What is NEXEDGE / NXDN ? • • Noun: Spelling: • Pronunciation: • NEX-EDGE “néks·ej” Definition: A Digital conventional and trunked radio system in 12.5kHz and 6.25kHz. Designed for local and wide area communications. Capable of migrating with existing analog systems also capable of IP Networking for wide are coverage. 4 What is NEXEDGE / NXDN ? • NEXEDGE – Is a trademark name of JVC KENWOOD Corporation and a generic term used when referring to KENWOOD‟s Digital Communication System • NXDN – Is a trademark name of JVC KENWOOD Corporation and ICOM Incorporated – NXDN refers to the Digital Air Interface protocol used by both JVC KENWOOD and ICOM – NXDN Forum opened the NXDN technical standards to the industry public in summer 2012. 5 TM NEXEDGE and NXDN TM Kenwood (NEXEDGE ) Icom (IDAS) Original application Original application TM NXDNTM (Air interface, FDMA, 6.25kHz) Supporting Basic Features ( voice call, etc.) • Kenwood and Icom agreed to promote NXDN CAI (Common Air Interface) 6 NEXEDGE and NXDN NXDN- 33 Forum Members, 2014 April http://www.nxdn-forum.com/members/index.html 7 Multimode / Easy Migration • NEXEDGE Equipment – Ready Today & Tomorrow – FM Analog at 25 and 12.5 kHz Channels – NXDN Digital Air Interface at 12.5 and 6.25 kHz. Success Stories Presentation by TOP COMMUNICATIONS LTD, MONGOLIA Copyright © 2014 KENWOOD All rights reserved. May not be copied or reprinted without prior written approval . G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit Security management • For the G8 Summit at Lake Toyako in Japan, which was held in July 2008, KENWOOD's NEXEDGE was chosen to provide radio communications for Japanese Government. • • Ministry officials wanted to link three sites - while allowing radio-to-radio communications within each area. Airport Medium Center During the Summit the system performed flawlessly and the Ministry expressed its satisfaction. 64Km 21.5Km 80Km Conference Site (Hotel) 60 The Venetian, Las Vegas Hospitality • • • Growth – With the addition of the Venezia Tower and the Palazzo the management needed to add another 1,000 radios to the 2,000 already in use. This was something that could not be achieved with their LTR system. Buying new frequencies was too expensive. Also, because it is a resort the Venetian‟s radios are used a great deal at night, when support is not easily available, so reliability is especially important. Migration – Fortunately the Venetian found exactly what was needed in NEXEDGE as it allowed them to migrate gracefully from their 12-channel analog system (12.5kHz), doubling capacity to 24 channels (6.25kHz). Being adaptable and scalable were important factors in this decision, but so too was cost. Other solutions would have meant purchasing and deploying 3,000 radios at once – a major investment and logistically problematic. Benefits – Meanwhile, the Venetian‟s considerable investment in analog radios, headsets, and batteries continues to serve the staff in other departments. But as the migration progresses, the digital benefits accrue. For example, in fringe areas and elevators where signal strength was a problem, voice quality is now crystal clear. 62 CN Tower, Toronto Telecommunication network operator • Capacity • Solution • Cost efficient – The CN Tower‟s new FDMA-based digital trunked system – with its 6.25 kHz capability ensuring clean, clear and defined signal propagation. This was not previously possible with the LTR system. – As the new system uses the same 450 MHz band, migration was smooth and the CN Tower is a very satisfied client. NEXEDGE has proved to be an ideal solution for the tower and for MBC, which has been serving the commercial SMR industry in southern Ontario. – Companies that had been using cellular are strongly attracted by the cost-efficient wide-area coverage made possible by NEXEDGE technologies and economical IP networking, as well as by the potential to exploit GPS and messaging capabilities. 63 Ontario-Quebec SMR Network, Canada OnQue Super wide area network system Will expand over 60 site, 1200km coverage 64 Radio system information Current Overview • Ontario area: 24 site, 104 channels, 4300 subscribers – Add more 6 sites in autumn 2012 • Quebec area: 6 site, 20 channels,950 subscribers Future plan • Number of site – Targeting in total 60 site • Coverage – Will cover 1200km as a whole area 65 SP-PSA International Port, Vietnam Port Operation • Winning out over strong competition, NEXEDGE was chosen by Singaporebased PSA International, the world's second largest port operator, for its new container operations in Vung Tau, Vietnam. • Workers at this large facility are now using over a hundred Kenwood radios and further expansion is scheduled. • 4ch VHF Trunking, 110 subscribers 66 Hessen Road Maintenance System, Germany Motorway maintenance • User: Building, Tunnel and service vehicles of the motorway maintenance area for summer and winter services. • The motorway maintenance area is 50–60 km. For this distance section operates approx. 35-50 vehicles. • VHF Conventional IP network • Switching from the existing analogue to a digital system 67 TGS (Turkish Ground Services), Turkey Airport Ground Services • Air terminals and cargo depots provide an ideal environment to demonstrate the advantages of digital radios, and TGS – which operates in six of Turkey‟s busiest airports – has joined the ranks of enthusiastic NEXEDGE adopters. • Orgen, the local distributor, provided a convincing argument for switching to Kenwood‟s flagship digital radio system from MPT trunking system, and TGS is already planning to deploy NEXEDGE at 35 sites by 2013. 68 Digital SMR Service, Malaysia ・ Analog trunked radio service for public and private network users in 800MHz were used in Malaysia in the past. Cause traffic congestion, missed calls, garbled messages, degraded voice quality ・ Government decide to switch from 800MHz to UHF 410-430MHz for public trunking network by Dec. 2015. ・ NEXEDGE main advantage is the ability to migrate from the current analog system to wider, better and clearer service. ・ NX-Digital by Mal-Tel Communication Sdn Bhd - Started building NEXEDGE trunked service in June 2011 - Already a few thousand subscribers by end 2012 - Targeting 50,000 subscriber units before Dec. 2015 for nationwide 69 More Success Stories • Airport – Vnukovo International Airport, Moscow, Russia • 2 site 6ch Trunking • Municipality Network – City of Nice, France • For Local police (w/GPS), Gabage collection • UHF Trunking System • Education – Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia • Conventional 2 Site UHF , 100 subscribers • SMR – Vertel, Sydney, Australia • 15 sites (Sydney 10, Melbourne 4, Perth 1 sites), 75ch Trunking • 500 subscribers 70 More Success Stories • Private Utilities & Co-Ops – WIN Energy, IN , USA • 5 sites of NEXEDGE UHF trunking at 12.5 kHz, microwave, with approximately 100 subscribers. • Hospitals – Beaumont Hospital , USA • 5 channel trunked sys. 6.25 kHz, 135 subscribers • Manufacturing – US Steel , USA • 3 site conventional non-networked UHF at 12.5 kHz with 50 subscribers – NUCOR Steel , USA • UHF Multi-site trunked syst., 18 channels, 6.25 kHz, over 800 subscribers • Hospitality/Gaming – Win-River Casino , USA • Multi-site UHF trunked system, UHF, 12.5 kHz 71 Presentation by TOP COMMUNICATIONS LTD, MONGOLIA www.topcom.mn
