In the four years Crazy Coqs has been
open, it gained many accolades and much
recognition for bringing ‘classical cabaret’
back to London, in a glamorous setting unlike
any other in the capital. Such has been the
appetite for live performance in this very
intimate venue that we felt it was now time
to broaden our horizons to encompass the
entire building and showcase a wider range
of talent.
I am excited to share with you the new Live
At Zédel programme, curated alongside Alex
Fane and United Agents, which kicks off this
September. It presents a unique combination
of all forms of live entertainment in one
extraordinary building, including music,
theatre, comedy and literary events.

INTRODUCING...
We are extremely excited to welcome him to Live at
Zédel as Artistic Director In Residence for our Autumn
season.
“When I was asked to join the Crazy Coqs family as
Artistic Director in Residence I was immediately filled
with endless possibilities on how to bring a diverse
audience to this intimate, timeless and incredible space.
My first phone call was to Associate Editor of The Stage,
Mark Shenton, whose monumental interviews with the
West Ends elite have become a true highlight of my own
visits to the London theatre scene. His program, ‘Coqtails and Conversations’ is sure to be a weekly, pre-show
ritual that offers our audience a one of a kind, intimate
and in-depth look at their favorite theatre and television
actors and performers.
Then, to have two of West Ends reigning stars such as
Julie Atherton (Avenue Q) and Simon Lipkin (Rock of
Ages) join us for “our version” of an open mic night is sure
to close out the week on a high note. Julie, Simon and
I are working closely on creating a unique experience
for both the up-and-coming and the established to rub
elbows, sing a song (or two) and bring a party to the
Crazy Coqs. ‘West End Coqs’ is sure to become the
official meet up place for all those who love the theatre.
Being given this opportunity to create a diverse program
with Live At Zédel has been incredibly rewarding, truly
invaluable and one that I take very seriously. I look
forward to continuing our work on offering a place that
feels like home for both the audience and the performers
joining us night after night.”

The Kansas Smitty’s House Band have been quietly (or depending on where you’ve
been spending your evenings, not so quietly) carving out a name for themselves as one
of the driving forces in the London jazz scene. Their reputation, built on their incendiary
live shows, including two sold out main shows at Ronnie Scott’s, has recently been
cemented by the release of their full debut album and the opening of their own bar

ARIANE BARNES
DOUBLE TROUBLE
DIVA (SOLO SHOW)
The first in a series of pieces from the Different Women Project,
celebrating diversity and difference.
A Northern-Irish woman and an Israeli woman walk into a bar
in London. They write, perform and sing of the places they
came from and the places they still want to go to.
From the joys of Lewisham cab drivers to the trials and
tribulations of being a so-called modern woman, Diva takes an
uncompromisingly honest and humorous look at the reality of
being a woman today.
One grew up during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. The other
grew up during the second Intifada in Israel. When the first
was a child she had to look under every car for bombs. When
the second was a child she couldn’t go on buses. Somehow, at
the age of 20-something, their paths have crossed.
With singing and thrashing.
Sorry, ‘movement’...’
Ariane is an actor-singer, writer and comedian. The Different
Women Project focuses on women that don’t quite fit the
standard mould - be it in performance, personality or cultural
terms and brings these delightful ‘differences’ to the world
through humour and performance.
Two witty and moving monologues intertwining into one
thought-provoking story about childhood, womanhood and
growing up in a war-struck country. A fusion of middle-Eastern
music and Celtic music, of different memories yet shared
experiences. How do we rise above the traumas that shaped
us as children?

canon of songs from the legendary pen of Joni Mitchell. In
partnership with young pianist, composer, MD and Crazy
Coqs regular, Jamie Safiruddin (Will Young, Ian Shaw, Claire
Martin, Barb Jungr) Alice will reimagine the settings of
many of Joni’s well-known hits (‘Big Yellow Taxi’, ‘A Case of

throughout her long and fruitful back-catalogue. The pair are
superbly accompanied by two fast-rising stars of the UK jazz
scene: Will Glaser (drums) and Conor Chaplin (double bass)
and will also feature the stellar virtuoso soprano saxophone
of Matthew Herd. This is a new and exciting collaboration not

This band brings together two of the best and most enigmatic
players of the clarinet and, in broader terms, performers
of jazz music in general. It also serves as a bridge between
cultures, with Giacomo hailing from up-state New York, and
Adrian from the jewel of the south coast, Brighton. The band
will play a mash up of genres across the musical canon taking
in New Orleans, Kansas City and Paris backed by a thumping
rhythm section. It’s a seated show but nobody’s going to make

HAILEY TUCK
Born in Austin, Texas, and now based between London and
Paris, Hailey Tuck was raised on a diet of 1930’s jazz, vintage
dresses and black & white movies. Her love of the ‘old school’
saw her move to France aged just 18 in search of ‘la vie en rose’.
Dressed straight out of an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, with a
uniquely captivating voice that sits somewhere between Billie
Holiday, Regina Spektor and Ella Fitzgerald, Hailey enchants
her audience with classics such as ‘My Funny Valentine’, but
also surprises with her unique take on tracks like The Zombies’
‘Tell Him No’, Bob Dylan’s ‘Don’t Think Twice’ and ‘Sunday
Morning’ by Maroon 5 – the latter a nod to her sister’s longtime rock-star boyfriend James Valentine.
Since her debut EP release in April 2014 Hailey has performed
over 40 shows around Europe and Asia including sell outs
at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Juu Jaab Festival and Umea
Jazz Festival. Her sold out 4 shows at the legendary Duc Des
Lombards in Paris was featured live on national radio station
TSF and in the UK, she has had airplay on BBC Radio 2 and on
BBC 6 Music, primarily by Cerys Matthews. She also supported
Jamie Cullum at his Parisian album launch performance at the
legendary theatre La Cigale.
Hailey made her New York debut at Joe’s Pub in January
2015 which was announced first by a feature with Interview
Magazine and followed by features including Entertainment
Weekly and People Magazine. She was named as one of
Yahoo! Music’s “25 Singer-Songwriters Under 25 to Watch”
and returned to her native Austin for the 2015 SXSW Festival.

