2015-16 Membership Guide
U N C G A message from the Athletic Director Fellow Spartans, Our student-athletes and coaches appreciate your financial support of Spartan Athletics through contributions to the Spartan Club. We see the impact each and every day in many ways. Last year we set a new record by raising $400,185 for the Athletic Scholarship Fund. We are also pleased to report that for the second year in a row, 100% of current student-athletes made a gift to the program through the True Spartan Challenge giving campaign. There are not many programs in the country that can boast this statistic. Our students understand the value of giving back. UNCG is experiencing many exciting changes including new leadership from Dr. Frank Gilliam, our new chancellor. He begins his work this fall and our campus is preparing to move boldly into the future. Spartan Athletics will join this team effort. Pictured at left (left to right): Dakarai Shipp ‘17, Emily Kurey ‘17, Amy Ellis ‘16 and Alicia Bazonski ‘18. Your commitment to UNCG Athletics allows our students to continue to achieve at the highest levels competitively, academically and in the community. Be sure to follow our teams this year online at uncgspartans.com. If you’re in the area, join us for a game. You’ll be proud of the women and men who wear the Blue and Gold and live “The Spartan Way” every day. “We discover and develop champions in life.” - The Spartan Way - Fundraising Update $4,000,000 $3,500,000 $3,000,000 $2,500,000 77% $2,000,000 Increase $1,500,000 $1,000,000 $500,000 67% $250,000 Increase 2009-10 2014-15 Athletic Scholarship Fund Cash Raised Athletic Scholarship Expense Thanks to the generosity of the alumni, friends, and family of UNCG Athletics, our Athletic Scholarship Fund has grown significantly over the past five years. We have set an all-time record in each of the past four years, including the 2014-15 total of $400,185. As you can see from the chart on the previous page, our Athletic Scholarship Fund has grown by over $150,000 since 2010. A significant 66% increase, all thanks to our generous donors. But even with these strides, we are still short from being able to fully fund all of our teams to the NCAA maximum allowed scholarship limits. Since 2010, our scholarship expense has increased by more than $1.5 million, and tuition costs continue to rise each year. We must continue to grow our Athletic Scholarship Fund to compete at the highest levels within the Southern Conference and beyond. Your ongoing support will allow us to provide a first-class academic and athletic experience to our student-athletes. UNCG is among a small number of schools across the country that have accomplished this, as Spartan student-athletes made a bold statement about their dedication to UNCG Athletics. The True Spartan Challenge student-athlete giving campaign was developed as a partnership between the Spartan Club and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). 110% Spartans Once again we are offering the 110% Spartans initiative to help the UNCG Spartan Club meet the rising cost of scholarships. The 110% Spartans recognizes Spartan Club members whose 2015-16 Athletic Scholarship Fund gift is at least 10% greater than their 2014-15 Athletic Scholarship Fund gift.
