Live At Zedel
SEPTEMBER DE C E M B E R 2 0 1 6 In the four years Crazy Coqs has been open, it gained many accolades and much recognition for bringing ‘classical cabaret’ back to London, in a glamorous setting unlike any other in the capital. Such has been the appetite for live performance in this very intimate venue that we felt it was now time to broaden our horizons to encompass the entire building and showcase a wider range of talent. I am excited to share with you the new Live At Zédel programme, curated alongside Alex Fane and United Agents, which kicks off this September. It presents a unique combination of all forms of live entertainment in one extraordinary building, including music, theatre, comedy and literary events. I hope you will find much that tempts you in these pages. JEREMY KING /LiveAtZedel INTRODUCING... We are extremely excited to welcome him to Live at Zédel as Artistic Director In Residence for our Autumn season. “When I was asked to join the Crazy Coqs family as Artistic Director in Residence I was immediately filled with endless possibilities on how to bring a diverse audience to this intimate, timeless and incredible space. My first phone call was to Associate Editor of The Stage, Mark Shenton, whose monumental interviews with the West Ends elite have become a true highlight of my own visits to the London theatre scene. His program, ‘Coqtails and Conversations’ is sure to be a weekly, pre-show ritual that offers our audience a one of a kind, intimate and in-depth look at their favorite theatre and television actors and performers. Then, to have two of West Ends reigning stars such as Julie Atherton (Avenue Q) and Simon Lipkin (Rock of Ages) join us for “our version” of an open mic night is sure to close out the week on a high note. Julie, Simon and I are working closely on creating a unique experience for both the up-and-coming and the established to rub elbows, sing a song (or two) and bring a party to the Crazy Coqs. ‘West End Coqs’ is sure to become the official meet up place for all those who love the theatre. Being given this opportunity to create a diverse program with Live At Zédel has been incredibly rewarding, truly invaluable and one that I take very seriously. I look forward to continuing our work on offering a place that feels like home for both the audience and the performers joining us night after night.” BOOK TICKETS ONLINE | WWW.LIVEATZEDEL.COM BOOK TICKETS ONLINE | WWW.LIVEATZEDEL.COM Scott Alan is an internationally acclaimed songwriter who has worked with some of the brightest stars of theatre, TV, film and recording. A Northern-Irish woman and an Israeli woman walk into a bar in London. They write, perform and sing of the places they came from and the places they still want to go to. From the joys of Lewisham cab drivers to the trials and tribulations of being a so-called modern woman, Diva takes an uncompromisingly honest and humorous look at the reality of being a woman today. One grew up during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. The other grew up during the second Intifada in Israel. When the first was a child she had to look under every car for bombs. When the second was a child she couldn’t go on buses. Somehow, at the age of 20-something, their paths have crossed. With singing and thrashing. Sorry, ‘movement’...’ Ariane is an actor-singer, writer and comedian. The Different Women Project focuses on women that don’t quite fit the standard mould - be it in performance, personality or cultural terms and brings these delightful ‘differences’ to the world through humour and performance. Two witty and moving monologues intertwining into one thought-provoking story about childhood, womanhood and growing up in a war-struck country. Their father, a musician himself, and their Parisian mother, live in Sydney where the band The Hamiltons started to evolve. As children they travelled throughout Australia performing with their father’s quintessential Irish-folk band, simultaneously bingeing on jazz standards and their idols Brian Wilson and The Everly Brothers.... an unusual education that has yielded a refreshing, personal and ultimately nostalgic sound. Fast forward to 2012 and a young Emma released her debut album ‘La Musique’ (on ABC/UNIVERSAL), a jazz album which explored their bilingual heritage with a rich mixture of French jazz classics and original music. The album, produced by brother Tom, was highly acclaimed in Australia to be “a total triumph on so many levels”. It led to an international support slot opening for Australian virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel. The pair set off on the road with the guitar master, performing throughout Europe and Russia. So, from Emma Hamilton’s solo album and via the subsequent touring together, The Hamiltons were born! From touring Europe one thing led to another and Tom and Emma relocated to London in Jan 2015 where they evolved the band into a 5 piece, adding tuba, guitar and drums. Having sold out the St James’s Studio they are currently working with producer/mixer Adrian Hall (DuBlonde/Black Eyed Peas/Simply Red) on their debut album. Debut single ‘Paranoid’ was released late August 2015 on Home on the Range Records and features Tommy Emmanuel on guitar.
