Basel l Switzerland Jet Aviation Basel – Growing alongside business aviation In 1967, Carl Hirschmann, founder of Jet Aviation, rented a hangar at the Basel airport and established a maintenance facility. He understood that business aviation was coming to Europe, and he knew that reliable maintenance services would be essential. As the company grew and expanded internationally, Hirschmann also foresaw that individuals would buy big airplanes and then want highly customized interiors for those aircraft. With that in mind, he bought an old Cathay Pacific Convair 880, installed a luxury interior and took it to the 1977 Paris Air Show. Completions became a specialty at Jet Aviation, which now has one of the largest completions centers in the world. In 2008, Jet Aviation Basel added a new wide-body hangar large enough to work on any wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A380. Our skilled employees make it possible to do all aspects of even elaborate completions in-house, saving you time and guaranteeing premium quality. 2 Today, in addition to its extensive maintenance and completions capabilities, Jet Aviation Basel is a leader in avionics, refurbishment and paint services. Thanks to this broad expertise, you can have all of your needs taken care of in a single downtime. Jet Aviation Basel is located at EuroAirport BaselMulhouse-Freiburg, which is operated jointly by Switzerland and France. Basel is the third largest city in Switzerland and shares borders with both Germany and France. It functions as a major center for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and is important to the banking sector as home to the Bank for International Settlements and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. The city also hosts trade shows such as Art Basel, Orbit and the “Basel World” watch and jewelry show. At Jet Aviation Basel you can benefit from more than 40 years of experience. We have grown with the business aviation sector and remain at the forefront of new developments. Let us put our experience to work for you. 3 Design Matching your vision Our designers are specialists for aircraft interiors. This means that in addition to making sure you get the exact look you want, our staff is also experienced at meeting aviation requirements, maximizing space and mini mizing cost. Our team of more than 20 interior designers is here to listen to you. They will not only create your design or work with external designers, but also represent you through the engineering, production and installation processes. 4 Our interior design team is supported by a large number of craftsmen specialized in areas such as upholstery and cabinetry. This means that we can meet requests for extravagant luxury designs, such as those involving intricate wood inlay, embroidered wall textiles and hand-painted ceilings. Our advanced, highly experienced technical teams also make it easy for designers to include advanced lighting and entertainment systems in their plans. The executive interiors we design often include bedrooms, custom-designed bathrooms with showers, conference rooms, galleys, restroom areas and exclusive entertainment systems. We also have extensive experience with additional entertaining, working and sleeping spaces that can be installed in wide-body aircraft. Our interior designers have a complete overview of the project and accompany you from initial sketches all the way through to aircraft delivery. We have the skills and experience to make sure that your lifestyle is reflected in the design of your cabin. With our teams of designers and craftsmen, we can make your vision a reality. 5 Completions I Outfitting Making your cabin a personalized space We have the skills and experience to create the cabin interior you envision. The cooperation between our production staff, interior designers and engineers creates a broad base of capabilities that allows us to offer the highly customized, high-quality interiors that bring clients from around the world to our facility. Our engineers become involved early in the design process, advising you and the designer about the structural and electrical requirements of proposed interiors. The final design plans and detailed layout are passed on to our production shops and then receive in-house certification. With our completions staff of over 800 professionals, Jet Aviation Basel has become one of the world’s largest organizations in the VIP and business aircraft completions field since 1977. We have the capability and experience to outfit “green” aircraft, not only for smaller and medium-size jets but also for airliner type aircraft like Airbus A319/320, A330, A340, A380, Boeing 727, 737, BBJ as well as Boeing 747, 757 and 767. 6 Beginning in 1996, Jet Aviation Basel also began outfitting Dassault Falcon aircraft. Subsequently, a designated Dassault Falcon completions line was established, and in 2009 the 100 th VIP cabin interior was delivered. Dassault Falcon 2000 and 900 series as well as the new Dassault Falcon 7X aircraft are outfitted with state-of-the-art onboard systems as well as high-class interiors exceeding the customer’s design expectations. We continually keep abreast of changes in aircraft construction that affect the completions process. We also offer completions for the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350 aircraft, both of which will contain a significantly higher percentage of composites than current airliners. Our extensive in-house capabilities include highest quality standards and long standing relationships with suppliers, having cultivated close contacts with speciality companies around the world for over three decades. In order to achieve that level of customization and quality, we do much of the work by hand. In our upholstery shop, for example, the leather on seats, cabinets and sidewalls is usually sewn and glued by hand. You can choose all the details, down to the stitching in the seams. Our cabinetry shop creates lightweight furniture that is as functional as it is beautiful. Our staff has been trained in the fine arts of woodworking, and has the advanced skills to do work such as bending veneer around corners and making complex designs with it. 8 These shops are supported by our metal shop, which produces structural elements such as brackets and hinges to help us create the customized details for your cabin. The shop can also make specialty fixtures and decorative items, as well as plate surfaces with gold or other metals. Our electrical shop sets up the wiring and electronics in your aircraft, placing outlets and ports where you want them and making it possible for you to have sophisticated navigation, communications and entertainment systems. The department’s broad experience with advanced systems and its ability to work closely with other production shops ensures that your systems will be installed in a reliable, efficient way, allowing you to maximize space and convenience. At Jet Aviation Basel, you get exactly what you want. We can even build a full-scale mock-up of your cabin to give you a feel for the layout. We will provide you with quality that is only possible thanks to our wide range of specialists and their extensive experience working with each other to create luxury in aircraft interiors. 