VISIT TO THE WINERY CAVAS DE VILARNAU, Vilafranca del Penedés. PENEDÈS, one of the oldest regions in production of wines and worldwide famous “CAVA” sparkling wines, (catalonian champagne,”métode champenoise”), is where a sensorial experience begins. The darkness of the caves, only interrupted by the intense aroma of oak and sulfur, and squeezed grape and mildew, warns us of a mystery. Elegance and know-how is the best gift for the best cavas. Vilarnau noble family settled in S. XII in this privileged land of Penedés, where the vineyard then cultivated. Albert Vilarnau, a name that currently receives its most exclusive champagne brand, was a very singular character who grew the power of the family and even in the fourteenth century was one of the patrons of the Church of Santa Maria de Vilarnau. The first cava labeled Vilarnau, was produced in 1949. In 1982 became part of the family of prestigious wineries Gonzalez Byass group. Today, Vilarnau crosses borders with the intention to let know its noble history and excellent cavas. “We cultivate 20 hectares with all the love and care that we can. Next to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, bases for the development of our cellars, we have plantations of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada and Trepat “. The grape harvest, fully manual, begins in mid-August and ends in the last days of September. Our experience in Cavas de Vilarnau, begins with a tour and tasting, ending with lunch among the vineyards. Hotel Gran Claustre. Altafulla. (Tarragona) DAY 5. VISIT TO THE CELLAR OF FERRER BOBET, Priorat. The Priorat, the great discovery of the black soil of slate and rised to the altars by Robert Parker, welcomes us with all its splendor. Land of hills that hides in its entrails the most vertiginous buildings of the wineries. Tradition and modernity come together to make their best table red wines. Through valleys and mountains covered with vineyards, Priorat is of one of the most worldwide recognized Spanish table red wines. The winery FERRER BOBET works like a ship wedged between vines, an object resting his precarious balance in the untamed landscape of this hidden corner of Priorat, in Catalonia. Winemaking: “Our enology is born of the conviction that only a respectful viticulture and fruit retailer allows to obtain the highest quality. We started winemaking with basquets vintage of 10 kilograms, and continue with a strict selection grain by grain using a double selection table. “ “To date we have used centenarian vines Carignan and Grenache from privileged vineyards that enjoy all these qualities” • Visit and walk among the vineyards, followed by tasting in the winery spectacular building with breathtaking views. • Lunch at “La Cooperativa de Porreras”, typical and excellent food of the region. Then we head on to “La Torre del Visco” a boutique Relais & Chateaux hotel, built on the ruins of an ancient XV century farmhouse located in La Portellada, a hidden paradise setting between mountains and valleys in the limits of Catalonia and Aragon. Hotel Torre del Visco. (Relais & Chateaux) DAY 6. VISIT TO THE OIL MILL MAS DE FLANDÍ. CALACEITE (Teruel, Aragón) A few kilometers from the Hotel La Torre del Visco, we will live an unexpected experience. The world of the OLIVE OIL: “THE QUALITY STARTS IN THE OLIVE TREE” In 2005, Eduard Susanna identified Mas de Flandí as an exceptional terroir and convinced his wife, Pilar, to invest in this olive farm and create an olive oil mill.