This duo have each been compared to an impressive array
of musical geniuses including Janice Joplin and Tom
Waits (vocally) as well as Jimi Hendrix (instrumentally) – a
comparison Antonio wears with pride. Django Reinhardt also
comes to mind. In truth, Sarah Jane and Antonio are great
artists in their own right. Channelling their energies together,
they share audiences in Italy, Britain, and all over the world.
Together they increase their spheres of appreciation, giving
loyal fans the chance to experience favourites afresh, as well
as attracting new audiences with the strength and artistry of
their unique partnership.
Sarah Jane’s and Antonio’s set touches heights of great musical
beauty both in Antonio’s unique virtuoso guitar playing and
Sarah Jane’s legendary voice, now more subtle and persuasive
than ever, with range and power undiminished. The whole is a

BARB JUNGR
& JOHN M CDANIEL
In an exciting new collaboration between two giants of cabaret
from both sides of the Atlantic, extraordinary, award-winning
vocalist and performer Barb Jungr and Grammy and Emmy
winner John McDaniel investigate The Beatles song catalogue
in their own unique and inimitable fashion.
Barb and John celebrate Paul, John, George and Ringo with
brand new, and often unexpected arrangements.
John, the go-to arranger and Music Director for some of the
greatest stars of the Broadway, television and cabaret worlds,
is also the Artistic Director of the O’Neill Theatre Centre’s
Cabaret Conference, and has been the arranger and music
director for eight Broadway musicals. Jungr has re-invented
British and European cabaret and coined the phrase “New
American Songbook” to describe her extensive and acclaimed
explorations of Dylan, Cohen, Brel and more. Her CDs on
Linn Records, Naim Label, and Kristalyn have been released
internationally to great reviews.
Here she turns her eagle eye to her own backyard, and The
Beatles. John’s love of their repertoire attracted Barb’s attention
when he invited her to be Master Teacher at the O’Neill, and
there, they created a Beatles medley together for the Gala
Performance. As huge fans of each other’s work, and with their
mutual love of these great songs, John’s superb arrangements,
Jungr’s

scene, Shaw is also a talented pianist and songwriter. Twice voted ‘Best Jazz Vocalist’
at the BBC Jazz Awards and with more than a dozen albums to his name, he is much
in demand as the featured soloist with big bands and orchestras both in the UK and
internationally, as well as pairing with the likes of Guy Barker, Liane Carroll and Claire
Martin. His current album ‘The Theory Of Joy’ (Jazz Village, Harmonia Mundi) has
received consistently glowing reviews from the press and audience alike.
CLAIRE MARTIN & IAN SHAW
To the exquisite jewel that is Crazy Coqs, these two BBC award winners and leading jazz singers bring their hugely popular
annual seasonal offering for two exclusive performances. A show packed with winter warmers and classic songs from both the
Jazz and pop canon, expect 1930s New York, 1940s Xmas cinema evergreens, the gloss of Fifties Hollywood (Nat Cole, Doris Day,
Eartha Kitt), the celebrated 1960s Brill Building (Carol King, James Taylor) to the darker spirits of the more contemporary writers
(The Pogues, Nick Cave, Joni Mitchell).
Claire and Ian are also both celebrated radio broadcasters (BBC and JazzFM) and their easy anecdotal stagecraft makes for an
often hilarious, yet moving experience of great music. They have both toured the world in an array of musical formats, from their
individual work with their own smaller ensembles, to performing with some of the most celebrated orchestras of the world. In
these exclusive London concerts however, it is their 20 year duo format that makes this such a unique and intimate show.

THE HAMILTONS

Sibling duo Emma (vocals/piano/accordion) and Tom (vocals/piano/guitar) aka ‘The
Hamiltons’ come from an eclectic background. Their father, a musician himself, and
their Parisian mother, live in Sydney where the band The Hamiltons started to evolve.
As children they travelled throughout Australia performing with their father’s
quintessential Irish-folk band, simultaneously bingeing on jazz standards and their
idols Brian Wilson and The Everly Brothers.... an unusual education that has yielded a
refreshing, personal and ultimately nostalgic sound.
Fast forward to 2012 and a young Emma released her debut album ‘La Musique’ (on
ABC/UNIVERSAL), a jazz album which explored their bilingual heritage with a rich
mixture of French jazz classics and original music. The album, produced by brother
Tom, was highly acclaimed in Australia to be “a total triumph on so many levels”. It led
to an international support slot opening for Australian virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel.
The pair set off on the road with the guitar master, performing throughout Europe
and Russia. So, from Emma Hamilton’s solo album and via the subsequent touring
together, The Hamiltons were born!
From touring Europe one thing led to another and Tom and Emma relocated to
London in Jan 2015 where they evolved the band into a 5 piece, adding tuba, guitar
and drums. Having sold out the St James’s Studio they are currently working with
producer/mixer Adrian Hall (DuBlonde/Black Eyed Peas/Simply Red) on their debut
album.
Debut single ‘Paranoid’ was released late August 2015 on Home on the Range Records
and features Tommy Emmanuel on guitar.