9 Refurbishment Adapting your cabin to your current style We refurbish an aircraft that requires anything from a minor touchup to a major refinishing. The fact that we can take care of all your needs in-house reduces your downtime. We cover the whole process of refurbishment, from interior design through installation to certification. We integrate changes into your existing cabin in a harmonious way, or create an entirely new layout for your aircraft. Our design and engineering departments can plan structural changes, and our avionics teams can advise you on the latest developments and regulations and then install your chosen systems. 10 Whether you are interested in making smaller changes such as reupholstering seats, adding LED lighting or upgrading an onboard office, or you want to change the entire layout of your aircraft, we ensure that the results are what you had in mind. Jet Aviation has a reputation for meeting client wishes and creating the design and space that clients want. We have the skills and knowledge to exceed your expectations and can meet even the most detailed requests. Painting Giving your aircraft shine and protection Many of Jet Aviation’s outfitting or refurbishment projects require exterior painting as an integral part of the performance. We therefore incorporated this line of business more than three decades ago and have perfected our skills continuously. At Jet Aviation Basel, all paint work is VIP quality. We give your aircraft the same level of quality as the automotive premium found on luxury cars. We can do complicated airbrush work, and with the use of printed film we can put logos, photos and illustrations on your aircraft. Let us give your aircraft the look you want and protect it from corrosion. We keep your downtime as short as possible, while providing gloss, depth and exact color. We can paint aircraft up to the size of the Boeing 737-800 and the Airbus A320 aircraft on-site, and we supervise the painting of larger aircraft at an external location. Our design department works with you to develop the look you want, which can include very elaborate designs that require detailed craftsmanship. 11 Maintenance The most thorough knowledge in the business Jet Aviation Basel performs the full range of maintenance activities including D-Checks; major modification and alteration of airframes; and upgrades of cockpit and cabin electronic systems. We do maintenance on all current models and the majority of out-of-production models of Gulfstream, Bombardier, Dassault Falcon, Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Our hangars can accommodate aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 747. 12 Our technicians receive the best available training, followed by special type ratings by aircraft manufacturers or leading global training centers. Our maintenance engineers are in direct contact with all OEMs and work with them to develop and improve service bulletins. We also host OEM workshops in our hangars that are attended by MROs from around the world. Whether you are having a “green” aircraft completed or simply upgrading elements of an existing interior, our engineers find the most efficient way for our production teams to implement your designs. In case of structural damage to your entire aircraft fuselage, our mechanical engineering department also has the capability to design repairs for metal or composite structures by using design philosophy in keeping with the aircraft manufactur’s latest data and specifications. 14 Our avionics team is always aware of technological advances in the avionics industry, as well as changes in requirements set by aviation authorities. Clients count on us to keep them up to date and prepared for customized solutions to all their avionics needs. Our avionics engineers plan the integration of avionics systems as well as the wiring that provides you with outlets and ports where you want them. Instrument Shop I Emergency Equipment Shop Precision care for essential devices We have the expertise and tools to reliably test and repair a wide range of business jet instruments. Our instrument shop is one of the very few in Europe that is qualified to provide these services. Our specialties include aircraft instruments class I, II, III and IV, air data systems, EGPWS computers, Universal flight management systems, and the testing, downloading and analysis of flight/cockpit voice recorders, especially L3Com and Honeywell. Additionally, the Department of Transportation requires that the cylinders be hydrostatically tested every five years. The cylinder inspection and testing is just one aspect of the thorough check the life raft receives in our shop. We also service survival equipment with just one thing in mind – saving your life. We also have a survival equipment shop dedicated to making sure that your equipment functions perfectly when you need it most and we are specialists in the testing and repair of life rafts. One of the most important aspects of such a check is the bottle that is the heart of the inflation system. If the cylinder is either underweight or overweight, servicing is mandatory. 15 Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Taking a closer look at your aircraft Our non-destructive testing (NDT) services will help you identify and analyze problems with your aircraft before they put you in danger. NDT inspections are used in regular maintenance scheduled inspections and in the diagnosis of unexpected situations. Our department includes experts who have been at the forefront of establishing legislation on NDT protocols for Switzerland. Our staff is always aware of the newest developments in NDT technology and regulations. We perform extensive services here at our Basel location and at other Jet Aviation facilities, and we also do the testing on site. We apply x-ray testing, ultrasound testing, eddy current testing, penetrant testing, and magnetic particle testing. We also employ the newest phased array technology. We have the specific equipment, calibration standards and training to inspect all aircraft that are currently flying. 16 Engine Shop Expert care for an essential component Our engine shop is staffed by experienced professionals who do base maintenance for Honeywell and General Electric engines, as well as line maintenance for Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce and other engines found on the aircraft we maintain.
