HIX recently tested two equal machines; a stock HIX press with black
PTFE, non stick coated heat platen and one without the coating. We
hooked up a voltage meter to each to measure how much electricity
each machine uses. The non coated heat platen on our standard stock
heat press used 43% less electricity to operate than the heat press with
the Black PTFE coating! How can this be true? The answer is simple
and it’s physics!
In physics there is a phenomena called “Black Body Radiation” where
the color black not only absorbs more IR heat, it also radiates and therefore uses more heat. Science doesn’t lie; the customer and work area
around the machine will be a cooler, as well as lower air conditioning bill
will be noticed during the peak summer season.

HIGH VOLUME
The HIX High Output Super Shuttle HOSS automatic press was created for high volume production applications. This press is fully automatic
with four 16”x20” alternating work stations and can produce up to 600 finished shirts per hour.
The HOSS is fully automatic, all the operator(s) needs to do is load the shirt/transfer on the pallet to the right (it cycles automatically), and
then load a shirt/transfer on the left pallet (it cycles automatically) when the right pallet returns, peel the transfer and repeat the process.
*Production formula: 6 sec. machine cycle + 6 sec. transfer time = 12 sec. total time per transfer; 12 sec. per transfer = 5 transfers per min.

MUG OVEN & MUG WRAPS
SUBLIMATING WITH HIX “SNAP” WRAPS
For sublimation to occur, a dye needs to be heated in order to sublimate into a
gas. Pressure is needed to create a proper contact with the substrate and to
assure a detailed definition of the final image.
Mug Wrap
Traditional mug presses combine both compression and heating in one device.
The advantage of the HIX Mug Wrap is that it separates those two actions: the
wrap provides the pressure while an external source (kitchen convection oven
or industrial size SubliPro Oven) provides the heat. This avoids the accelerated
wear-and-tear on a mug press heaterband the industry is still struggling with.
To sublimate on a small scale, the use of a small kitchen-style convection oven
such as the commercially available Breville BOV-800XL works well as it can hold
4 mugs allowing the customer to print about 16 mugs per hour.
Dog Bowl Wrap
For a production of a hundred to several hundred mugs per hour, the HIX
SubliPro Mug Oven is the perfect choice. As the only one of its kind in the
industry, the oven can sublimate on a variety of substrates: wide, tall, short,
white, colored or black, as tall as 8.5”. This includes an ever growing variety of
sizes and shapes such as cat & dog bowls, shot glasses, beer steins, latte
mugs, glasses, drinking bottles, etc.
With the redesigned and repositioned heaters combined with an advanced
airflow circulation, HIX was able to narrow the temperature variation within the
oven chamber to within 10-15F, sufficient to satisfy even the most demanding
and unforgiving substrates (such as black mugs and top-to-bottom sublimation).
The even temperature profile, the larger door opening and the advanced cooling
system at the exit end of the conveyer, the stainless steel belt, all represent a
significant upgrade over our previous mug oven design.
