Carefully read over the 2014 Recreation Handbook, especially the swim, tennis, bingo and movie schedules. NOTE: For your convenience there is a drop off zone in the cul de sac for access to Lodge Lake. The gate is open Wednesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting June 28th. A Gate Monitor will check you in, providing fees do not have to be paid. Remember to show your Member Card and Photo ID. Activities:

Mission Statement
Our goal is to provide a quality, safe and fun summer recreation program. The staff prides itself in serving the membership in a positive and friendly manner. We want our members, guests and children to leave Blue Lake Springs saying, “This was the best summer vacation ever!”

BLSHA Membership Rules and Fee Schedule
Please review the following rules and fee schedule;; remember there is a fee to replace all lost or damaged membership or guest cards. Everyone must check in at the Recreation Office window, and those 14 years and older must wear a daily wristband. Your member card along with photo ID must always be shown before using any of the facilities;; this includes Fly-in Lake. Membership:
In accordance with the By-laws, Membership Card (s) and one Guest Card are issued per lot. Please remember to keep your cards in a safe place. Membership privileges extend only to immediate family, a member’s spouse and dependent offspring. Members with Guests:
A membership is entitled to bring six guests to the facility without charge. The member may bring additional guests for a fee of $4.00 per person. The member must accompany their guests to the facilities.
Family Season Card:
For an annual fee of $90 (which is in addition to the annual Homeowner’s assessment), a member may purchase a Family Season Card that will allow the member's family to use the facilities. Corporations that own property are not eligible. Eligible family members are: parents, grandparents, non-dependent children, and grandchildren of the member. The member does not have to accompany the family member to the facility and need not sign-in such persons. However, an adult must always accompany children under the age of 14.
The Family Season Card is effective from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2014. Cards must be purchased prior to using the facilities and the member is required to provide the names of the eligible family members expected to use the card. Family members are required to show identification as this ID will be checked against the family members listed on the card before being allowed entry into the facilities. Additionally, a Family Member Cardholder may bring guests. Guest fees apply to everyone over the age of two years old.

Members may leave their Guest Card in their home for non-owner usage. Guests must show the BLSHA Guest Card along with photo ID at the Recreation Office window. Possessing the Guest Card and photo ID entitles the holder to purchase a card for daily or weekly entry. The fees are based on a family unit, which includes a couple and their dependent children. BLSHA Renter Rules and Fee Schedule (Cont’d)
Renter (possesses verification card from realtor) A renter is an individual or single family who has contracted a Blue Lake Springs home from a rental agency or Homeowner. The renters are entitled to use the Blue Lake Springs facilities provided they show the Blue Lake Springs Renters Guest Card with name, lot and unit numbers, along with photo ID. This card allows them entry after the daily or weekly fee has been paid. Weekly passes are from noon of purchase date until noon of the seventh day. All renters must check in at the Recreation Office. The fees are based on a family unit, which includes a couple and their dependent children. Each additional family staying in the rental home must purchase their own pass.

Group Rates:
Rates are now available for member-sponsored groups. For those who wish to accompany a group such as an organization, church or school group, the fee is $5 per person. Advance registration and approval must be obtained from the General Manager.
Note: All check-in procedures and payment of fees always apply to Fly-in Lake;; fees must be paid before using the Fly-in Lake facility. Fees are accepted at the Recreation Office.

Classes start Tuesday, June 24
1. Only BLS members and guests may sign up for lessons.

6. 3 Sessions, 10 a.m.,10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Swim Lessons, Tuesday through Friday.
7. Lake safety begins in July and is for advanced students. (A swim proficiency test may be administered)
Children under the age of four and students needing further stroke refinement would benefit most from private lessons. Private lessons are offered Tuesday—Friday at 9:30 a.m. and cost $25 for a half hour. Call 795-4009 to schedule an appointment.
Please note: Once payment is received by the Recreation Office, the child is confirmed into the class. You may only sign up for one week at a time. A student will be dropped if the fee has not been paid prior to the class start. A second week of lessons may be scheduled;; however, you must check on Friday for the following week. If the class is not full you may sign up your child.
All parents and grandparents are to remain outside the pool enclosure during lesson time. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Kid Activities
Story Time for Preschoolers is daily for ages 2-6. We meet by the flagpole at 3:30 p.m.
Crafts are on Saturdays. Children 4 years old (with parents help) to 12 years old. The cost is $1— $2. Teen crafts are offered by request.
Inner Tube Water Polo is on Wed. Fri. and Sat. at 5 p.m. For safety, the pool must be cleared of all swimmers and toddlers. Sign up at the Recreation Office.
Activity Time 2 p.m. is for kids 6 and up. We learn about nature, draw, take a hike or play games. Sign up at the Recreation Office.
Bingo starts at 7:30 p.m., except on dining nights when we begin at 7 p.m. Check the calendar for times and dates. On theme nights, earn a free card when you participate in the theme.
Movie Night is a real staple of the BLS lineup. You won’t want to miss out on not only seeing a movie, but shooting stars and an occasional raccoon. Check the calendar for the start time and on page 8 for the movie titles.
Camps (sign ups required)
Basketball Camp for boys and girls starts July 1. Sign ups are required. Join the fun and learn basic basketball techniques. Camp is $55. The sign up form is found at the back of the recreation handbook.
Tennis Camps are offered throughout the summer. For more information see page 13. The sign up form is found at the back of the recreation handbook. Fees vary. Running Camp is offered Monday, July 28;; Tuesday, July 29;; Thursday, July 31;; and Friday, August 1. The sign up form is at the back of the book. Camp is $40. Classes (sign ups required)
Swim Lessons: Group and Private lessons are offered beginning Tuesday, June 24. Sign ups are required. The form is in the back of the book. For more detailed information see page 23.
Jr. Lifeguard Class: We are offering two sessions for ages 11-15. Students learn basic life-­
guarding skills, are introduced to CPR, First Aid and rescue techniques;; along with leadership skills. The sign up form is at the back of the book.
NOTE: All fee based camps and classes require a signed release of liability form on file. Final class/camp schedule will depend upon total registrations. In some cases a class may be canceled, consolidated or otherwise modified. Each class/camp has a minimum/maximum number of participants.

