Page 24 FREE Bailgate News, business, lifestyle and much more from Lincoln’s premier free magazine Two year celebrations for the ‘friendly’ gallery Art galleries are sometimes, with some justification, thought to be a bit snooty and elitist. Nothing could be further than the truth at The Little Red Gallery in Bailgate, which celebrates two years in business this month. This family run gallery started by art lover Hazel Venn celebrates modern art and artists and its ethos comes directly from Hazel. “I want everybody to enjoy the fantastic range of original artworks and prints on sale here. I believe it’s our job to show people a wide variety of contemporary art which they will hopefully buy and enjoy. There really is something to suit everyone”. Lincolnshire born Hazel decided to turn her love of art into a business and two years ago the Little Red Gallery was born. It’s now difficult to picture the Bailgate without this gallery, it’s such a perfect fit with the area. “I love running this business in the middle of this wonderful area. It’s a marvellous feeling when a Left: Ashley, Centre: Hazel and Right: Bethany with visiting artists Peter and Jayne Smith. visitor connects with a piece of art - this is what it’s all about for me,” said Hazel. Hazel runs the gallery with fellow art lovers Manager, Ashley Graham and Hazel’s daughter Bethany who lives on the third floor of this Victorian townhouse. Ashley, Bethany and Hazel are very knowledgeable about the art on show, and one of them is always on hand to advise. The final member of the team is Hazel’s son Alastair who 50 YE r overcoln AR S T in rad fo Lin ing Continued on page 3 Quality carpet, wood and laminate flooring - Amtico specialists. • Fully trained, experienced fitters. • • Nice people to do Informed sales staff. business with. The Little Red Gallery is loved by its customers and artists alike. The gallery has four main rooms over two floors and on the stairs there is a ‘signature wall’ with visiting artists’ signatures. “We have a great relationship with our artists, they often drop in, hence the signature wall,” said Ashley. And, of course, we love meeting new customers”. If you have seen a piece a of art you liked but has now gone from the gallery, Ashley or Hazel will check if it has been sold or just returned to the publisher to make room for new art. Contents Editor’s Comment Page 41 forty four Page 26 I noticed that Rick Metcalfe, City Council Leader has backed the call for employers to pay the ‘Living Wage’ if they can afford to do so. It’s very easy for people not in business to make that call. Like most people I agree in principle, but most small (and sometimes large) businesses suffer a lack of cashflow at times. Paying extra to staff now, could tip a company into trouble at a later date. Unless you are a cash rich business it’s very easy to get it wrong, resulting in laying people off or cutting hours - just the result not desired! Page 10 Page 13 Countryside extravaganza Page 6 A historic year for Lincoln Castle Page 8 Top speaker comes to Lincoln, New Brayford taxi 8 years for Croft Page 6 Fashion, new Steep Hill boutique I do wonder if politicians, from government to local level, really understand small businesses. You can’t make declarations of intent and expect businesses to follow that intent without some material help. Instead we are now told to increase pay, contribute to employees’ pensions, pay extortionate corporation tax (Limited Companies only) etc. Where will that money come from? Perhaps the extra pumped into public service pensions should be diverted to the lifeblood of the British economy - small business. The ‘Lincoln Castle Revealed’ project is now in its final stages, with the site set to re-open to the public on 1 April. The centrepiece of the £20m refurbishment is a new vault to house Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest, including an “in the round” cinema. There will also be a complete medieval wall walk (with disabled access), restored Victorian and Georgian prisons, and a new shop and café. Cllr Nick Worth, Lincolnshire County Council’s executive member for culture and heritage, said: “2015 is going to be one of the biggest years in the castle’s history. “Not only are we unveiling the new-look site for the first time, we’ll also be celebrating 800 years of Magna Carta. “The castle is the only place in the world where Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest can be seen together, and these improvements will give them the home they deserve. “This will put us on the map, both nationally and internationally, drawing thousands of visitors to the county and giving a major boost to the local economy.” The work has been funded by the county council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, the European Regional Development Fund and the David Ross Foundation. News Croft Carpets celebrate 8 years in business E ight years ago, experienced carpet retailer Simon Croft decided to form his own company, Croft Carpets. Initially Simon worked from home, taking carpet samples to clients. He quickly realised that people much prefer to actually visit a showroom and opened his first showroom on Wragby Road. Some four years later he moved to larger premises situated on 5-6 High Street Lincoln (opposite the Peugeot garage) as his business flourished and the demand for more space became increasingly more important. Simon has a vast knowledge of the carpet industry with his own personal career