Western Star trucks were designed for hauling in
the western portion of the US and Canada. Owned by
White, the company began building Western Stars in 1967
at Kelowna, BC. After Volvo purchased White, Western
Star became an independent company based in Canada.
Western Star moved production to Portland, OR, in 2002,
and is now headquartered in Redford, MI, a subsidiary of
Daimler Trucks.

Left: Robert Ward of Davenport, IA, sent this photo
of an International Transport rig after reading
Michael Hubert’s story about that company. It is a
late 1960s Western Star, No. 6901, which made it a
Canadian Division rig. Robert photographed it at the
Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, IA. [Instead of running
it with Robert’s letter on page 2, we thought it
made a nice addition to the Western Star
photo gallery.—SSS]
