Reserve and National Guard military members and
civilian employers. The Seven Seals Award is the highest
award given by the ESGR, and was created to publicly
recognize American employers who provide outstanding
patriotic support and cooperation to employees and families of
those that have been called to serve in the armed forces.

CPO Ruben Rendon at Security Officer of the Year Ceremonies at G4S Headquarters in Jupiter, Florida
Jupiter, FL: G4S security officer Ruben Rendon is being hailed as a hero by G4S and employees of a San
Antonio, Texas financial services company for his efforts to resuscitate a young boy who was found not
breathing. The little boy is now doing fine. For his life-saving actions, Rendon has been named 2012 G4S
‘Officer of the Year’, the highest honor a G4S officer can achieve.
Officer Rendon found mother Irene Gonzales panicking at her car, in the parking lot of the financial services
company where she works. She was on her way to the doctor’s office because her son was sick. She
jumped out of the car in distress when her son stopped breathing. Then Rendon arrived. After two CPR
breaths from Rendon, the child’s eyelids started to flutter. By the time emergency crews arrived, he was
breathing on his own and taken to the hospital.
At award ceremonies held at G4S headquarters in Jupiter, Florida, Rendon received a standing ovation
for his actions. Rendon says he joined G4S after he met other G4S officers— who he described as—
ultimate professionals. He said during a G4S training session, he was asked: “What’s the difference
between a security guard and a security officer?” Everyone in the class was offering answers such as:
observing, reporting or watching out for vandalism. The trainer pointed out that a security guard does only
the minimum. A G4S security officer does what is expected and more. A security officer is trained to save
lives. That stuck with Ruben and he knew then that he had found the right place to work.

Supports Team USA Track
and Field Trials
Eugene, OR: For the second time, G4S has supported the Team
USA Track and Field Trials at TrackTown, USA, Hayward Field,
University of Oregon. The Team USA Trials for Track and Field is the
largest national championship track event in the world. G4S
provided security during the two week contest where athletes
competed to represent Team USA at the London games in 2012.
G4S deployed approximately 60 Custom Protection Officers to this
event for core security functions including access control, security
screening, vehicle inspections, patrol and security response
G4S personnel supported law enforcement agencies, the University
of Oregon Police and the Oregon Track Club during the event.
Congratulations, G4S for a job well done. Thank you to all G4S
officers and administrative staff from Portland, Seattle, Las Vegas,
Reno and Phoenix who supported the Team USA Trials. We
appreciate the job you did at this important event.

Houston, TX: On day two of G4S Orientation
Training, the Training Manager suddenly fell
unconscious in front of his class. Several students
rushed to his aide as others directed the front desk
to dial 911. The students continued to work with the
Training Manager in order to keep him conscious
until EMTs arrived. All students were recognized with
a Certificate of Distinction, an award given to those
individuals who perform an act of valor above and
beyond the call of duty.
The trainer is okay.
Shot with Flare Gun, Officer Helps Nab Suspect
in Old Sacramento
Sacramento, CA: G4S security officer Kyle Karr is
recovering from injuries after being shot in the head
with a flare gun. Karr is being called a hero as he
pursued the shooter after getting shot. With blood
flowing from his head and streaming into his eyes,
he handcuffed the suspect as police arrived on
scene. The bizarre attack began when people in the
Old Sacramento area told Karr a man was
acting strangely, yelling and cursing in the streets.
Karr approached the man and told him to leave
the area. The man answered that he was going to
kill him. Karr backed away and called for back-up.
The suspect followed Karr and immediately pulled
a flare gun from under his shirt and shot him
in the face. The shooter ran away but Karr,
bloodied and injured, caught him. Police booked the
man on charges of assault with a deadly weapon
and battery.

Arlington, TX: G4S officer Curtis Bain helped save a
woman’s life while he was off-duty, at his favorite gym. Bain
noticed a woman had fallen down at a racquetball court and
her friends were panicking. Bain found the woman had
stopped breathing so his training kicked in! He began lifesaving CPR as another person grabbed the AED off the wall.
Officer Bain opened up the AED and let the machine do its
job. Paramedics arrived and took her to the hospital. Thanks
to Officer Bain and others, the woman survived. The event
was featured on the local news.
Because sometimes there are moments in a security officer’s career when
good training makes all the difference. These are stories about G4S security
officers who inspire us with their quick responses, acts of heroism and
uncompromising professionalism during emergency situations.