spanning over 30 years - the key to his success? The ability to offer a complete old fashioned service which customers appreciate. “If a customer wants furniture moving and old carpets taking away I will organise it,” says Simon. “We also offer a unique shop from home service, which means we will bring our shop to you, in the comfort of your own home - at your request. It's not a complicated concept it's simply one of good customer service”. www.martinsmithopticians.co.uk 22 Saltergate, Lincoln LN2 1DH Telephone: 01522 521 100 Simon also believes he can achieve much better prices than even the big multiples when buying and sourcing carpets. He has spent time working for large companies which has given him the experience to buy keenly enabling him to pass that saving on to his customers. Walking into his showroom you will be staggered at just how much choice is available. Ranges include Brockways, Britons, Mr Tomkinsons, Victoria, Penthouse, Cormar, Georgian, Kingsmead, BMK and many, many more. As well as carpets the company supplies and fits laminates, solid woods and quality cushioned floors. You will also find blinds and curtains. All fittings are guaranteed for 12 months and home visits are available. Croft Carpets' approach epitomises the sort of service people now expect and the growth of the business reflects that. While others might use a Saturday afternoon hairdresser’s appointment to relax and flick through a glossy magazine, Mindy, who set up her company Arora Marketing last year, is tapping furiously on her laptop. Mindy laughs. “I hate having my hair done, it’s such a waste of time. The day I found a hairdresser with great wifi all my dreams came true!” As they say, it takes one to know one. “I understand how busy entrepreneurs are,” says Mindy, who worked in London with big names like Calvin Klein PR, Unilever and Heat Magazine before moving to Lincolnshire with her RAF Typhoon pilot husband to start a family and work as a Business Studies teacher. “So I’ve tried to deliver a personal service that gives them what they need so they are free to deal with clients.” The company aims to help transform time-poor small businesses by boosting their online and social media presence. “I like to get to know the client’s business inside and out,” Mindy says. “Then I think I’m well placed to conjure up creative and relevant ideas to help promote them. I’m reliable, very available and driven by success.” Typically, Mindy first sits down with the client to identify the gap in their needs - whether sharpening up (or starting from scratch) a website or Facebook page, looking after site rankings, logos, branding and competitor analysis, or managing promotion in print media. The results speak for themselves. Personal trainer Craig Barton saw his website go from nigh-on invisible to the top of popular search engines after working with Mindy. “My business grew by 25% in just two months of using Arora Marketing,” he says. “Mindy’s knowledge of marketing is incredible, she is very professional and a great communicator - she’s really fun to work with.” Or Premier Clean, a Lincoln cleaning agency whose owner Marie says: “I couldn’t recommend Arora enough. Everything is tailored to your individual needs and extremely cost effective. Our results to date have been amazing.” Other Arora Marketing clients include: Mark’s Passenger Services, Total Approach and West Heath Primary Care Centre. If you’d like to find out how Arora Marketing might be able to help your business, book a consultation with Mindy. You won’t be under any obligation and you’ll find her very approachable - just don’t be surprised if you can hear a muffled hair dryer in the background. The Tower Hotel sited adjacent to the castle walls on Westgate, just off Bailgate, has regular refurbishments to refresh and keep the venue an interesting place to visit. The latest of these is a makeover to the dining room. This L-shaped room is a great dining space, not too big to feel impersonal but not so small you are bumping into people! It’s a gorgeous place in which to dine. The latest changes incorporate muted coloured walls interspersed with striped wallpaper and contrasting gold patterned curtains to give a sophisticated, modern look. There are lovely and interesting accessories throughout to avoid it looking bland - it’s absolutely NOW. If you haven’t dined at the Tower before, give it a try. Their award winning chef Darren Rogan is very inventive and the food is mouthwatering. As well as offering the traditional method of char grilling steak, Darren has recently added as an alternative, the 'Sous Vide' style of cooking steak. ‘Sous-Vide’ is a cooking technique using a water-bath, set at a constant temperature to evenly cook your steak throughout. This method of cooking stores all of the flavours and moisture within your steak, intensifying flavours and textures and ensuring you get your Steak exactly and consistently how you order it. Your Rib-Eye or Fillet Steak is vacuum-sealed and cooked over a period of time, at a temperature set to cook your steak evenly throughout however you have requested it; be it anything from ‘Blue’ to ‘Well-Done’, and finished off on the griddle to seal your meat to perfection. This method of cooking removes human error ensuring you have exactly what you ask for, every single time. A whole range of steaks can be cooked accurately using the ‘Sous-Vide’ method. From the left: is steak cooked ‘blue’, ‘rare’, ‘medium rare’, ‘medium’, ‘medium well’ and ‘well done’. 