hanks for joining us to celebrate eight incredible decades in Atlanta!
The 80th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival has been known as the
city’s official welcome to spring since its inception in 1936. For
this notable anniversary, we’ve crafted an exceptional celebration
with 80s music, mimosas, a barbecue tasting, rides, fireworks and balloons… hot
air balloons, that is! It all takes place amid hundreds of fine artist booths, stages
with live music and international performances, a high school art competition and
plenty of additional artistic offerings. We’re thrilled that you decided to kick off
your spring with friends and family at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

be rockin’ with tunes from Electric Avenue and Members Only. With big hair
and plenty of flair, Members Only will hit the stage from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Featuring
male and female vocalists, Members Only covers a wide range of 80s pop hits like
Huey Lewis & the News, Peter Gabriel and Pat Benatar. From 8:45 to 10:45 p.m.,
festival visitors will go back in time with Electric Avenue, an authentic 80s Pop
Tribute band, offering a high-definition snapshot of an era when synthesizers and
drum machines were at the top of the food chain. Electric Avenue delivers spot-on
renditions of Tears for Fears, Level 42, Naked Eyes, Soft Cell, Simple Minds, Duran
Duran, Wham! and more!

footprint, we focus on sustainable operations like requiring food vendors to use
only recyclable and compostable serving ware and the use of bio-diesel and/or
bio-fuel for all generators at the event. Since the inception of the Green Festival
Initiative, we’ve been able to divert nearly a ton of trash from landfills and have
educated hundreds of thousands of attendees about how to take home eco-friendly
practices and make them part of daily life.

Each year, the AHSAE offers young artists an opportunity to compete, exhibit their
work and earn prizes such as scholarships and art supplies. This “must see” festival
event is a juried competition drawing upwards of 700 entries each year from which the
best 150 works comprise the festival exhibition.
Established in the early 1970s, the AHSAE recognizes and encourages the fine quality of
art created by the area’s high school students. Welcoming entries from high school art
students from 14 regional Atlanta counties, the competition offers awards worth more
than $40,000 and fills a growing gap in creative opportunities for youth. For 2016, the
Atlanta Dogwood Festival has once again sponsored the People’s Choice Award.
Be sure to visit the Atlanta High School Art Exhibition in the Community Center near
the 12th Street Entrance to get a look at the variety and breadth of Atlanta’s young
artistic talent.
Don’t miss the Art Throwdown
This exciting, live interscholastic art competition begins

2016 Cultural Alliance Partners
Each year, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival connects with some of the city’s most vibrant arts organizations and welcomes them as
Cultural Alliance Partners. You’ll find these organizations onsite offering creative hands-on activities and demos all weekend.
Georgia Department of

Museum of Design Atlanta
museumofdesign.org
Lead Cultural Alliance Partner, the Museum
of Design Atlanta (MODA), will be onsite
during festival weekend hosting the popular
Chair Hack, a competition allowing teams
to turn IKEA chair parts into anything
but chairs. With a belief that “design
changes everything,” MODA is the only museum in the Southeast
devoted exclusively to the study and celebration of all things design.
MODA advances the understanding and appreciation of design as
the convergence of creativity and functionality through exhibitions,
education and programming for visitors of all ages. MODA envisions
a world that celebrates design as a creative force that inspires change,
transforms lives and makes the world a better place.

Smart Glass Jewelry

Pre-registered teams spend
the afternoon designing
IKEA chair parts into
anything but a chair! This
event gets zanier every
year. Judging and awards
take place from 4 to 5 p.m.
Smart Glass Jewelry offers onsite jewelry
making demos throughout festival weekend. The organization was
founded by designer Kathleen Plate who started selling to small
boutiques in the 1990s. Commissioned by Coca-Cola in 2006 to create a
line of jewelry with Coke bottles, Smart Glass has achieved commercial
success while remaining true to the values of craft and recycling.
