Flat Bed
Die Cutting
3
Flat bed die cutting
Preco’s flat bed die cutting systems are the most productive
and accurate presses on the market. The Preco press is a
hydraulically actuated 4-post design with press tonnage from
20 to 100 tons. Preco’s range of presses start with cutting
areas of 12″x 12″ (305 mm x 305 mm) and extend to 42″x
44″ (1065 mm x 1115 mm). The exclusive micrometer ram
adjustment produces a repeatable die stroke for kiss-cutting
or through cutting your material. All Preco presses include
an innovative quick change tooling design that allows you to
rapidly change tooling with minimal downtime. Additionally,
this press can be used with both steel rule dies and also
matched metal die sets.
Innovative Solutions
Preco manufactures a complete line of automated die cutting systems. One of our standard systems
may be the answer for your application, or let our engineers configure a total in-line automated solution
for maximum productivity.
Automated flat bed die cutting
The standard Preco press can be configured with
a wide range of accessories to greatly improve
your operation’s functionality and productivity.
Incoming material can be sheet fed or roll fed
using features from a selection of Preco rewind
stands, lamination stations or sheet feeders.
Preco’s versatile part knockout stations are
designed to automatically remove production
parts from the material matrix, reducing manpower requirements.
Using matrix rewind stations, tandem stripping
stations or standard/shingling conveyors, the
back end of the press may be designed for sheet,
roll, or individual production part collection.
Automated optical systems
For applications that require a precise die cut in reference to preprinted production parts, Preco offers two
powerful solutions: CCD vision technology and fiber optic registration. Both methods advance preprinted
fiducials into the optic fields, adjusting material progression and Preco’s innovative floating bolster to cut
your preprinted production part perfectly in X, X/Y, and X/Y/Theta registration.

Whether you are a contract converter requiring
a system with fast setup and flexible configuration or a manufacturer requiring an engineered
solution for your specific rotary converting
needs, Preco has a solution. Preco can guide
you to the correct configuration by offering a
complete range of rotary die cutting equipment.
Time Tested
With over 50 years in the die-cutting industry, Preco is the leading manufacturer of standard and custom
automated die cutting equipment.
Rotary Converting Platform
(RCP™) for high productivity
The RCP product range was designed with the contract converter in mind. Responding to a multitude
of new and existing contract production programs
require flexibility for unique web paths and converting stations. This flexibility, coupled with rapid
changeover features and reduced “make-ready”
time, means dramatic productivity improvements
and more money going to your bottom line.
If you require a rotary system for a specific product
or application, the RCP can be configured to meet
your specification. Preco’s engineering staff will work
closely with you to develop the necessary processes
for each station on the system in order to minimize
risk and provide a robust production system.
RCP with laser stations
Preco is the technology leader when integrating a laser station to a rotary web system. The drive toward
smaller and more complex parts can quickly exceed the capabilities of dies. Therefore, alternative approaches need to be considered. The use of hybrid techniques such as rotary die cutting and laser cutting
can greatly improve productivity for difficult to convert applications.

Packaging
7
Laser-placed enhancements for flexible packaging
Preco is a leader in the use of industrial lasers
to modify and enhance flexible packaging films.
As the market for convenient easy-open, breathable, and microwave vent features continues to
grow, Preco has expanded its technology and
processes to meet the demands of this market. By
offering laser systems and contract manufacturing
services, Preco supports your needs by providing
high quality, cost-effective flexible packaging
solutions.
Customer Convenience
As the flexible packaging market continues to evolve, consumer’s expectations for package convenience and product freshness are key drivers that influence package design innovation.
Preco’s AcuTear® laser scoring technology
provides easy open, flexible packaging features
resulting in high consumer satisfaction while maintaining package strength and barrier properties.
Laser scoring can be straight line or contoured to
provide access to zipper and peel/reseal closure
features.
AcuBreathe®, or laser micro-perforating, is a
process of placing a series of small diameter holes
allowing for modified atmosphere packaging that
extends the shelf life of fresh-cut produce. Laser
micro-perforating can provide burst protection for
high altitude transportation. It can also reduce
package fill times and stack height as entrapped
air in the package has a means to escape.
AcuVent® is used to create controlled depth laser
score segments at high processing speeds. These
laser scored segments (or vents) burst when the
package is placed into a microwave. The steam
generated during the cooking process bursts the
vents, automatically ventilating the package for a
perfect microwaved product.
Our Web Direction and Cross Web series of laser
systems provide scoring, cutting or micro-
perforating of films at web speeds over 450 meters/minute (1500 feet/minute). The systems can
be designed and integrated to existing production
lines with web widths up to 2 meters (80 inches)
providing the ultimate flexibility while minimizing
costs. To expand our capabilities, Preco also
offers individual FlashLite™ laser modules that
can be populated across a new or existing web
handling system. The FlashLite offers a compact
size, unparalleled flexibility and is available with a
variety of options to meet your requirements.
For process development of your application,
market test studies, initial product roll-out and
even long term production, Preco offers contract
manufacturing services using our in-house Web
Direction and Cross Web systems. We can handle
web widths up to 1250 mm (50 inches), while
processing your materials in a clean environment.
The contract manufacturing services group is ISO
9001 and ISO 13485 certified, assuring you that
your films are being processed to an internationally recognized standard.

