Serving in Huanta (January 2014)
JIMMY & NADIA SERVING IN HUANTA 1/26/2014 TO OUR DEAR CHURCH, FAMILY AND FRIENDS As many of you know that we are in Peru and we have been accepted to be new members of PEF (Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship). This happened right before we left United States. About a week after we’ve arrived to Peru, we got the news that we have been accepted as members of PEF . You can always catch up with the latest on projects and learn more about PEF at the PEF website, so please take a minute and check it out: http://pefministry.org/Site/Dukes.html . Right before we returned to Lima, we received a letter from the church that we will be working with in Huanta. The pastor at the church was asking if we could raise some support to help give the children in the church something for Christmas. We did not have much time to work on it since we were preparing to leave the country. When we arrived in Lima, we remembered about a gift that we received from a very nice couple from the church. We talked about it and decided to send the money the pastor to buy gifts for the children. He was so excited about the money and sent pictures of Christmas party for the children. It is so wonderful to know that God provides in times on need and He uses people like you to make this possible. The reason what we are still in Lima, Peru and not in Huanta is because we are trying to complete the process to get Jimmy’s residency card, something that we were told it would take about 10 days. After a month we are still waiting and were told again that it may take another 20 days. We cannot wait until we get on the airplane to go to Huanta. Please pray for us so this process can be done as soon as possible. We also have to correct documents for our newest family member, Sara. Two of our girls have already their dual citizenship but Sara doesn’t because on her birth certificate was missing one of my last names (Peruvian names). We have contacted the Secretary of State of Alabama and they are sending a corrected birth certificate, but that process isn’t as hard as Jimmy’s residency card. 1/26/2014 We ask you all to please pray for our health because since we got here Jimmy has had Strep throat three times, the girls and Nadia two times and Sara once. We also are having some problems trying to adjust to the food (this is Nadia and Jimmy because the girls are doing great for God’s grace). About 2 months ago we got in touch with Mr. Mario who is the Latin American Ministry Development Director of CHF (Children Hunger Funds) in the international area and he confirmed that whenever we have the funds ready for the transport of the shipment he will be filling and shipping a 40 foot container with food and some toys. We were blessed by God who sent 10,000 dollars thru a dear friend for the transportation of this container. We let CHF know about this and we are officially starting the process for the shipping of the container. Please make a special prayer for all the shipping processes and that the money to be enough to cover all the expenses. This will include the shipping the container from the USA to the Callao port in Lima Peru. Then we need get the container out of the port consecutively shipping it from Lima to Huanta. What it is great about this container is that we got in touch with a Christian Organization in Peru (ACED) who constantly receives containers from out of the country and they know almost everything about the process. God touched the heart of the director when we went to talk to her. She found out that we were sent to her by Pastor Amezquita, someone who she loves very much and so does everyone who works with her. She didn’t consider it much and agreed to help us. Praise Our Lord for that!!! We can’t wait to get to container here and get everything ready for the school’s students to be able to have a meal every day and for them to know that Our Precious God is a great provider and He is always watching over His little ones. We were invited by ACED, a Christian organization in Peru, to participate in a training to learn about how to share the message of Salvation to the Children. The cost for every participant was 40 soles (this is about 16 dollars). Unfortunately we were not able to participate but we were blessed by being able to pay the inscription of 6 Sunday school teachers. For each teacher that participated will receive 20 gift boxes that are being giving by the Franklyn Graham Ministry. Jimmy and I have learned about this ministry thru ACED, when we went to ask for help with the container. We immediately contacted the church pastor to see if they were aware about this program. The pastor didn’t know anything about it, but we were able to get the 6 teachers registered just in time. The children have to complete 12 classes about “The Gospel of Jesus” in order to receive their gift boxes. Even thou we were unable to attend we were very excited to be a part of this ministry. 1/26/2014 Another thing we want to share with you is that about 4 weeks ago we were invited to participate of a camp at the beach. I know it sounds a little crazy going to a camp with 3 little ones, but we accepted the invitation and we are grateful we did. From the beginning they took care of our transportation, meals, a place to stay and they made sure we were comfortable all the time. The camp was for 4 days and we were able to be with them 2 of those days, the theme of this camp was to share the Gospel with the youth in a dynamic way. They had all kind of activities to keep all the young people (from 11 to 18 years old) entertained; they played, laughed, competed, ate, danced, and heard about the Gospel in a really fun way. The reason we are sharing this with you is that we want to have this type of camp in Huanta soon. We had some conversations with the director of Young Life (name of the organization) and also with the coordinator who has became a good friend of ours along with his wife and 2 kids. To participate in this camp there is a cost, as you can imagine, and it could host around 200 campers. We are looking for sponsorship for some or maybe most of the campers because not many can afford that in Huanta. Please pray diligently for this, if it is the Lord’s will for this to happen and also have enough funds to help many who want to participate. There are still other things we need to do but those will be more possible to do when we get to Huanta. We are ready to go there and even thou we know there will be hard times we know our Lord is watching and lifting our hearts with wonderful things that are happening in our lives. Please keep us in your prayers as many of you have been doing. We definitely feel your prayers - like when we were rushing Isabela to the hospital because she fell and hurt her ear. She was bleeding outside and inside. In the car we prayed so hard for The Lord’s will and for keeping us strong in whatever happened to our little girl. When we got there the doctor checked on her and there was not any internal damage, it was just a little cut on her skin. We praise the Lord for that blessing!! If you feel in your heart to support our ministry thru prayers please do it and, if financially, do so by going to this link http://pefministry.org/Site/Dukes.html . We are looking for a monthly support or a onetime gift. We gratefully appreciate all your support and God bless you abundantly. We are attaching some pictures from our family since we arrived in Lima. Note: if you would like to send us an email our new email address is: [email protected] Proverbs 22:9 He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor. 1/26/2014 Jimmy and Nadia SERVING IN HUANTA This is at the airport (sorry we don’t have a better picture) 1/26/2014 CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE CHURCH’S CHILDREN 1/26/2014 YOUNG LIFE CAMP 1/26/2014 1/26/2014 On this picture, this guy is talking about the Gospel and showing them that this garbage represent our sin 1/26/2014 SOME RANDOM PICTURES 1/26/2014
