Partnering with God in Changing Lives
MESSENGER Partnering with God in Changing Lives Vol. 78 n No. 6 n December-January-February 2015-16 | kempsvillebaptist.com 2 | A WORD FROM THE PASTOR Thank You Church Family I want to express my heart-felt thanks to each of you who prayed for me and Brenda during my eight week sabbatical! We took this time of much needed rest and relaxation to travel and for me to spend more time studying God’s Word. We appreciate the cards and coveted your prayers. I especially want to express my deepest appreciation to our staff: Bro. Ken Carlton, Bro. Tim Zittle, Bro. Andrew Knollenberg and the Ministry Assistants for taking on extra duties in serving the congregation of Kempsville Baptist Church. I also want to express thanks to those men who covered the pulpit in my absence: Rev. Rodney Morrison, Rev. John Williams, Rev. Derek Futrell, Rev. Dave Pryor, Rev. Russell Fail, Rev. Reggie Hester, Rev. Tim Zittle and Dr. Brian Autry. God is so good, and I’m so grateful for God’s provisions. Lottie Moon Christmas Offering: What is It? churches send missionaries to the billions who have yet to hear through every penny given to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. We must go to those we can! “What is a Lottie Moon Christmas Offering?” I’m glad you asked that question. Lottie Moon was a Southern Baptist Missionary to China. Her life was such a witness and inspiration that Southern Baptists have named their world mission offering in her honor. Lottie Moon was born right here in Virginia. She was later buried in Crew, Virginia. This year’s theme for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is: Because of who He is and because you give, IMB helps Pray! KBC Week of Prayer for International Missions is December 6–13. Praying provides the spiritual means, empowering missionaries to proclaim the Gospel. Let me call on our entire church to pray for missionaries, for needs on the mission fields, and for the lost to be saved. Pray with a conviction and desire to give for missions. Ask God to guide you and your family to give the amount that will please Him. Give! How can the Gospel be told to those who have yet to hear except that the church provides the resources for our mission efforts? Giving provides the financial means for those who go. KBC has set a giving goal of $40,000 for our 2015 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. We will have our Ingathering Offering Sunday, December 13, during the morning worship service. We can surpass our goal if there is total participation of our membership. I encourage every person to be prepared to give something toward the offering. Let us determine to give beyond the goal this year. We will be receiving the offering throughout the months of December and January. The needs are greater than ever! He is Lord! Pastor Kelly P.S. Two Christmas Musicals: Letting Your Light Shine & Come and Behold Him Andrew Knollenberg Worship Leader & Students Ministry Christmas is right around the corner, and we have some exciting musical events coming your way! On December 6, at 6:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary, our Music and Missions Children’s choir will present their Christmas musical, Letting Your Light Shine. Children will share four songs: Away in a Manger, Silent Night, Shout to the Lord, and a song called I’ll Shine. The message these children will be delivering to us is—we are to let our light shine before others. This message is necessary for all of us to hear today. We truly live in a dark world, and God has called us to be salt and light to shine in this world. Allow this message to resonate deep in your heart as we listen to what the children have to share. The following week, December 13, at 6:00 p.m., our Celebration Adult Choir will be sharing the Christmas musical, Come and Behold Him. You will have the opportunity to hear familiar Christmas songs such as: Joy to the World, O Come All Ye Faithful, Angels From The Realms of Glory, and many more. You will also hear some new songs as well as hymns such as, Immortal, Invisible. Every song has a deep, but clear message for us. You will hear about angels, and how they are everywhere in the Christmas story. They appear one at a time, and also in great numbers. They will share about the name Immanuel, and what the idea of that name means for us today. They will sing about obedience to God, and how we respond to him in obedience. Every song is a song with a message of hope and love. Come and behold Him! Soli Deo Gloria | STUDENTS APEX Student Ministry Since the beginning of Fall, our middle and high school students have been going through the book of Genesis in our Explore the Bible curriculum. They have been learning everything from creation, to the Tower of Babel, to Abraham’s name change, to Sodom and Gomorrah, etc. This exciting journey through the book of Genesis will be finishing up on December 6. We are continuing our Wednesday night and Sunday night programs. Andrew Knollenberg Student Minister Check us out online: Facebook: KBCAPEX Website: kempsvillebaptist.com Wednesday nights are times of discipleship, where our students break off into their respective small groups by age.
