A Glassman Christmas returns to benefit the Hunterdon Art Museum
A Glassman Christmas returns to benefit the
Hunterdon Art Museum
Karolee Glassman of Clinton Township will open her “decked-out-for-the-holidays”
three-story home at 14 Cobblestone Lane in Annandale to the public on two
Sundays, December 6 and 13, from 2 to 8 p.m. Admission is by donation only and
will benefit the Hunterdon Art Museum. Guests will enjoy a holiday home tour and
receive a complimentary visitor’s pass to the Museum.
Packed with animated and lighted holiday villages; decorated trees; and collections
of snowmen, Santas, angels, and more, Mrs. Glassman’s Christmas home tour has
been delighting both the young and young at heart for approximately 15 years. But
her holiday spirit goes beyond the many decorations throughout her home. Each
year Mrs. Glassman’s Christmas spirit touches a different charity. This year donations
collected will support the not-for-profit Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton. All
proceeds will benefit the Museum’s exhibitions and educational programs.
Preparation, however, for the two-day event takes careful planning. Long before the
first snowflake falls, Mrs. Glassman begins the colossal but beloved decorating
process and continues until room after room from floor to ceiling showcase her vast
holiday collection, all of which reflect her passion for the season. “My father’s love for
Christmas,” said Mrs. Glassman, “inspired my own love for the holidays.”
A member of the Garden State Village Collectors Club, Mrs. Glassman’s expansive
porcelain holiday village displays are a highlight of the tour. See the city streets in
the elegant Christmas in the City Village, experience all four seasons in a New
England Village, and imagine strolling Main Street USA in a Snow Village and visiting
Santa Claus at the North Pole. Mrs. Glassman also exhibits a Nativity and town of
Bethlehem display.
The tour will also feature 12 full-size Christmas trees, each with a different ornament
theme: Lladro, Lenox, Swarovski crystal, White House, Krinkles collectibles,
gingerbread, dolls, peppermint candy, and Santas. A Patriotic red, white, and blue
tree ends the tour. And two of her 12 trees are uniquely suspended upside down.
And, one of the many attractions on the third floor is a large-scale doll house which
also gets dressed up for the holidays.
The children (and adults) will enjoy Karolee’s treasure hunt which changes from year
to year. Children are given a list of objects which can be found in the villages and
trees. Every child collects a prize at the end of the tour whether they find all the
objects or not. There is also a room where children are encouraged to touch the
many musical snowmen and Disney characters displayed. A magical Disney-themed
tree completes this room.
