Market Overview

According to Nationwide, the price of a typical house decreased in December, leaving prices 1.0% lower than the same
period in 2011.
The proportion of the asking prices being achieved has remained at 93.2% in December, Hometrack figures show.
According to Home.co.uk, supply remains low, with the fewest properties on the market since May 2010.
Rightmove figures show that the average number of properties for sale, per estate agent, has decreased compared to last
month, now standing at 68.
Home.co.uk reports that the typical (median) time on market has increased five days to 129 days since November, which is a
significant nine days less than in December 2011.
According to Hometrack.co.uk, affordability constraints and unwillingness by households to take on debt will continue to act
as a drag on the housing market in 2013.
New sellers have chopped an average of £7,772 (-3.3%) off asking prices this month. While this is the largest monthly
decrease ever reported by Rightmove, it follows an established pattern of December drops over the previous eight years.