When Seconds Matter, Count on Team G4S to Save a Life

Plano, TX: They say time is essential when saving a
life. Emergency medical experts call it the “golden
hour” when referring to the 60 minutes they have
during trauma cases. But when someone is hit with
a heart attack, the medical timeline shrinks even
further to minutes and with every second that
passes, the survival rate drops.
G4S officers at the financial services company
administration office didn’t have time to think about
those statistics when they responded to a 9-1-1
medical emergency call to the third floor, building C
at 3:27 pm. They already knew what they were up
against, so they did what they do best: Respond
quickly, professionally and knowledgeably as a team.
Site supervisor Rick Schwyzer immediately called
control room officer, Loretta Walker, to ask that an
AED—- which was also on the third floor— be taken
to the patient. When he arrived to the emergency
scene, shift supervisor David Johns and officer
Gabriel Ramos were already there and two financial
company employees had already started CPR
on their co-worker. Sgt. Johns informed those
performing chest compressions that they should
continue while the AED started its analysis. Once
the AED instructed the team to clear the patient,
officer Ramos applied a life-saving shock at 3:33pm.
Paramedics arrived immediately after that and
took the patient—who now had a life-sustaining
heartbeat—- to the hospital.

life-saving work in about 6 minutes. Doctors know
that not everyone can be saved from sudden cardiac
arrest, but studies show that early defibrillation can
dramatically improve survival rates. That’s why the
surgeon at the hospital was later heard saying that if
the team did not act as quickly as they did and use
the AED on the patient, he may not have made it.
And yes, the patient is now recovering at home
thanks to this G4S team:
Site Supervisor Rick Schwyzer - Instructed responding officers to take AED to the scene.
Shift Supervisor David Johns – Once on scene, he
informed the employees giving compressions to the
patient to continue until the AED was applied and
made sure the AED was in place. He also gathered
the names and information of everyone involved.
Officer Gabriel Ramos – applied the AED to the
patient and took control of the life-saving effort. When
the AED advised, he applied the shock.
Officer Thomas Porea – escorted advanced life
support to the scene.
Officer Loretta Walker – maintained the command
center by directing officers and handling all
emergency radio traffic.
Eric Shaw – made sure emergency personnel
were routed to the area for fast, efficient access to
the scene.

Los Angeles, CA: The G4S teams from Los Angeles
and San Fernando Valley went digital to encourage
participation in the Revlon Run/ Walk for Women’s
Cancer. The teams created a web page to encourage
friends and family to donate to the cause. The team
raised more than $460. One e-mail to our teams via
the website stated: “…every dollar counts and will
bring us one step closer to hopefully finding a
cure…there is hope for our future.” Congratulations

Coordinates Food Drive
Louisville, KY: The G4S team gathered 90
pounds of non-perishable food for Dare to Care.
The agency partners with over 300 local, social

Omaha, NE: The G4S team and family members
participated in the local American Heart Association
(AHA) Walk. G4S Omaha raised more than $700
for local cancer programs and provided security for
the event.

Pensacola, FL: Emerald Coast General Manager
Patrick Dawson donated time and personal funds
to the George County High School JROTC
program. Dawson addressed the group and
answered questions about the military service and
his career. Thank you, Patrick for giving back to
the local community.

Philadelphia, PA: G4S employees raised money
for the Broad Street Run. Money raised goes to
the American Cancer Society.
Richmond, VA: G4S employees donated their time
for the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers Event.
Nashville, TN: G4S provided Security Officers for
the Mayor’s Field Day Event. This was a
partnership between the Mayor’s Office and the
Tennessee Titans for kids to meet and participate
with the Titans at the LP Football Field.
Columbia, SC: G4S employees Nancy Thackrah
and James Carter raised more than $3,000 for
the Relay for Life Festival.
Philadelphia, PA: G4S employees raised money
for the Tough Mudder Event. Money raised goes
to The Wounded Warrior Project. This foundation
raises money for veterans who have suffered
injuries in our conflicts abroad.
Chicago, IL: The G4S office made a donation to
the Benedictine University President’s Invitational
Golf Event. This event raises money for the
general student scholarship fund.
Miami, FL: G4S made a donation to the Love
Fund Inc. for the LEO Gala hosted by the Dade
County Police Benevolent Association. Proceeds
go directly to the Police Officers Assistance Trust
(POAT) and Brothers in Arms to help wounded
officers and their families.

Anaheim, CA: Officer Henry Martinez has been
recognized for his quick thinking and assistance to a
pregnant woman who was trying to make it to the Los
Alamitos Medical Center to deliver her baby. The baby
was arriving faster than everyone anticipated. So
officer Martinez, who operates the parking lot shuttle,
decided to calmly, yet urgently, detour to the
Emergency Room. Upon arrival, officer Martinez
retrieved a wheelchair and assisted the soon-to-be
mother on to the elevator. Officer Martinez’s quick
actions turned out to be important as the healthy baby
was delivered ten minutes later.

Point Beach Nuclear Plant security teams are welcoming back Corey Evenson, Nathan Schultz and Ryan
Ankerson from their deployments to Afghanistan. Each officer was overseas for about one year in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom. Many thanks to the officers for all they provide for our country. “We are
thankful for their safe return,” said PM Bob Beilke. “We look forward to working with them for many years.”

Welcome Home Heroes: Return To Point Beach
The team demonstrated its commitment to the community by donating the gift cards they received to two
charities: $500 was given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research and $500 was donated to the Shawn
Schneider Memorial Fund. Congratulations Charlie Team!
The security force members from ‘Charlie Team’ are being honored after receiving the Top Team Award.
They are the first team to repeat as Top Team winners since the beginning of the program in 2007. The
award is given each year to the security team based on several performance indicators such as safety,
tactical performance, written exam scores, action request submissions and training performance.