24 The Tower has also introduced a number of special nights over the coming months with a steak night every Wednesday (6pm - 9pm) offering ‘Steak and Chip’s, ‘Surf and Turf ’, ‘Steak and Baked’ and News ‘Spanish’ steak dishes. The first Thursday of every month is music night featuring local musicians. Enjoy a casual dinner while you listen to some really great music. The Tower is also promoting their Christmas Evening Menu, a six course menu at £30 per person. Book early - these get booked up very quickly. Every Tuesday is ‘Pie & Pint’ night where you can enjoy one of Darren’s gorgeous pies with a pint at a special all-in price. You may eat in the more casual environment of the bar as well as the restaurant. Afternoon teas are also popular at the Tower - great in the winter in the restaurant or in the summer on the outside patio overlooking the castle walls. Or of course if you prefer A La Carte you can enjoy dishes such as starters ‘Poached Alfred Enderby Smoked Haddock Dumplings and ‘Black Pudding Scotch Egg’ or mains ‘36 hour Redhill Pork Belly’, ‘Twice Baked Pea Soufflé’ or ‘Pan Seared Fillet of Fresh Water Bream’. As you would expect this can be followed by a super range of desserts including ‘Apple & Pear Eton Mess’ ‘Blueberry, White Chocolate & Pecan Tart.... delicious! Visit the website for the latest menus. It’s quite obvious that the Tower cares about its customers and strives to keep this different and exciting for both the bar and restaurant - if only more dining venues were like this! Louise had a brilliant day and evening on Valentine’s Day Our Winner Our lucky Valentine’s competition winner this year was local resident Louise. Rachel Bishop accompanied Louise and tells us about her special day. Louises’s Day Louise tries on some of the beautiful clothes at Agatha and (left) receives her gift voucher from Holly. Trevor Gibbs from Kodak Express and I met up with Louise this for a quick coffee at Carluccios before starting our day. We then headed to Agatha Boutique where we were greeted by Roberta, Hollie and Chloe. They chatted with Louise to get a good feel for her style and what she loves to wear, and then selected some great outfits, they really encouraged her to try different styles and experiment with colour and presented her with a £100 gift voucher. I’d recommend anyone to let the Agatha team advise them to liven up their wardrobes. Our next stop was Pip Littlewood’s new salon on Steep Hill, where we enjoyed fresh coffee and homemade fudge while Pip gave Louise a consultation and then proceeded to cut and blow dry her hair. The salon was really inviting and Trevor and I enjoyed sitting in the window seat , chatting to Pip’s wife, Cally and people watching from the Next stop, Pip Littlewood Hair for a consultation with Pip on Louise’s hair. window, while Pip styled Louise’s hair into a stylish bob. Making Your Ideas Grow Newark Road, South Hykeham, Lincoln, LN6 9NT e: [email protected] 01522 880033 www.pennells.co.uk News Thinking inside the box How refreshing it is to see a business thinking outside of the box. Well ‘inside the box’ in the case of Mortgage Minders (Lincoln) Ltd. Managing Director, Helen Brandon-Snell, has always pushed to deliver exceptional customer service to each and every client. Remembering her grandmother’s wise words of treating everyone as she’d like to be treated herself, you’ll not find hard sell, restricted opening hours or that all frustrating silence as you stand waiting to be acknowledged as you walk in the office. No, you’ll most probably be greeted with a beaming smile from Ryan, her son, or the newest recruit to this friendly team – Andrea. You’ll enjoy the warmest welcome you’ve probably ever experienced in Financial Services. Maybe this is the key to their success. Much of their business is gained by personal referral from existing clients and professional contacts, which is wonderful. Slick administration systems are a given and essential to ensure that mortgage and insurance applications are processed smoothly and efficiently, taking away the stress and strains to grateful clients. Exceeding expectations and working to tight deadlines are all part and parcel of daily life at Mortgage Minders. Historically, clients have always been presented with a ‘little something’ at the end of the process. Accompanied by a card and questionnaire to assess their experience. Although a lovely touch, Helen felt that her clients deserved something more. She commissioned Mortgage Minders branded keyrings, not just any old keyrings, these doubled up as radiator keys. How useful, you can never find those when you need them. Not content with these clever little keyrings Helen came up with the idea of a more personal and useful present. This was when the ‘Moving Day Emergency Kit’ was born. A box full of everything to make that all important cuppa on moving day. Open the lid to find a kettle, mugs, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, stirrer, scrummy biscuits. As with the advice and service, this little gem is tailored to the client’s individual preferences. The last box delivered to the Estate Agents the day before completion included decaf tea and coffee for the lady as this was her preference. It is no surprise therefore that damp problems are a common occurrence. If left untreated damp can lead to ruined decoration, timber decay, rot and mould. In extreme cases it can even affect structural timbers. It is important therefore that damp problems are identified as early as possible to minimise the cost of repairs. When considering damp issues there are three main types of damp commonly found in residential properties: Rising Damp, Penetrating Damp and Condensation. Identifying the correct type of damp is the first step to being able to arrange suitable repairs. 