RULES & REGULATIONS
All races part of the PSCS will be sanctioned by USA Cycling and subject to the
governing rules in the USA Cycling rulebook. USA Cycling officials will be
responsible for all start/finishes, rulings, and determining end
results and scoring. For further explanation of race rules and regulations, please
go to www.usacycling.org .
Race Types:
Criterium Race
A Criterium or Crit race will be held on a short course consisting of racers riding
laps (ranging from approximately 0.5 mile - 1.3 mile) until the specified time limit
or total distance is reached. The first rider across the finish line on the finishing
lap (without being lapped by the field) will be declared the winner. In case of the
PSCS all crit races will be run on a time limit. i.e. 60 minutes plus 5 laps.
1. There will be no hand-ups, or feeding during a crit race.
2. Free laps - for legitimate mechanical reasons approved by the race officials,
free laps may be awarded during the race up to 8km remaining in the race. All free
lap rules are subject to the discretion of the presiding officials.
Road Race (with special provisions for Pro Men’s race in Willow Springs, IL)
A Road Race or circuit race will be held on a longer open road course varying in
length. The race could consist of one lap of a larger distance or multiple laps of a
smaller distance. The first rider across the finish line will be determined the
winner. All of the road races in PSCS will be run on a distance limit.
1. Neutral support by SRAM, who may be permitted onto the finish criterium
at the discretion of the Chief Referee. No free laps on main course.
2. The road race will be conducted according to the rule of the road and
accordingly the centerline will be enforced.
3. Caravan or follow cars will not be permitted to follow the race.
4. Feeding will be allowed at top of hill near 95th Street; no neutral feeding.
Pro Men finish circuit:
5. Riders who fall back and who are considered out of contention will not be
allowed on the finish circuit and their places will be taken at the gate.
6. On finish circuit, free laps may be awarded for legitimate mishaps during
the race up to 8km remaining in the race.
7. On the finish circuit, lap times will be averaged and turned into laps.
8. Lapped riders and riders about to be lapped must yield to the faster group
and may not intermix with riders on different laps.
9. Other rules of the course will be explained by the race officials.
