Each cabin is equipped with a queen-size bed and two bunk beds (linens and pillow cases provided), sleeps up to six and has its own small refrigerator. The private bath is furnished with wash cloths and towels. Our staff will take out the trash and provide fresh towels for your cabin on Wednesday. Each cabin has a box fan and several floor heaters. They will heat up quickly, so keep this in mind if you plan on leaving them on during the night. It is our heart that you are comfortable during your stay. If for any reason you are not comfortable or have any concerns regarding your cabin, or if you need anything during your stay please contact a staff member. How do I reserve activities ahead of time? No reservations are necessary for any of the on camp activities. We will be happy to help you arrange any off-camp activities – just let a staff member know what activities you’d like information on or reservations for and it will be our pleasure to assist you. Can I Build a Campfire? Enjoy the crackling sounds and fragrant aroma of an evening campfire. The campfire site is up the mountain above the camp. The view from there is incredible and inspiring. We also have a nice campfire site near our pond. Fun for the whole family – and we will provide the s'mores! What is Connection? Connection is an informal time with adults where important family topics are discussed and ideas exchanged. The kids have their own connection time as well. Our family counselors will spend time with them discussing different Bible passages, stories and how to apply them to their lives. What is the Lodge? The Sky Ranch Lodge is a gathering place designed for relaxation and fellowship and is where all meals will be served. The comfortable sofas and chairs make the perfect resting spot. Water and coffee will be available beginning at 6:30 am. When it’s meal time, you’ll hear the famous dinner bell, once for when there are 10 minutes left until the meal and one more time when we are ready to serve. Is there a camp store? Yes! The camp Store is a great place to visit and explore. In addition to shirts, caps, souvenirs and a selection of sundries and personal items, the store has a wide variety of snacks and beverages for purchase that will keep you going between meals. The store also has a unique and interesting exhibit of Ute Trail history on display. What if I have an emergency? If you have an emergency during non-business hours or if there is a medical emergency, dial 9-911 by using the phone in the main office. Pick up the receiver and dial '9' to get an outside line. After dialing '9' proceed to dial 911. Tell the dispatcher that you are at Sky Ranch Ute Trail on Hwy 149, directly in front of mile marker 83. You should meet the ambulance in front of the Lodge. Please inform the Camp Director if there is an emergency and if an ambulance has been called. 6 Are pets allowed? No, for the safety of all guests, Sky Ranch is a pet-free environment. Are laundry facilities available? Washers and dryers are available for your convenience. However, we encourage you to pack enough clothing for your family members for the week. Directions to Ute Trail Maps and directions to Sky Ranch Ute Trail are available on our website at www.skyranch.org/family-camp. Please note that when driving south on State Highway 149 you will pass through Powderhorn, CO and proceed to mile marker 83. You will see all of the red roofs to the west. Some of the online mapping systems do not provide accurate directions. If you are flying into Colorado, we recommend arriving at Gunnison-Crested Butte Airport, Montrose Regional Airport or Denver International Airport. Mailing address for Ute Trail: Sky Ranch Ute Trail 1329 Hwy 149 Powderhorn, CO 81243 Climate and Weather Information Weather - We enjoy over 300 days of sunshine every year and a cool, dry climate. Summer daytime highs are typically in the 70s or low 80s F. Lows in the summer are in the 40s or upper 30s F. Temperatures at higher elevations are usually lower than in town. A jacket and/or sweater is recommended for your visit during the summer. View current weather readings and forecasts at http://www.lakecity.com/weather.html Thunderstorms are typical daily occurrences during the summer, especially during July and August, so be sure to pack your rain gear. Locally, we refer to this as the “monsoon” or rainy season. Stay off of ridges and away from open ground to avoid lightning strikes. Longer hikes are best started early in the morning so that you can be down off the mountain when the lighting starts. Outdoors - It is essential to wear eye protection, a hat, and sunscreen when outdoors. The sun is many times more intense here than in areas of lower altitude. Insects and mosquitoes love Lake City as much as people, especially in summer. Be sure to pack insect repellent and use it frequently when you plan on being outdoors. Altitude - Gains in altitude can affect anyone, especially when traveling above 7,000 feet. Sometimes, the effects can include: headaches, breathlessness, fatigue, nausea or vomiting, inability to sleep, and swelling of the hands, face, or feet. Some ways to reduce your symptoms: avoid strenuous activity for the first day or two of your visit, drink extra water, and avoid alcohol. Check with your doctor before going to high altitude if you have a heart or lung condition. If your symptoms worsen, consult a doctor immediately. 7 Packing List for Family Camp Toiletries* Toothbrush Toothpaste Soap Shampoo Hair dryer Other personal items & toiletries Allergy medication Headache/fever/pain meds Prescription medications Personal first aid kit Clothing Shorts Sweatpants Pj's Hat Jeans Swimsuit Tennis shoes or walking shoes Water shoes Light jacket/fleece Rain jacket Miscellaneous Items Bible Flashlight Camera Journal Backpack or tote bag Fly fishing gear Bug spray Sunglasses Sun block Lip balm Attire/props for talent show, western dance, and 50s night *Sky Ranch provides linens, wash cloths, and bath towels. Sky Ranch’s faith and character development program is divided into three parts, and it’s called the LifeMap. As your child grows older, he or she will progress through each phase until the completion of the program. Phase 1: Learn Beginning with our first-time campers and going through the early teen years, Phase 1 creates a culture where kids learn foundational concepts that build strong character and vibrant faith. Phase 2: Experience In Phase 2 camps students begin the C.O.R. Leadership Track based on I Corinthians. These camps are designed to stand alone or tie together over the course of six summers to help develop a deep faith and the character of a servant leader. Campers are challenged to dig deeper beyond their childhood beliefs as they begin to challenge their thinking and their faith. Phase 2 is an immersion into experiences that help turn teens into Christ-centered servant leaders. Phase 3: Become As young adults, some campers choose to become counselors. Phase 3 is the fusion of content, context, and the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of young adults as they prepare for their adult years, all while giving back to the next generation of children. It is our hope that the Sky Ranch program can have an eternal impact on your child’s life by being an instrumental element of their spiritual and personal growth. We hope each phase will challenge them and help them move forward to become the person God created them to be. 14