1. Rising damp This is water that enters a building from the ground through the floors and walls. It carries hydroscopic salts, which it then deposits on wall surfaces as it evaporates. The salts then attract moisture from the air, which cause damp wall surfaces and break down plaster and decorations. Symptoms include stained wall and floor surfaces, peeling paint and wallpaper. Older properties can be vulnerable to rising damp where the original damp proof course (DPC) has failed or does not exist. Damp proof courses can also be bridged by raised internal floor surfaces or external ground levels. Rising damp can be costly and disruptive to remedy, with internal plaster work needing to be removed and either a new plastic membrane or injection damp proof course installed. 2. Penetrating damp This is water that enters a building through leaks in walls, windows, doors or roofs. Older solid wall properties are often vulnerable as there is no cavity to prevent the water from reaching the inner surface of the building. To prevent water penetrating a building it is important that rainwater guttering, external brickwork, pointing and rendering, roof and chimney flashings, window and door seals and window sill throats are regularly checked and well maintained. 3. Condensation This is the most common form of damp found in residential properties. It occurs when moisture in the air from everyday living activities such as washing up, bathing, drying clothes inside and even breathing gets trapped inside a property and reaches a cold surface, often a window or external wall, whereupon it condenses causing ideal conditions for mould growth. Modern homes are well sealed, which can lead to a lack of ventilation, trapping the water vapour within, whilst older homes often have poorer thermal efficiency, leading to lower internal temperatures and cold surfaces. Condensation can be eradicated by ensuring that your property is always adequately ventilated and that it is well heated during the colder winter months. When purchasing a property an RICS Home Survey will identify any such damp problems, allowing you to either avoid often costly and disruptive remedial works or re-negotiate the purchase price to allow you to carry out the necessary repairs after completion. If you are currently purchasing a new home and would like to discuss the different survey options available please do not hesitate to contact our professional survey and valuation team at either our Lincoln (01522 538888) or Horncastle offices (01507 522222). e: [email protected] Separating couples need the right advice JOHN MITCHELL, HEAD OF FAMILY LAW, SILLS & BETTERIDGE SOLICITORS C ouples who separate now face an ever expanding array of methods by which they can reach decisions on how to divide their assets and ensure that there is financial support for themselves and their children. Parents are also naturally anxious to ensure that their children are protected as much as possible from the fall out of the parental separation. Mediation, Collaboration, Arbitration as well as the traditional Court hearing are all put forward as ‘the best way’ to deal with all of these issues. At Sills & Betteridge, we aim to ensure that every client has a tailor made plan which is best for them. Sometimes it will be meeting with a Mediator who can help them reach agreement without the need to go to Court. Sometimes a Collaborative arrangement can be made where both clients meet to reach agreement without going to Court but have their respective Lawyers with them in that process. At other times there is no choice but to go to Court to ensure that proper financial disclosure is made and that assets including pensions are divided fairly. We have a large number of Family Lawyers whose expertise ranges from businesses to pensions, inheritance to child abduction, from farming to prenuptial agreements as well as the vast array of other issues which may arise. We have specialists in other areas including commercial, conveyancing, trusts and probate and can draw on their expertise when required. 34 The issues can be complex and at times overwhelming and our Lawyers are there to help guide clients through the many different issues that arise from separation. In addition we ensure that the best possible independent advice is obtained when non legal expertise is required whether it be from valuers, accountants, pension actuaries (or sometimes even from a therapist). We also have recourse to leading Barristers when matters are especially difficult. We are mindful that separation affects not only the couple and their children but other relatives as well and it may be extremely important to take into account the relationship grandparents may have, and need to be protected. We ensure that our staff are fully equipped in dealing with any changes in the Law. For example a recent decision on spousal maintenance may be particularly significant for a wife who has been in a long marriage and was not necessarily expected to work during that relationship. We have Lawyers equipped to advise on that issue and when it is appropriate for there to be a ‘Clean Break’ as opposed to an