As a reminder, fishing in Lodge Lake is limited to children 16 and under. Fishing is not permitted until after the derby on July 4. The daily fishing limit is six. After the derby you may fish from dawn to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. until dusk. Please no fishing in the roped off areas and off the docks.

BLS Homeowners’ Association Recreation Rules
In order to enhance your overall experience at Blue Lake Springs, we have developed the following list of rules for your safety. Members and guests must always be in possession of their Blue Lake Springs identifi-­
cation card in order to use the facilities, this includes Fly-in Lake. Membership cards, along with photo ID, must be shown upon request. All those 14 years and older must wear a daily wristband. Members abusing the guest fee schedule may lose guest privileges. We respectfully ask you to abide by these rules.
Use of the entire Blue Lake Springs facility is a privilege and management has the right to deny access due to inappropriate behavior. Profanity is not tolerated and is grounds for immediate ejection from the facility.
The California State Health and Safety Code requires that an adult at least 18 years old must accompany children unable to swim and children under 14 years of age.
Parents are responsible for the behavior and safety of their children at all times (even when there is pool or lake personnel on duty).
Glass containers of any kind are not allowed on the Blue Lake Springs premises, this includes Lodge Lake and Fly-In Lake.
No smoking on any of the BLS facility;; this includes both Lodge Lake and Fly-In Lake.
While in the pool area, consume all food and drinks either on the grass area or wooden deck.
Proper swimming attire is required;; no cutoffs. Swimmers must shower prior to entering the pool.
“Wake” boards are not permitted in the pool. Also, when it has been determined that there is an unsafe swimming condition, the lifeguard may restrict the size of floating devices..
No running, pushing, diving or horseplay is allowed in or around the pool. No swinging on any of the safety rails, this includes the pool safety rail.
It is mandatory that infants and children who are not completely potty trained wear tight fitting swim pants in the pool or lakes.
All musical devices must be used with ear buds. No animals are allowed in the Lodge area, pool or lake areas except authorized ADA service dogs.
Bicycles, skates, roller blades, skateboards, or scooters are not permitted on any of the Blue Lake Springs property, this includes the Fly-in Lake property. Equipment such as the aforementioned may be confiscated if used.
Tennis shoes are required on the tennis courts. Absolutely no black soled shoes or bare feet.
Any ball playing needs to be played on the appropriate court. Football or soccer may be played on the grass by the lower tennis courts.
For safety we request the water’s edge to remain clear of large floating devices. Small rings and other swim aids for non-swimmers are permitted.
The grounds and facility close at 10 p.m. unless there is a scheduled event. The lakes close at dusk.
Paddleboards, hard-body kayaks, over 3-person boats and oversized floating toys are not allowed at Lodge Lake;; however such items are permitted at Fly-in Lake.
All pop up tents, umbrellas, chairs and floating devices must be removed from the beach area at the end of each day. A storage area is available next to the lower tennis courts.

Playground Rules
The equipment manufacturer has designed this equipment for children nine years and under. Hours are 8 a.m. until dusk. Closed on all movie nights.
For safety, all children must be supervised by an adult.
Shoes must be worn at all times.
Standing on the swings or on the playhouse roof is not permitted. No walking or running on the slide.
Food or drinks are not allowed in the playground area.
Equipment use is a privilege;; management reserves the right to stop usage when rules are not obeyed.
Lodge Lake and Fly-in Lake Rules Tents are limited to 8 feet by 8 feet and must be 20 feet back from the water’s edge. Beach chairs and floating devices must be properly chained at the designated area at Lodge Lake. Absolutely no pop up tents left overnight. Any items left in the non-designated location will be removed.

Tennis court reservations are first come first serve, in person, or by phone, 795-4009. Reservations are accepted one day in advance. Reservations begin on the hour;; doubles two hours;; singles one hour. When there is a time conflict please see the Recreation Director. Court 1, 2, 3

To prepare for cross country and track, join high school coach and former All American collegiate runner Vicky Bray-Johnson for fun, stretching and drills. A “learning and training” approach to running will be utilized. Athletes will learn various training methods and drills used by mid-distance, distance and cross country runners.