Unmatched Expertise
Preco, Inc. has been a leading innovator of metal laser processing technologies and systems for more
than 30 years.
Preco specializes in systems for cutting round, flat
or contoured parts that are fabricated or machined.
Offering a range of standard or engineered system
configurations, we are well suited to build a system
that will meet your specifications. Our expertise of
systems is matched by our expertise in the following processes:
Laser Cladding
Preco supports many laser cladding technologies
including coaxial and off-axis powder deposition.
Laser cladding offers numerous advantages over
competing techniques. This process can be used
for new part manufacturing, remanufacturing
worn or damaged surfaces, and applying wear or
corrosion resistant surfaces.
Laser Heat Treating
This surface modification process is designed to
change the microstructure of the metal through
controlled heating and cooling of the selected
part surface. This process is self-quenching and
localized so only select surfaces are heat treated.
Laser heat treating often eliminates the need for
secondary operations.
Laser Welding
Most materials commonly welded by other
processes can be readily laser welded. Laser
welding offers high speeds with minimal heat input
and distortion. Difficult to join or incompatible
materials can also be successfully laser welded.
Supplementing our strong process knowledge with
standard laser welding, Preco’s technical staff
is also well versed in hybrid laser welding. This
includes induction pre-heat and post-heat of the
part along with cold and hot wire feed technology.
During the process development phase, our
technical staff can also assist with fixture and weld
joint design to provide a robust process window.
Laser Specialty Cutting
Preco focuses on specialty laser cutting that
falls outside the realm of standard laser cutting
systems and materials. Our applications engineers
can develop processes for unique materials and
cut profiles and then select a laser, optical path,
and motion system that will best suit your specific
requirements.
12
Close
Tolerance
Screen Printing
Our strength is precision
For demanding technical screen printing
applications, Preco’s MTS Series screen
printers stand out. We offer a number of
design features not available with other screen
printers that set our press at the forefront of
precision screen printing. The MTS printer
offers a unique vision registration system that
will locate a pre-punched or printed fiducial
when the material has indexed into the screen
print station. Upon acquisition of the fiducial
by the vision system, the screen is adjusted in
x, y, and ө and the print cycle initiates with the
screen in precise orientation to the fiducial.
Preco also takes an additional step to make
sure the printing platen flatness is the best in
the industry. All MTS Series platens are 50 mm
(2.0 inches) thick solid steel and are precision
ground across the platen face to assure an
overall flatness of 25 µm. The flatness of the
platen is critical in controlling the uniformity
of ink thickness to assure consistency in the
screen print process.
13
Matched to your requirements
The MTS Series is available in print widths from 100 mm (4.0 inches) to 700 mm (27.5 inches) and
can be supplied to process material in roll or sheet
formats. If required, engineered systems can also be
designed and built to meet your specific requirements.
These screen printers can be found in a demanding range of applications for manufacturers
of bio-sensors, disposable medical devices, printed
electronics, displays, photo-voltaic and flexible circuit
devices, among others. As the required accuracy for
the printed device increases, the value of the MTS
Series screen printer from Preco is realized.