ongoing financial commitment by one spouse to the other. We are conscious that nowadays families take many forms and we ensure that married couples, same sex couples and cohabitees can all receive appropriate and specialist advice. If you or someone you know would benefit from confidential advice please contact us on 01522 542211. We always go the extra mile... Business Energy Performance and the Private Rental Sector SAM O'MAY, SENIOR BRANCH How will the county’s small business employers cope with the challenge of Auto-enrolment? MANAGER AT HE LETTINGS CHIS HUBBARD, PARTNER, STREETS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS T he first quarter of 2015 has already proven to be an important time for residential landlords, with the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) issuing their response to the public consultation into Private Rented Sector Energy Efficiency Regulations (Domestic) on 5th February 2015. Since October 2008 it has been a legal requirement for landlords to provide an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for properties made available to rent. The Energy Act 2011 then placed a duty on the Secretary of State to bring into force regulations to improve the energy efficiency of buildings in the domestic and non-domestic private rented sector across England and Wales. The consultation sought views on the proposals regarding the detail of the regulations and the response confirmed that by April 2016, subject to Parliamentary approval, tenants will have the right to request consent for energy efficiency improvements to be made to the homes they rent and where Green Deal finance or subsidies are available to pay for them, the landlord will not be able to unreasonably refuse the request. Secondly and perhaps even more far-reaching, the introduction of minimum energy efficiency standards will mean that from April 2018, landlords will be required by law to improve the energy efficiency rating on their property to at least a Band “E” otherwise it will be against the law to let the property (except where exemptions apply) with financial penalties imposed where the law is breached. The response to the consultation appears to have been generally well received across the property sector, with many observers recognising the benefits to both landlords and tenants through the utilisation of the Green Deal subsidies and other such schemes to help fund improvements and increase the energy efficiency of older, draughtier properties in the private rental sector. Nevertheless, the introduction of such legislation will be an important consideration for buy to let investors, as a poor energy rating on a property bought now, could prevent the property being let later, unless the necessary improvements are made to comply with the law at the time. Similarly, current landlords must now begin to anticipate those potential requests for consent to carry out energy efficiency improvements in a little over 12 months’ time and therefore, it may be prudent to consider implementing some of those improvements sooner rather than later… At HE lettings, we offer free, no obligation drop in sessions at our offices on Oakwood Road, Lincoln each Wednesday afternoon and if you are a prospective investor or a seasoned landlord, please feel free to come and see us to discuss your individual property needs. Alternatively, please call us on 01522 698 899 and we will be delighted to assist. A uto-enrolment is a legislative requirement for employers to provide employees with a workplace pension. Auto-enrolment seeks to address the fact that the majority of workers are not saving enough for retirement. Whilst many employers may have heard about Auto-enrolment, either from correspondence from the Pensions Regulator or through TV and press advertising, most, unless they are classed as a large or medium employer with 50 or more staff, may not have concerned themselves with its impact. Perhaps now is the time to really start to think about it, as over the next 12 to 18 months those that employ 1 or more and up to 50 staff will be required to set up and implement an Auto-enrolment scheme. Where then do you start with dealing with Auto-enrolment? The starting point for most employers is to find out when your staging date is.You are more than likely to have received a letter from the Pensions Regulator advising of this, if you have filed it away safely or it is under that pile on the desk, now is time to dig it out. If you can’t find such correspondence, the easiest thing to do is to visit the Pension Regulator’s website and enter your payroll number to ascertain your staging date. It is important to note this date is set in law. The next stage is to formulate a plan for the introduction and ongoing management of Auto-enrolment within your organisation. To make life simple, there in essence are five main areas that those implementing Auto-enrolment need to consider: 1 The workforce - identify those workers to be enrolled and the process of communicating enrolment to them. A process for which you may benefit from is an HR specialist with experience of dealing with Auto-enrolment. 2 Record keeping and payroll processing - assessing whether your payroll process and software are robust enough to deal with Auto-enrolment. Perhaps, given the increasing level of payroll compliance, you may need to purchase new payroll software or even outsource payroll to a payroll bureau. 