This month we have once again set up an
interesting newsletter to share with you
the various developments within our
company and our participation in sport events.
We have indeed been very busy: on
the 16th of August we have the opening of Carifesta XI and as official Carifesta
Carrier we are honored and ready to
accommodate the visitors to our country.

Futsal tournament was a great success
The Surinam Airways International Futsal tournament
from July 29th until August 2nd was a great
success. The Dare 2 Challenge-tournament became a
competition to be proud of. From the moment
Visit from Boeing
On July 10th, Jakob Funkenstein, Regional
Director Marketing Commercial Airplanes,
visited Surinam Airways. Mr. Funkenstein
informed Surinam Airways Management
about the possibilities for fleet renewal and
expansion on the Mid-Atlantic and regional
routes. It is important for the Management
Team to have a broad scope of aircraft
manufacturers. Currently, three Boeing 737/300
aircraft are part of Surinam Airways fleet.
During the next visit of the Boeing
manufacturer other stakeholders in the aviation
sector will be invited. Similar arrangement was
made in May this year for manufacturer Airbus.
the preparations started it became clear that the
public would be in for a treat. The players from
Suriname in the groups Styx, The Kuldipsingh Group
and FC International lost the tournament,
but that didn’t keep them from leaving a
memorable impression on the teams from the
Netherlands and Curacao. We did not expect that
the competition would be such a great success.
Each day spectators of all ages were at the Anthony
Nesty Sporthal to support their favorite group.
The combination of top entertainment and exciting
futsal masterpieces has made the Surinam
Airways International Futsal Tournament the best
sports event of the year.
Mother’s Day campaign succeeded
Inspection by IATA
From May 20 until 24, IATA conducted the IOSA
Audit at Surinam Airways. During this execution
no substantial nonconformities were found.
Nonconformities are procedures that do not
meet
IATA
standards.
Therefore,
it’s
expected that the IOSA registration of
the SLM will be extended with two more
years until October 19th, 2015.
Goudenregen has landed
On May 31st, the Goudenregen arrived
with registration PZ-TCQ in Suriname.
Goudenregen (golden rain) is the beautiful
name that has been given to the third SLM
B737-300 on July the 7th. On July the 7th,
the third SLM B737/300 was christened
Goudenregen by pastor Steven Reyme.
The vice-president of Suriname Robert
Ameerali revealed the new name. Gouden
Regen will operate scheduled flights as
well as charters and tours.
Maureen Wells’, Yvonne Hasselhoef’s and
Vivian Veira’s mothers can now travel to their
favorite Surinam Airways destination and it is all
thanks to their daughters’ kind and inspiring words.
A few days before Mother’s Day, Surinam Airways
started a Facebook campaign where participants
could win tickets for their mom. They needed to post
a poem, an expression of love or a wish for their
mom on SLM’s Facebook wall. The next step was to
convince as many friends as possible to like their post.
The 15 expressions with the most likes were
than judged by a commission on creativity and
originality, after which 3 winners were chosen.
Looking at the numbers a lot of people
participated in the campaign and therefore
it gets the remark ‘successful’.
Walking & running event
A healthy lifestyle requires adding sports to your
routine. Surinam Airways applauds a healthy
lifestyle and also motivates others. The readers
are therefore invited to take part in our walking &
running event on Saturday the 31th of August.
We will start at 5 in the afternoon and will leave from
the SLM Headquarters at the J. Lachmonstreet 136.
We will run and walk for 5 kilometers. Half an hour
prior to the start we will have some musical warm up.
For registration you are welcome on Friday 23rd,
Saturday 24th, Monday 26th until Friday 30th
from nine in the morning to three in the
afternoon; and on Saturday 24th from ten in the
morning to two in de afternoon at the Public
Relations Department situated in our Headquarter
as well. The costs are 15 Suriname dollars and you’ll
receive a t-shirt as long as they are in stock. Come
and move with the SLM family and stay healthy.
