The carers look after people like family members and friends who need help to care for themselves. Orlando had some questions for Nicholas; -Have you got any pets? Nicholas is just about to get a new Pomeranian puppy and he showed us a picture on his mobile. -What is your favourite food? He loves Asian food -What do you like doing at home when you’re not playing the piano? He says he loves cooking and before he was a piano player he was going to be a chef. He loves eating and going out for meals with friends. He also likes watching films. - What is your favourite children’s film? Finding Nemo -What did you like playing when you were a child, and what were your favourite toys? We also met with Sheila and are working on extending her muddy boot walking programme. See the ‘Walk this way’ page in this newsletter for further information. We continue to feed back ideas to the coordinators from members for trips and outings. We have agreed to represent Allsorts at the new series of Gloucestershire Parent Carer Forums. We are also organising the next bucket shake at Sainsbury’s, Dudbrige on Friday 13th June. Please come along if you can and help us raise money for Allsorts. Rachel has given us a good overview of the many different methods of evaluation that Allsorts needs to undertake to satisfy our funders that we really respond to what our members want and we are working with the coordinators on some of them. She has also kept us informed of some of the links Allsorts has with other organisations, especially the Mobiloo. The Mobiloo is a revolutionary new vehicle which has a toilet, changing bed and hoist that will be available for hire by individuals or organisations for use at any event or day out (it’s expected to be on the road in a couple of months). See Page 18 for more information. With an electric hoist and changing table as well as a toilet and wash-basin, the Mobiloo means that even those wheelchair-users with the most complex requirements can get out and about to enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else. The Mobiloo is based in the middle of the county, just south of the Air Balloon roundabout (A417) and a few miles south of Birdlip – about 15 minutes from Junction 11A of the M5. This means they are well placed to get it to anywhere in Gloucestershire – or, if you selfdrive, it is accessible from all over the county. Sound it Out! Workshops Allsorts’ music & communication ‘Sound it out!’ workshops are very popular. They are held from 1pm until 3.30pm at The Exchange, Brick Row, Stroud, GL5 1DF on Saturdays 3rd May, 26th July. The fun workshop is a communication & musical interaction group session with Gary from Reachin’ Thru Music and is open to any age child of any ability. Lots of fun, stories, music for all tastes & ages and singing (& dancing should the mood take you!) Refreshments are provided and it’s all FREE to Allsorts members. We would love to see you. Please contact Nikki on 07582 378422 or at nikki@allsortsglos. org.uk for more details. 18 Allsorts have been involved in the planning and development of the vehicle and are looking forward to using it soon. A helping hand... If the cost of a trip is stopping you from booking then please get in touch, or indicate this on the booking form as we may be able to help. There will be extra Allsorts’ staff available to help with your children on most trips & events. However, if the trip is for families, parents & carers will be responsible for their own children at all times. If you have any specific needs then please indicate this on the booking form or let us know and we will contact you. If you have any questions regarding the outings Contact Julie Hills or Nikki Michael on 07582 378422 or email [email protected] Transport for trips Sometimes we provide transport for trips from designated pick up points and this will be indicated in the trip description. Payment for transport should be made in advance with your booking & will be non-refundable. If you have problems with transport then please let us know as we may be able to arrange lift shares or suggest other means of transport.