3 Choosing a pension scheme - whether you have pension scheme in place or not you need to ensure you have one that satisfies the requirements of Autoenrolment. Advice on pension suitability can be obtained from pension’s advisers or from one of the national pension providers including NEST, Now and the People’s Pension. 4 Assess the financials - including cash flow, the impact of Auto-enrolment and ensure you update this. Revise budgets and forecasts accordingly. 5 Based on these points, plan the steps and actions you will take to meet your staging date deadline. Experience shows that the journey from starting work on your introduction for Auto-enrolment can typically take up to 12 months, even for the most efficient, well resourced and good intentioned employer. Whether the steps outlined fill you with dread or not, there is a plethora of advice and support out there, not least on the Pensions Regulator’s website www.thepensionregulator.gov.uk. At Streets, as part of our support for clients facing the challenges of dealing with Auto-enrolment, we have produced an easy to read guide on Auto-enrolment, which can be downloaded by visiting our website www.streetsweb.co.uk or by or email [email protected]. Accountants at Duncan & Toplis are also hearing about many people taking the bold step of starting their own business. Come and witness live fire demonstrations and have your questions answered by knowledgeable stove experts while supporting a brilliant cause! Light refreshments and champagne will be offered, and children of all ages are welcome to this event. How much should I charge? How much cash will I need to get started? What equipment will I need? What records do I need to keep? How much tax will I pay? Do I need to register for VAT? The need for initial cash to start the business and the requirement for cash on a day to day basis should form a major part of the planning for any new business. As part of this, agreeing terms from the outset with suppliers and, if relevant, customers, is important to ensure the business will have sufficient funds to trade and grow. Many profitable businesses have failed due to a lack of cash. Those starting out should draw up a cash flow forecast showing the expected cash incomings and outgoings to identify any potential shortfalls. This forecast should be realistic and include provision for unexpected changes e.g. sales being less than expected or customers delaying payment. It is also important that this forecast is updated on a regular basis as the business grows. The financing of equipment for the business should also be considered as part of the cash planning. With many options available the decisions made will affect both the cash required and, if relevant the timing of any VAT reclaim. When that business also includes special requirements and ethical issues it’s even harder. However, Chris Swain has managed it and his family run company, Skip Hire Lincoln, has become a leader in its sector. With hard work and a back of iron, along with the help of his brother and sons, together with a strong team of dedicated and enthusiastic employees, Chris strives to provide the highest service to his customers and Skip Hire Lincoln has now become a recognised name within the industry. Chris is passionate about recycling and the importance of reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfill, in order to protect our environment. Once the waste is collected, it is brought back to the waste management facility where waste is sorted by hand wherever possible, in an effort to maximise the amount that can be recycled. Having worked in the waste management industry for a number of years, Chris saw an opportunity to set up his own clearance service, later introducing skip hire, as he had noticed nobody else offered this choice of service. In order to fuel his passion for recycling, Chris also set up his own waste management facility, using his own techniques and style, based on what he had learnt over the years, with the emphasis on making the recycling process more efficient. “There are three very important factors to remember when talking about waste; reduce, re-use and recycle,” says Chris. “It is vital that we all make decisions about what we throw away and how we dispose of it. Sometimes, however, the amount of waste we produce is considerable and that is why it is important to recycle the materials we use wherever possible. Recycling is a pivotal process that has reshaped manufacturing and our everyday lives. It has a huge impact on the environment and our own future on the planet”. Skip Hire Lincoln is a registered waste carrier and specialises in rubbish clearance in Lincoln and surrounding villages, offering the finest solutions for both residential and commercial clients. As operators of their own facility, their commitment to ethical waste management ensures they reduce, re-use and recycle as much as possible. The company has gone from strength to strength. A single recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours. 2. Every year 18 million tonnes of waste is land filled in the U.K. land sites. 3. Each tonne of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 4000KW of energy and 7000 gallons of water 4. 70% less energy is required to recycle paper compared with making it from raw materials. 5. On average every person in the UK throws away their own body weight in rubbish every seven weeks 6. On average, 16% of the money you spend on a product pays for the packaging, which ultimately ends up as rubbish.
