PARC JEAN-DRAPEAU
Parc Jean-Drapeau has one of the most beautiful outdoor aquatic complexes in Canada. The former training venue for the
swimming events at the 1976 Olympics, it was completely renovated to accommodate the 2005 FINA Championships.
Today, the Complex has three pools: the fastest competition swimming pool in Canada, a diving pool, and a recreational
gradual-slope pool with a cushioned rubber mat for young children. Dating from 1976, the Olympic Basin welcomes
rowing, canoeing, and dragon boat sports groups in addition to hosting high-level championships and competitions.
The Olympic Basin is over 2.2 km long, 110 m wide and 2.5 m deep. With its calm waters and facilities unique to North
America, the Basin is much admired by rowing sports enthusiasts.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, measuring 4.361 km, is home not only to the Formula 1 vehicles of the Canadian Grand Prix,
but also to fans of biking, rollerblading, jogging and walking! Parc Jean-Drapeau remains the busiest park in Montréal for
more than one reason: 25 km of bike paths and walking trails, a beach where you can rent watercrafts and play volleyball,
two museums, the La Ronde amusement park, outdoor public artworks and the Casino de Montréal.

AN URBAN
OASIS
Montréal is not just a cosmopolitan city; it’s an island, with
the majestic Mount Royal dominating its vibrant downtown.
Year-round, the mountain is the destination of choice for
walkers, joggers, cyclists, skaters and cross-country skiers,
while water enthusiasts enjoy rafting and jet boating only
minutes from the city centre.
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
MONTRÉAL
AT A GLANCE
With more than 1,000 parks and green spaces and 500 kilometres (310 miles) of bike paths— the
longest cyclable trail in North America—the city makes it easy for business travellers to relax and
reconnect with nature. The Old Port offers a 2.5-km-long (1.6-mile) recreational and tourist park
and the Montréal Botanical Garden is a 75-hectare (180-acre) oasis just minutes from downtown.
Crowning the urban landscape is Mount Royal Park, planned by Frederick Law Olmsted, designer
of New York’s Central Park.

total of 80 golf courses, many of which are top-rated, are located within a 160-kilometre (100-mile)
radius of the city.
MONTRÉAL WAS VOTED NUMBER ONE

GETAWAYS
MONTRÉAL
AT A GLANCE
Whether enjoying the Laurentians’ world-class resorts, slopes and parks, soaking up Montérégie’s
bucolic beauty or touring the Eastern Townships’s excellent vineyards, there’s something for
everyone a short distance from the city. And the breathtaking sites and splendour of historic
Québec City and Ottawa, the nation’s capital, simply can’t be missed.
LAURENTIANS
Meet Montréal, a destination that deftly combines joie de vivre
For fine dining and simple relaxation on fabulous natural surroundings, the Laurentians are about
an hour’s drive from Montréal. Featuring world-class resorts and parks-including the famous
Mont-Tremblant four-season resort-here you’ll find plenty of water sports, challenging golf courts,
mountain biking, rock climbing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and fantastic downhill and crosscountry skiing.
and business savvy, French and English cultures as well as a
fascinating history and a truly forward-thinking vision.
MONTÉRÉGIE
A short hop south across the river, the Montérégie region is a treasure trove of inviting attractions.
Explore the Richelieu Valley, visit Chambly’s famous microbrewery, or enjoy a picnic among the
apple orchards on tranquil Mont Saint-Hilaire. Close by, Parc Safari is a great way to spend an
afternoon.
EASTERN TOWNSHIPS
Head south from Montréal and you’ll find yourself in the picturesque Townships region, well known
for its bed-and-breakfast inns and gourmet cuisine. Tour vineyards and sample homemade wines,
jams and syrups; then visit the Orford Arts Center for a summer concert under the stars.
QUÉBEC CITY
Just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Montréal, Québec City lives up to its UNESCO World Heritage
Site designation. Located on a spectacular bluff overlooking the St. Lawrence River, the streets
and buildings of Cap Diamant, Québec City’s historic quarter, and Place Royale recount the history
of New France. Inside the city’s old walls, the aroma of fresh bread, croissants and coffee waft
through the narrow streets–an irresistible atmosphere of Old Europe is so pervasive that you’ll find
it hard to believe that you’re still in North America.
OTTAWA
Ottawa, the nation’s capital, is only two hours from Montréal and home to the Canadian Parliament
and federal institutions. The city will astound you with its imposing government buildings towering
above the Ottawa River–especially the magnificent Library of Parliament and its superb Gothic
Revival architecture. Each spring, the city welcomes visitors from around the world for the
Canadian Tulip Festival, the largest in the world, with the breathtaking beauty of millions tulips
abloom throughout the Capital Region. Ottawa is bursting with grand museums and beautifully
designed parks along or close to the historic Rideau Canal which runs through the city center.
During the lively Winterlude Festival, the Canal is crowded with skaters gliding along the world’s
longest skating rink.
